We took a look into some of the Low-A pitching standouts in the last article so let’s take this opportunity to look at some of the Low-A batting prospects that are standing out right now. It’s still early enough in some of these dynasty leagues to find several of these names on your waiver wire. Even in deeper dynasty formats some of the names we covered last time in Darlin Saladin are less than 1% rostered in Fantrax leagues. Once again it’s not to say these names could be superstars but they could be valuable as trade assets down the line. Let’s dive into some of the low-A batting prospects standing out right now.
Standout Low-A batting prospects
Aidan Miller, SS/3B PHI
(25 GP, .323/.424/.556, 4 HR, 19 R, 18 RBI, 10 SB)
The Phillies first-round draft pick in 2023 has stood out early this season in Low-A Clearwater. Aidan Miller has a big power upside as he continues to fill into his 6’1” 205-pound frame and early on he has been tapping into some of that raw pop. In 25 games played Miller is slashing .323/.424/.556 with four home runs, 19 runs scored, 18 RBIs, and has 10 stolen bases in 11 attempts. Before he was drafted Miller was praised for his patience at the plate and he hasn’t disappointed since becoming a professional. In 118 plate appearances, Miller is walking 11.9% while striking out just 18.6% all on par with what we saw in the short sample in Complex League and Low-A in 2023.
📝💣PHI SS/3B Aidan Miller has been fantastic thus far. Miller has tapped into the raw power while putting together solid ABs. In 25 GP he has
•.323 AVG
•.424 OBP
•.556 SLG
•4 HR
•18 RBI
•10 SB
•11.9% BB
•18.6% KLook out @BlueClaws he’s coming. @Fantrax #ringthebell https://t.co/HfBSfdcAOt
— Richard Haake (@Mustbethehawk) May 23, 2024
For dynasty managers, Aidan Miller is widely rostered in the majority of dynasty formats, and rightfully so. When we take a look into the numbers it’s not hard to project 20-25 home runs early on in Miller’s career at Citizens Bank Park with a profile similar to Alec Bohm with more power upside. Aidan Miller is rostered in 30% of Fantrax leagues making this a prospect you would have to believe in long term to acquire in a trade.
Angel Genao, SS CLE
(36 GP, .322/.361/.521, 5 HR, 25 R, 30 RBI, 5 SB)
One of the Guardian’s infield prospects is standing out in Low-A Lynchburg and he is Angel Genao. The 20-year-old shortstop is now in his third stint in low-A (only eight games played in 2022) and has made improvements that could push him up to high-A in short order. In 36 games played Genao is slashing .322/.361/.521 with five home runs, 25 runs scored, 30 RBIs, and five stolen bases in eight attempts. Clearly, the speed isn’t Genao’s calling card but the power results early on have been a pleasant surprise. Across Genao’s 36 games in Lynchburg, he has 17 of his 47 total hits going for extra bases an improvement over last year in half the games played.
📝💪CLE SS Angel Genao has been solid in Low-A Lynchburg this season and could be seeing High-A Lake County soon. In 36 GP he has
•.322 AVG
•.361 OBP
•.521 SLG
•5 HR
•25 R
•30 RBI
•5 SB
•14.6% KSolid production early on. #fortheland @Fantrax @LCCaptains @LynHillcats https://t.co/lLKLVQUy8a
— Richard Haake (@Mustbethehawk) May 23, 2024
In addition to the power gains Genao continues to be solid at the plate walking 6.3% while striking out just 14.6% of his 158 plate appearances. This season Genao is pulling the ball more in an environment that usually suppresses home run power this with the increase to his line drive rate and home-run-to-fly ball rate peaks my interest going forward. Angel Genao is rostered in 3% of Fantrax leagues making this a potential target on your waiver wire in 15-team formats and up.
Romeo Sanabria, C/1B SDP
(38 GP, .324/.443/.528, 6 HR, 28 R, 25 RBI, 3 SB)
San Diego continues to do a solid job scouting and drafting college talent that pops up once they are in the organization. We saw this with Graham Pauley and Jakob Marsee in 2023 and now we could be seeing the same thing with Romeo Sanabria. Drafted in the 18th round of the 2022 MLB draft out of Indian River State College Sanabria stands 6’3” and 200 pounds and has shown some upside over his last two professional seasons. In 38 games played in Low-A Lake Elsinore, he is slashing .324/.443/.528 with six home runs, 28 runs scored, 25 RBIs, and three stolen bases. Sanabria is hitting the ball with authority crushing 17 of his 46 total hits for extra bases.
