Rest of Season Fantasy Baseball Rankings: First Half Fantasy All-Stars

It may be hard to believe, but we have crossed the halfway point of the 2024 MLB regular season. That means we are right in the thick of All-Star voting season. While I continue to look forward with my latest rest-of-season rankings update below, I also wanted to take a look back at the first half of the season from a fantasy perspective. With that in mind, I present to you the 2024 Fantasy Baseball All-Stars!

A couple of quick notes on these rosters. First, this is based solely on year-to-date production. This is not a reflection of my ROS rankings (sorry Jurickson), nor is it a “value” list relative to ADP. These are just the best players so far this season in each league at each position, give or take a few. I say that because I tried to make it as realistic as possible based on roster configuration. I gave each league one starter at each position, along with 11 reserve hitters. Each side has 12 pitchers, which I split using eight starters and four relievers. And yes, I am abiding by that ridiculous rule where each MLB team needs at least one representative. I also pretended all players were currently healthy for this experiment. Pitchers and reserves are listed in alphabetical order.

On that note, let’s start with the honorable mention group. These are players whose year-to-date production warrants a spot in the Fantasy All-Star Game. However, I had to make some adjustments based on team inclusion as well as positional scarcity.

American League Honorable Mention

  • Salvador Perez, Catcher, Kansas City Royals: .282 AVG, 31 Runs, 13 Home Runs, 49 RBI, 0 Stolen Bases
  • Maikel Garcia, Third Base, Kansas City Royals: .232 AVG, 51 Runs, 5 Home Runs, 40 RBI, 21 Stolen Bases
  • Anthony Volpe, Shortstop, New York Yankees: .264 AVG, 58 Runs, 6 Home Runs, 28 RBI, 15 Stolen Bases

I removed Volpe from the American League All-Star team as punishment for having a terrible June. That’s not true, but I am a Yankee fan, so I am pretending it is. He has still been a top-50 fantasy hitter so far this year. The same can be said of Maikel Garcia. But I made an executive decision based on the number of quality infielders the American League has, several of whom can fill multiple positions if needed.

National League Honorable Mention

  • Christian Walker, First Base, Arizona Diamondbacks: .250 AVG, 49 Runs, 17 Home Runs, 51 RBI, 2 Stolen Bases
  • Brice Turang, Second Base, Milwaukee Brewers: .290 AVG, 39 Runs, 5 Home Runs, 33 RBI, 28 Stolen Bases
  • Bryan Hudson, Relief Pitcher, Milwaukee Brewers: 4-0, 51 Strikeouts, 0.82 ERA, 0.61 WHIP

Christian Walker and Brice Turang should make the NL team based on their year-to-date production. However, I needed to add a Colorado Rockie and a San Francisco Giant, and their most obvious representatives were infielders. The National League has three elite DHs, so I am deploying two of them as outfielders. Since this is a fantasy baseball experiment, I was surprised to have originally included Bryan Hudson considering he has no saves and a relatively low four wins. However, he has been so good that he has still been a major asset. By the way, he is only rostered in 47 percent of Fantrax leagues. You’re welcome.

American League 2024 Fantasy All-Stars

Starters

  • Adley Rutschman, Catcher, Baltimore Orioles: .298 AVG, 44 Runs, 15 Home Runs, 55 RBI, 1 Stolen Base
  • Josh Naylor, First Base, Cleveland Guardians: .239 AVG, 45 Runs, 20 Home Runs, 60 RBI, 3 Stolen Bases
  • Jose Altuve, Second Base, Houston Astros: .301 AVG, 50 Runs, 13 Home Runs, 36 RBI, 13 Stolen Bases
  • Gunnar Henderson, Third Base, Baltimore Orioles: .292, 73 Runs, 26 Home Runs, 58 RBI, 13 Stolen Bases
  • Bobby Witt Jr., Shortstop, Kansas City Royals: .307 AVG, 63 Runs, 12 Home Runs, 53 RBI, 22 Stolen Bases
  • Aaron Judge, Outfield, New York Yankees: .313 AVG, 60 Runs, 30 Home Runs, 80 RBI, 5 Stolen Bases
  • Juan Soto, Outfield, New York Yankees: .302 AVG, 68 Runs, 20 Home Runs, 60 RBI, 4 Stolen Bases
  • Jarren Duran, Outfield, Boston Red Sox: .287 AVG, 56 Runs, 8 Home Runs, 38 RBI, 20 Stolen Bases
  • Jose Ramirez, Designated Hitter, Cleveland Guardians: .280 AVG, 64 Runs, 23 Home Runs, 75 RBI, 15 Stolen Bases

