Ramon Urias – INF Baltimore Orioles
It’s looking more and more like Urias will be returning before the expected timeline of three weeks missed. While a lot can happen before he’s back on the field, this is a good start.
Nick Lodolo – SP Cincinnati Reds
David Bell said it will probably be a minimum of four weeks before Nick Lodolo (calf) returns.
They’ll have TJ Friedl (oblique) get some work in today. How he feels will shape whether or not he goes on the IL.
— Charlie Goldsmith (@CharlieG__) May 14, 2023
The scheduled examination for Sunday revealed that Lodolo had tendinitis in his calf. The four-week minimum is a tough pill to swallow, given that he’ll have to wait more than a month to turn his season around. There’s a chance that he doesn’t pitch until after the All-Star Break.
C.J. Cron – 1B Colorado Rockies
#Rockies manager Bud Black says 1B C.J. Cron is likely headed to the 15-day injured list because of back spasms #MLB
— Kyle Newman (@KyleNewmanDP) May 14, 2023
Cron will head to the 10-day Injured List (not the mentioned 15) with spasms in his back. He has struggled to start the year and will miss the team’s home stand this week. Stay tuned for information to see if this is more serious than a minimum day designation.
Mike Trout – OF Los Angeles Angels
Angels star Mike Trout with a planned day off, but also sore from being hit on left elbow yesterday.
Also, Anthony Rendon (groin) is out today.
— Tom Withers (@twithersAP) May 14, 2023
Trout did pinch-hit in this game, so maybe there’s nothing to this report. However, if he is dealing with soreness in his elbow, it’s something to monitor and keep in the back of your brain.
Anthony Rendon – 3B Los Angeles Angels
This implies Anthony Rendon will be going to the IL, given that he's missed the last two days.
Livan Soto is coming directly from Double-A. He's spent time in Triple-A and Double-A this year.
He's hitting .170 with with a .560 OPS between the two levels. https://t.co/OrJLVWgemk
— Sam Blum (@SamBlum3) May 15, 2023
Interesting development here. While nothing has been announced, Blum is always on top of everything Angels-related. The team might be wanting to take things slowly with Rendon, given his injury history. Stay tuned.
A.J. Puk – RP Miami Marlins
#Marlins LHP A.J. Puk to the 15-day IL with left elbow nerve irritation
— Christina De Nicola (@CDeNicola13) May 14, 2023
Puk went through what was described as “dead arm” earlier in the week, but now has irritation in his left elbow. It’s unclear as to whether or not this will require more than fifteen days from which to heal, but for now, he will rest.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. – OF Miami Marlins
#Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said Jazz Chisholm will actually see the specialist on Monday not today.
— Andre Fernandez (@FernandezAndreC) May 14, 2023
The visit to the specialist was thought to have been scheduled for Sunday, but will in fact be today. There is no word on the severity of Chisholm’s turf toe, but anything that is not the minimum grade in intensity could require a trip to the Injured List.
Jesus Sanchez – OF Miami Marlins
#Marlins moves
Garrett Cooper reinstated from IL
Jesús Sánchez placed on 10-day IL with right hamstring strain
— Christina De Nicola (@CDeNicola13) May 14, 2023
Sanchez went in and out of the team’s lineup this weekend after recovering from an earlier ailment. He will need at least ten days to get better, but there’s a chance that this is more serious. Stay tuned.
Joey Gallo – OF Minnesota Twins
Rocco said to expect Joey Gallo back in the lineup tomorrow. He was insistent that he could stay in the game, but they didn’t want to push it in a blowout.
— Do-Hyoung Park (@dohyoungpark) May 14, 2023
Gallo hurt himself while running out a base hit. The team is hopeful that he’ll be there on Monday, and the belief is that had the game been closer, he would have remained in the game. Keep an eye out for this when lineups get released later today.
Carlos Rodon – SP New York Yankees
Carlos Rodon threw from 60-75 feet today and yesterday, Boone says #Yankees
— Brendan Kuty 🧟♂️ (@BrendanKutyNJ) May 14, 2023
Rodon has a long way to go before returning, and it’s unclear how he’ll be when he does. Throwing from 60-75 feet shows that he’s back to the beginning stages of his recovery. There has been no word on his chronic back pain other than he’s been cleared to resume baseball activities.
Mason Miller – SP Oakland Athletics
Mason Miller (forearm tightness) is scheduled to fly to Dallas tomorrow and get his second opinion Tuesday, Kotsay said.
— Matt Kawahara (@matthewkawahara) May 14, 2023
We should get more clarity tomorrow, but second opinions usually mean that the first opinion was borderline extreme. That said, anything can happen.
Dylan Carlson – OF St. Louis Cardinals
Dylan Carlson left with a left ankle sprain, according to the Cardinals. His status is day-to-day. #STLCards
— Lynn Worthy (@LWorthySports) May 15, 2023
Carlson should be considered DTD until we hear about the severity of this issue. He did try to play through it, but could not.
Pete Fairbanks – RP Tampa Bay Rays
Reliever Pete Fairbanks is set to rejoin #Rays Tuesday vs. #Mets, but INF Yandy Diaz is headed for an MRI after feeling tightness, a pull and some pain in groin area. Also notes on Littell, Guerra, Chirinos, rest, and a @WFAN660 rebuttal https://t.co/8JNyC1eJrL
— Marc Topkin (@TBTimes_Rays) May 15, 2023
Be prepared.
Yandy Diaz – 3B Tampa Bay Rays
#Rays Diaz said there is some pain in his left groin, which had been bothering him for a few days before he slipped today at 3B. Team is concerned enough that he will get an MRI on Monday
— Marc Topkin (@TBTimes_Rays) May 14, 2023
This has been an ongoing issue for days, and the slippage by Diaz just triggered it. The hope is that the MRI will reveal nothing serious and that Diaz can return soon.
Mitch Garver – UT Texas Rangers
Flurry of #Rangers injury updates, per manager Bruce Bochy:
– Josh Smith (L foot) is "probably not available" after yesterday's HBP
– Travis Jankowski (R hamstring) will miss more than the minimum time
– Mitch Garver (L knee) should start a rehab assignment around May 23— Sonja Chen 陈星雅 (@SonjaMChen) May 14, 2023
Garver has been out of action for quite a while, so seeing a rehab date in mind is encouraging. The assignment will likely be lengthy in order to fully test out his ailing knee.
