MLB Injury Report
Sean Murphy – C Atlanta Braves
Murphy is getting a MRI at a local hospital. Snit said they’ll learn more tonight
— Mark Bowman (@mlbbowman) June 17, 2023
There has been no update as of the morning, but a trip to the Injured List is a possibility given the catcher position that he plays. Travis d’Arnaud would receive a big boost if Murphy were to miss time.
Tanner Houck – SP Boston Red Sox
From the Red Sox:
“Tanner Houck was evaluated last night at Mass General Hospital. He suffered a facial fracture but is currently resting at home in stable condition. Follow-up appointments next week will determine next steps and a treatment plan.”
— Gabrielle Starr (@gfstarr1) June 17, 2023
More will be known this week about the status of Houck. Given that we don’t know about it already, it’s fair to expect that his start date will be pushed back a bit. He could also go on the Injured List too. Stay tuned.
Patrick Wisdom – 3B Chicago Cubs
#Cubs Roster Moves:
-Justin Steele activated off the 15-day IL
-Patrick Wisdom placed on 10-day IL with a right wrist sprain— Taylor McGregor (@Taylor_McGregor) June 17, 2023
Wisdom has been awful since the calendar turned into June as he is now hitting under the .200 mark. Nick Madrigal slides into his spot for now.
Tim Anderson – SS Chicago White Sox
Grifol: "Tim, his shoulder got a little sore, I think he did it pregame out there stretching, throwing and he toughed it out for three innings. It's cold out here. He toughed it out and the evaluations were good. He's day to day and we'll see how he wakes up tomorrow.'
— Daryl Van Schouwen (@CST_soxvan) June 18, 2023
There’s a chance that Anderson did this pregame (why would he play then?) or during the game where he slid into second base. Either way, he’s considered DTD until we hear otherwise.
Joey Votto – 1B Cincinnati Reds
Joey Votto will be playing Sunday in Louisville again, sources tell me
— C. Trent Rosecrans (@ctrent) June 18, 2023
Votto has really struggled yet again, as his batting average is now worse than it was in his previous rehab outing. To be fair, he has cut down his strikeout rate significantly in this second rehab. Still, he’s looked slow and hasn’t been able to make good, consistent contact. Here’s hoping that the team doesn’t rush things.
Triston McKenzie – SP Cleveland Guardians
Triston McKenzie’s MRI shows inflammation in right elbow involving UCL ligament https://t.co/0hLj88Ce6x
— paul hoynes (@hoynsie) June 18, 2023
The inflammation here prompted the Guardians to send McKenzie to the Injured List, where he’ll likely stay for a while. It’s still very early, so we don’t know all of the information. This news came out late last night and the team will likely answer questions later today. Stay tuned.
Kris Bryant – OF Colorado Rockies
Rehabbing #Rockies OF Kris Bryant (left foot) is on the trip to Atlanta.
— Thomas Harding (@harding_at_mlb) June 15, 2023
It’s been quiet on the Bryant front, as not a lot of updates have been trickling in. This one is somewhat encouraging, but it still doesn’t take away from the fact that he’ll likely need a rehab outing.
Lance McCullers Jr. – SP Houston Astros
Astros have acquired RHP Joel Kuhnel from the in exchange for cash considerations. To make room for Kuhnel on the 40-man roster, the Astros transferred RHP Lance McCullers Jr. to the 60-day IL. Additionally, Kuhnel has been optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land.
— Brian McTaggart (@brianmctaggart) June 18, 2023
This officially puts him off of the 40-man roster, though McCullers Jr. is expected to be ready for the 2024 season at some point.
Michael Brantley – OF Houston Astros

— Danielle Lerner (@danielle_lerner) June 17, 2023
Brantley looked good while doing this, but we’ve been down this road before. That said, he himself has said that it’s been a long road to get to this point and that he’s learned a lot in the process. Time will tell.
Jose Urquidy – SP Houston Astros
Urquidy is going to throw off the mound tomorrow…about 20 fastballs at 85 mph.
— Brian McTaggart (@brianmctaggart) June 17, 2023
This is a big hurdle to overcome, so any success here should be celebrated.
Anthony Rendon – 3B Los Angeles Angels
Phil Nevin says they are targeting Tuesday for Anthony Rendon to return to the lineup.
He was hit in the wrist by a pitch on Thursday.
— Jeff Fletcher (@JeffFletcherOCR) June 17, 2023
Be prepared.
Julio Urias – SP Los Angeles Dodgers
#Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Julio Urías threw 40 pitches in a bullpen session today. Next step will be to face hitters at Dodger Stadium at some point. He’s still more than a week away from a potential return.
— Juan Toribio (@juanctoribio) June 17, 2023
Urias continues to trend upward as he looks to return before the end of the month.
Chris Taylor – OF Los Angeles Dodgers
#Dodgers Chris Taylor said MRI today showed bone bruise in his right knee. Was “relieved.” Thinks it’ll only be a few days
— Bill Plunkett (@billplunkettocr) June 17, 2023
Bone bruises should only take a handful of days to heal. Taylor remains DTD until he’s able to play.
Edward Cabrera – SP Miami Marlins
Another #Marlins roster move:
RHP Edward Cabrera to the 15-day IL, retro to 6/14, with right shoulder impingement
RHP Huascar Brazoban recalled from Jacksonville
— Jordan McPherson (@J_McPherson1126) June 17, 2023
Yikes. This could lead to a significant amount of time away from the team. For now, he will miss fifteen days, but there’s a chance that he misses much more. Johnny Cueto and a returning Trevor Rogers will eventually compete to take over his spot in the rotation.
Jean Segura – 3B Miami Marlins
Jean Segura to the 10-day IL with a left hamstring strain. That’s the corresponding move for Amaya.#Marlins
— Jordan McPherson (@J_McPherson1126) June 17, 2023
Segura has struggled all season, and this could be the move needed to have him lose his job permanently. For now, Jon Berti and Joe Wednle will man the left side of the infield, but watch out for Amaya. He was a part of the Miguel Rojas deal and has a good hitter profile.
Brandon Woodruff – SP Milwaukee Brewers
Brandon Woodruff is lined up for a bullpen next Saturday, he said. He’s throwing at 120 feet now and will bump up to 135-150 feet before his first go off a mound.
— Curt Hogg (@CyrtHogg) June 16, 2023
This is a big next step for Woodruff, who has said from day one that he would take his time coming back. If he can complete this with success and without pain, we could see an accelerated push to return.
Nick Castellanos – OF Philadelphia Phillies
Nick Castellanos has a stomach bug, according to Rob Thomson. The #Phillies are hopeful that he’ll be able to join them in time for the game and be available off the bench.
— Scott Lauber (@ScottLauber) June 17, 2023
Castellanos did not join them for the game and remained sidelined. Consider him DTD until he’s better.
Dylan Carlson – OF St. Louis Cardinals
#STLCards scratched Dylan Carlson from the lineup with a left elbow contusion. Carlson was hit on the left elbow by a pitch on Friday night. He was also hit in the right shin with a pitch earlier in the game.
— John Denton (@JohnDenton555) June 17, 2023
Carlson was banged up yesterday and is DTD until he’s well enough to return.
Brandon Lowe – 2B Tampa Bay Rays
Kevin Cash is hopeful Brandon Lowe will be able to start activities on the field when the #Rays return Tuesday.
— Kristie Ackert (@ByKristieAckert) June 17, 2023
Lowe has been shut down from baseball activities for two weeks, and the aforementioned date would make it three weeks. From there, he will hopefully ramp up his workload to the point of returning after a rehab assignment.