I was surprised to see Josh Naylor still holding down the top spot at first base given his recent struggles. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is catching up quickly. And yes, I know Gunnar Henderson is not playing third base this year. But I have Jose Ramirez at DH, so they are interchangeable.

  • Kyle Tucker, Outfield, Houston Astros: .266 AVG, 42 Runs, 19 Home Runs, 40 RBI, 10 Stolen Bases
  • Jordan Westburg, Second Base, Baltimore Orioles: .285 AVG, 40 Runs, 13 Home Runs, 48 RBI, 6 Stolen Bases

National League 2024 Fantasy All-Stars

Starters

  • William Contreras, Catcher, Milwaukee Brewers: .291 AVG, 56 Runs, 9 Home Runs, 50 RBI, 5 Stolen Bases
  • Bryce Harper, First Base, Philadelphia Phillies: .303 AVG, 52 Runs, 20 Home Runs, 58 RBI, 4 Stolen Bases
  • Ketel Marte, Second Base, Arizona Diamondbacks: .290 AVG, 55 Runs, 17 Home Runs, 49 RBI, 3 Stolen Bases
  • Alec Bohm, Third Base, Philadelphia Phillies: .298 AVG, 37 Runs, 9 Home Runs, 66 RBI, 4 Stolen Bases
  • Elly De La Cruz, Shortstop, Cincinnati Reds: .255 AVG, 55 Runs, 14 Home Runs, 37 RBI, 40 Stolen Bases
  • Marcell Ozuna, Outfield, Atlanta Braves: .300 AVG, 47 Runs, 21 Home Runs, 67 RBI, 0 Stolen Bases
  • Kyle Schwarber, Outfield, Philadelphia Phillies: .250 AVG, 60 Runs, 17 Home Runs, 49 RBI, 4 Stolen Bases
  • Jurickson Profar, Outfield, San Diego Padres: .315 AVG, 47 Runs, 11 Home Runs, 55 RBI, 4 Stolen Bases
  • Shohei Ohtani, Designated Hitter, Los Angeles Dodgers: 321, 67 Runs, 26 Home Runs, 62 RBI, 16 Stolen Bases

I am not sure what else we can say about Jurickson Profar and his first half. He is a top-three fantasy outfielder in the National League. Profar could go hitless in July, and he will have still exceeded expectations. His is a great story, and I want to believe in him going forward. But I just cannot fully get there when it comes to my ROS rankings. He has had seven MLB seasons of 85 games played or more. His highest batting average in any of those years was .254. I honestly hope I’m wrong, and that he continues to ball out.

