ROS Fantasy Baseball Rankings: Seeing Reds

The Cincinnati Reds are quickly becoming one of the more fun teams to watch as the 2023 MLB season progresses. They have allowed some of their top prospects to play in the Majors recently, with mostly positive results. Cincinnati now boasts four first-round picks in their recent starting lineups, all 26 years old or younger. They also have other regulars enjoying breakout campaigns such as Spencer Steer and TJ Friedl. And they have arguably the best prospect in the game in Elly De La Cruz. The Reds called De La Cruz up this week, and he has already flashed glimpses of his incredible potential. Several of these players are also moving up my ROS rankings.

There is some volatility here with some of these players, which is to be expected. I have moved most of the Reds in question up my rankings compared to my last set. However, there is no guarantee their ascent will continue without a hitch. De La Cruz already has a tape-measure home run and a couple of steals under his belt. But he also struck out in over half of his at-bats during his first week in the Bigs. Matt McLain could be threatening for the National League batting title once he is eligible if Luis Arraez didn’t exist. But McLain’s .350 batting average is likely unsustainable considering his 26.6 percent strikeout rate. The upside is immense with many of the Reds’ young stars, but fantasy managers may need to exhibit patience on the way to the promised land.

Having said that, it is certainly a fun time to be a Reds fan, which has not always been the case in recent years. It is also a fun time to be a fantasy manager with any of these players on your roster. I am looking forward to tracking these players as we head towards the summer.
