Max Fried – SP Atlanta Braves
The Braves aren't saying anything specific regarding Fried. Just saying, "They're working through things." Dodd or Shuster could start Wed. if this is an IL move. Fried didn't indicate any physical ailments after his last start. But uncertainty about his next start is alarming. https://t.co/7z4Cj5mdCN
— Mark Bowman (@mlbbowman) May 7, 2023
The uncertainty of Fried’s status is something to monitor. There’s no word on what things he is working through. As Bowman said, there weren’t any physical ailments that indicated he was injured following his blowup last start.
Christian Arroyo – 2B Boston Red Sox
Arroyo to the IL with a right hamstring strain. Dalbec is back.
— Ian Browne (@IanMBrowne) May 7, 2023
This should lead the way for Emmanuel Valdez to come in and possibly take the job over.
Brandon Hughes – RP Chicago Cubs
Cubs injury notes:
– Codi Heuer will throw again on Tuesday
– Brandon Hughes throws a bullpen today
– Yan Gomes is doing baseball activities today— Ryan Herrera (@ryan_a_herrera) May 7, 2023
This is an important next step for Hughes as he tried to come back from a knee injury that just won’t go away. We’ll see how that knee responds to this before making any assumptions.
Eloy Jimenez – OF Chicago White Sox
Prior to today’s series finale at Cincinnati, the #WhiteSox placed outfielder Eloy Jiménez on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to May 6) due to an appendectomy and recalled catcher Carlos Pérez from Class AAA Charlotte.
— Chicago White Sox (@whitesox) May 7, 2023
The team waited one day to officially make this move because there was nobody available to join the team on Saturday.
Graham Ashcraft – SP Cincinnati Reds
David Bell explains that pitch count was one of the reasons he decided to pull Graham Ashcraft out as early as he did. pic.twitter.com/NCbFExPq1y
— Bally Sports Cincinnati (@BallySportsCIN) May 7, 2023
It seems as if the combination of too many pitches alongside taking a comebacker both contributed to Ashcraft being taken out of Sunday’s game. Consider him DTD as the manager didn’t seem too concerned over the ailment.
Jake Fraley – OF Cincinnati Reds
David Bell on Jake Fraley (back): "He could’ve played today, probably, but with the off day tomorrow, the three full days of not starting, although he’s going to be available off the bench for sure today. I just wanted to make the most of the time, let everything heal up."
— Charlie Goldsmith (@CharlieG__) May 7, 2023
It looks as though Fraley will be ready to roll on Tuesday.
Aaron Civale – SP Cleveland Guardians
Guardians righty Aaron Civale is on his way to Arizona tonight. He will throw live BP on Tuesday and possibly a sim game by next weekend, per Chris Antonetti.
— Joe Noga (@JoeNogaCLE) May 7, 2023
Civale has been out of action for almost a month and continues to work toward getting better. He will potentially pitch an extended Spring Training too, but all of this depends on how his body responds to the aforementioned BP and sim game.
Jose Altuve – 2B Houston Astros
Dana Brown on @SportsTalk790 when asked when Altuve could begin a rehab: “We’re hopeful it could be within a week or so, maybe, as long as he continues to progress.”
— Brian McTaggart (@brianmctaggart) May 7, 2023
That’s fantastic to hear, but it’s all dependent on how Altuve progresses. That said, he seems to be on track to start this without complications.
Jose Urquidy – SP Houston Astros
Dana Brown on @SportsTalk790 on injured RHP José Urquidy: “There’s a chance we could get him back somewhere around the All-Star break.”
That means Urquidy is out at least a couple of months.
— Brian McTaggart (@brianmctaggart) May 7, 2023
This indicates that the minor swelling that was speculated is significantly more than advertised. Urquidy has struggled to start the year, and he likely will be shut down for a while. With the All-Star Break being an optimistic timeline, the Astros are in desperate need of help and could do so through a trade.
Ryan Yarbrough – SP Kansas City Royals
Matt Quatraro says Ryan Yarbrough is alert and responsive. He went to the hospital to get more testing done.
“It was scary. The dugout was silent. Your heart drops there. Got a pit in your stomach. Luckily, when we got out there, he was talking and aware of what was going on.”
— Anne Rogers (@anne__rogers) May 7, 2023
Good news following a scary incident. The hope is that Yarbrough can get back to 100% health soon, but the team will likely be very cautious.
Kyle Farmer – INF Minnesota Twins
Kyle Farmer's return could be as soon as Tuesday. He still has a procedure set for tomorrow to get some wires taken out of his mouth, but manager Rocco Baldelli said the infielder is "really close."
— Betsy Helfand (@betsyhelfand) May 7, 2023
Fantastic news!
Ranger Suarez – SP Philadelphia Phillies
Phillies wanted Ranger Suárez to get four innings and 65 pitches today at Triple A. He pitched five innings on 48 pitches. The plan is for him to make his season debut sometime next weekend at Coors Field.
— Matt Gelb (@MattGelb) May 7, 2023
Due to his efficiency, Suarez was limited to just 48 pitches over five innings pitched. While it’s a tough debut matchup next week in Colorado, Suarez is someone that should be added in deeper leagues.
Kolten Wong – 2B Seattle Mariners
Kolten Wong said that few a days of treatment and a good tape job and he will be ready to go.
— Ryan Divish (@RyanDivish) May 7, 2023
Wong has struggled to start the year, but he’ll look to get back at it midweek.
Alex Wood – SP San Francisco Giants
Alex Wood goes on his rehab assignment today.
— Susan Slusser (@susanslusser) May 7, 2023
There’s no word on how many appearances Wood will need to make, but one should expect at least two.
Victor Robles – OF Washington Nationals
Davey Martinez says Victor Robles is going on the IL with back spasms and Jake Alu will be joining them in San Francisco tomorrow.
— Mark Zuckerman (@MarkZuckerman) May 7, 2023
Robles injured himself while sliding on Saturday and the decision was made on Sunday to put him on the Injured List. He will miss at least ten days after a solid start to the season.