Pitchers

  • Kyle Finnegan, Relief Pitcher, Washington Nationals: 2-4, 22 Saves, 2.16 ERA, 1.02 WHIP
  • Tyler Glasnow, Starting Pitcher, Los Angeles Dodgers: 8-5, 136 Strikeouts, 3.23 ERA, 0.93 WHIP
  • Sonny Gray, Starting Pitcher, St. Louis Cardinals: 9-5, 109 Strikeouts, 2.98 ERA, 0.99 WHIP
  • Ryan Helsley, Relief Pitcher, St. Louis Cardinals: 2-3, 29 Saves, 2.68 ERA, 1.22 WHIP
  • Shota Imanaga, Starting Pitcher, Chicago Cubs: 7-2, 84 Strikeouts, 3.07 ERA, 1.11 WHIP
  • Reynaldo Lopez, Starting Pitcher, Atlanta Braves: 6-2, 81 Strikeouts, 1.70 ERA, 1.11 WHIP
  • Chris Sale, Starting Pitcher, Atlanta Braves: 10-3, 118 Strikeouts, 2.79 ERA, 0.92 WHIP
  • Tanner Scott, Relief Pitcher, Miami Marlins: 6-5, 12 Saves, 1.50 ERA, 1.14 WHIP
  • Gavin Stone, Starting Pitcher, Los Angeles Dodgers: 9-2, 70 Strikeouts, 2.73 ERA, 1.12 WHIP
  • Ranger Suarez, Starting Pitcher, Philadelphia Phillies: 10-2, 99 Strikeouts, 2.01 ERA, 0.93 WHIP
  • Robert Suarez, Relief Pitcher, San Diego Padres: 4-1, 20 Saves, 1.09 ERA, 0.79 WHIP
  • Zack Wheeler, Starting Pitcher, Philadelphia Phillies: 9-4, 112 Strikeouts, 2.73 ERA, 0.98 WHIP

I think one of the most incredible 2024 stats is that Marlins closer Tanner Scott has a 6-5 record, while Braves starter Reynaldo Lopez is 6-2. If you have Scott on your roster, be thankful for the six wins, and try to unload him on a league mate as soon as possible. He is heavily linked to several teams in the trade market. Once he is traded, he will have virtually no chance of closing with his new team. For the record, this is not reflected in this week’s rest-of-season rankings because it has not happened yet. But it is likely just a matter of time. Scott will no longer be a must-rostered player once he is in another uniform.

Reserves

  • CJ Abrams, Shortstop, Washington Nationals: .282 AVG, 50 Runs, 13 Home Runs, 42 RBI, 13 Stolen Bases
  • Mookie Betts, Outfield, Los Angeles Dodgers: .304 AVG, 50 Runs, 10 Home Runs, 40 RBI, 9 Stolen Bases
  • Matt Chapman, Third Base, San Francisco Giants: .241 AVG, 54 Runs, 10 Home Runs, 36 RBI, 7 Stolen Bases
  • Freddie Freeman, First Base, Los Angeles Dodgers: .298 AVG, 52 Runs, 12 Home Runs, 52 RBI, 3 Stolen Bases
  • Teoscar Hernandez, Outfield, Los Angeles Dodgers: .250 AVG, 44 Runs, 18 Home Runs, 55 RBI, 4 Stolen Bases
  • Francisco Lindor, Shortstop, New York Mets: .252 AVG, 52 Runs, 13 Home Runs, 40 RBI, 15 Stolen Bases
  • Ryan McMahon, Second Base, Colorado Rockies: .272 AVG, 42 Runs, 14 Home Runs, 42 RBI, 2 Stolen Bases
  • Bryan Reynolds, Outfield, Pittsburgh Pirates: .278 AVG, 35 Runs, 13 Home Runs, 46 RBI, 5 Stolen Bases
  • Will Smith, Catcher, Los Angeles Dodgers: .269 AVG, 38 Runs, 11 Home Runs, 50 RBI, 0 Stolen Bases
  • Fernando Tatis Jr., Outfield, San Diego Padres: .279 AVG, 50 Runs, 14 Home Runs, 36 RBI, 8 Stolen Bases
  • Christian Yelich, Outfield, Milwaukee Brewers: .318 AVG, 33 Runs, 7 Home Runs, 34 RBI, 18 Stolen Bases

Sure, Ryan McMahon hasn’t played second base at all this season. But you try to find a spot for a Colorado Rockies player on this team. McMahon has experience at the Keystone and has been the most valuable Rockie in fantasy baseball thus far.
