Daily Baseball Write-Up Series #79 Carter Jensen

It does not usually look this comfortable for a 21-year-old catcher, but Carter Jensen has made the transition look natural at every stop in 2025, including a brief but impressive MLB showing. After controlling Double-A and Triple-A pitching, Jensen reached Kansas City and immediately showed the same patient, all-fields offensive approach that has defined his climb. The production matters, but the consistency of the underlying skills is what truly separates him from most young catchers.

Across the upper minors in 2025, Jensen hit .292/.360/.420 in Double-A and .288/.404/.647 in Triple-A, showing growth in both contact quality and power as the level increased. The Triple-A line stands out in particular, where his .359 ISO and 16.8% walk rate supported a 166 wRC+. When he reached the majors, the sample was small but meaningful. In 20 games and 69 plate appearances, Jensen hit .300/.391/.550 with a .250 ISO and a 159 wRC+. He walked in 13.0% of his plate appearances and struck out just 17.4%, a rare combination for a catcher making his first exposure to big league pitching.

The batted-ball profile supports the results. Jensen has never sold out for pull-side power, and that balance has carried through each level. His line-drive rates remained strong, and the power showed up naturally rather than through a forced launch-angle shift. The plate discipline has stayed intact throughout the climb, with double-digit walk rates and manageable strikeout totals even as the competition improved. That ability to keep his approach stable while scaling levels is one of the strongest indicators that the bat will hold against MLB adjustments.

Defensively, Jensen has long been viewed as bat-first, but Kansas City has found ways to keep him in the lineup while managing the workload. Catcher remains the primary home, supplemented by DH and occasional first base reps to protect the bat. The athleticism is functional rather than flashy, but it allows for steady playing time and keeps his offensive value intact. The brief MLB stint reinforced that his swing decisions and contact quality are already major league caliber, not projection-based.

Fantasy Outlook

Jensen already profiles as a set-and-forget option in two-catcher leagues and a top-10 catcher in one-catcher formats, with legitimate upside into the top five in OBP and Points leagues. The walk rates, contact quality, and power translate cleanly to formats that reward plate discipline, and his MLB showing suggests the transition risk is lower than usual for a young catcher. In standard 5×5, a .270 to .285 average with 20 to 25 home runs and strong RBI totals is a reasonable long-term expectation if he remains entrenched in the middle of the order. The stolen bases are a bonus, not a pillar. In dynasty leagues, this is the type of under-22 catcher you build around; the combination of age, approach, and demonstrated MLB readiness is extremely difficult to find.