📝💣SDP 1B/C Romeo Sanabria could be this year’s Marsee and Pauley. 18th round pick in 22 out of @IRSC_Baseball has been fantastic. In 38 GP he has
•.324 AVG
•.443 OBP
•.528 SLG
•6 HR
•25 RBI
•17.2% BB
•18.4% KMake sure to stash him now. @TinCaps awaits! @Fantrax https://t.co/uKx8GwmAeS
— Richard Haake (@Mustbethehawk) May 23, 2024
At the plate, Sanabria shows a disciplined approach walking 17.2% while striking out just 18.4% of his 174 plate appearances. Since the beginning of 2023, Sanabria has not had a walk percentage below 14.8% nor an OBP below .424. This is a prospect that could pop up dynasty rankings if he replicates these numbers in High-A Fort Wayne. Currently, Romeo Sanabria is rostered in less than 1% of Fantrax dynasty leagues making this an excellent waiver wire pickup in deep formats.
Jeral Perez, 2B LAD
(34 GP, .312/.439/.512, 5 HR, 22 R, 21 RBI, 4 SB)
Los Angeles Dodgers have a fantastic scouting and development department that continues to crank out top-level prospects and Jeral Perez is quickly becoming one to watch. The 19-year-old second baseman stands 6’0” and 179 pounds and is starting to tap into some of his raw power. In 34 games played Perez is slashing .312/.439/.512 with five home runs, 22 runs scored, 21 RBIs, and four stolen bases in six attempts. Perez is effective in pulling the ball and to this point 15 of his 39 total hits have gone for extra bases. At the plate, Perez has walked 16.8% while striking out 22.6% of his 155 total plate appearances in Low-A.
📝💣LAD 2B Jeral Perez has been fantastic for Low-A @RCQuakes. The 19 yo has performed well at every level and this year is no exception. In 34 GP he has
•.312 AVG
•.439 OBP
•.512 SLG
•5 HR
•21 RBI
•16.8% BB
•22.6% KShould get the bump soon. Stash now ☑️. @Fantrax https://t.co/VRUGzO5r4e
— Richard Haake (@Mustbethehawk) May 23, 2024
For dynasty managers Perez has some upside as he continues to tap into his above-average power. The numbers he has posted to this point fall inline with what he has been able to do in his two prior seasons. Down to the walk and strikeout percentages Perez has remained constant making him an interesting prospect to stash or target in deeper formats. Currently, Jeral Perez is 13% rostered in Fantrax dynasty leagues.
Lazaro Montes, OF SEA
(38 GP, .336/.441/.557, 7 HR, 33 R, 44 RBI, 1 SB)
The hard-hitting Lazaro Montes is every bit what has been advertised to this point. Now in his second stint in Low-A Modesto, Montes has gone on to surpass his production in the same number of games from 2023. Now 19-years-old Montes is cruising for a promotion in the not-so-distant future and dynasty managers are ready for it. In 38 games played Montes is slashing .336/.441/.557 with seven home runs, 33 runs scored, 44 RBIs, and has one stolen base. Of his 50 total hits, 18 are for extra-base hits. At the plate, Montes has increased his walk percentage to 15.1% (1.6% up from 2023) and decreased his strikeout rate to 16.2% (8.8% down from 2023) across 179 plate appearances.
📝💣SEA OF Lazaro Montes has surpassed his production at Low-A in 23 and needs to be bumped to High-A Everett. In 38 GP he has
•.336 AVG
•.441 OBP
•.557 SLG
•7 HR
•44 RBI (14 RBI ⬆️)
•15.1% BB (1.6% ⬆️)
•16.2% K (8.8% ⬇️)Call up please 🙏 👏 @Fantrax https://t.co/NboMkV97ah
— Richard Haake (@Mustbethehawk) May 23, 2024
Dynasty managers do not need much convincing to acquire or hold on to Lazaro Montes. This could be a major impact bat for the Mariners in the not-so-distant future similar to how Julio Rodriguez took the baseball world by storm. There is 30-plus home run potential here and the early batting average returns paired with an advanced plate approach makes his floor high as well. Lazaro Montes is currently rostered in 36% of Fantrax leagues.
