Deep League Waiver Wire Targets for Week 27
15-Team Mixed League Targets
1. Eric Wagaman, 1B, Angles
No team has had more players featured in this weekly article this season than the Angels. Now, with Eric Wagaman, they may have saved their best for last. Since his call-up on September 10, Wagaman has batted .267 with two home runs and five RBI. More importantly for his deep league appeal, is his steady playing time with seven consecutive games started. His production so far is on par with his minor league pace where he had 17 home runs and 60 RBI in 446 at bats. He’s not likely to win the last week for contending fantasy managers, but he could provide the extra boost needed to get across the finish line first.

2. Angel Martinez, SS/OF, Guardians
A rule with this weekly article has been to avoid featuring the same player multiple times. We’ve kept to that rule all season, until now. Angel Martinez was originally featured as a deep league target back in June and went on to have several productive weeks. However, he was optioned back to the minors after the Guardians returned to full health. Now, with Steven Kwan back on the IL, Martinez is back on the roster and picking up where he left off. In his six games since returning to the club he has hit .304 with a .360 OBP. We’ve already seen Martinez start out his first stint in the major with a hot stretch, so this could provide a key waiver add for the remaining games.

AL-Only League Targets
1. Sean Burke, SP, White Sox
For better or worse most traditional AL or NL-only rotisseries leagues still use the win as a key category. This is a challenging category given the scarcity of starting pitching and the unpredictability of wins. As a rule of thumb, avoid pitchers on bad offensive teams. However, those teams can sometimes get hot and treat their starting pitchers to wins. This was the case for Sean Burke in his first-ever MLB start last week in a matchup against the A’s. Burke will get one more start next week against the Tigers that will feature one of their backend starters. If Burke can get through another five solid innings again in the start, he has a decent chance to earn a win.

NL-Only League Targets
1. Billy Cook, OF, Pirates
Ironically, there’s not likely any player that’s ‘cooking’ out of nowhere recently more than Billy Cook. While his batting average since his call up on September 8 is a measly .208, he’s provided several big fantasy contributions. Most notably, he has multiple two-hit games with RBI production included. In his most recent game Cook launched his first MLB home run as part of a three RBI night. In reality, this is just a hot stretch and Cook will hold little to no fantasy appeal next season. Yet, with just one week left, it’s worth trying to catch lightning in a bottle with Billy Cook.
