Week 4 Quarterback and Running Back Starts and Sits

The starts and sits for Week 3 featured some bold takes, such as starting Caleb Williams and benching Anthony Richardson. Williams finished as the QB14, and Richardson finished as the QB31. I had bad misses on running backs, such as starting D’Andre Swift and Zamir White and benching Aaron Jones.

In Week 4, I am sitting a Quarterback who is the best in the NFL but has not been himself when it comes to fantasy football.

Week 4 Quarterback Starts

Caleb Williams vs Los Angeles Rams

Caleb Williams gets another soft matchup in back-to-back weeks. The Rams allowed Brock Purdy to finish as the QB5, and he was missing his three best weapons on offense. Williams will look to pass for another 300-plus yards in Week 4.

The Rams are currently allowing 21.03 fantasy ppg to quarterbacks, which is third most after three weeks. Even with a tragic offensive line, Williams will be able to exceed expectations once again. If he can keep the turnovers down, he will be a QB1 this week.

Justin Fields @ Indianapolis Colts

Justin Fields has been the QB19 through three games, which is not okay. The okay thing is that the Pittsburgh Steelers are 3-0, and it looks like Fields finally found an organization that wants him. He did have his best game of the season in Week 3 with a QB12 finish and 19.4 points.

Now, he gets to face a Colts team that just allowed Caleb Williams to throw for over 350 yards and two touchdowns. The Colts give up yards for fun to running backs and quarterbacks. I expect Fields to continue the great play from a week ago with another QB1 finish in Week 4.

Quarterback Sits

Brock Purdy vs New England Patriots

The San Francisco 49ers have been dealing with a handful of injuries through three weeks of football. George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, and Christian McCaffrey all missed last week’s game, and McCaffrey is on IR at this current moment. The Niners got a soft Rams defense last week and ended up losing at the last second.

The Patriots are a much better team on defense, and a QB1 finish for Brock Purdy is something I cannot get on board with. Despite his elite play last week, I would pivot and keep Purdy on the bench.

Patrick Mahomes @ Los Angeles Chargers

Last week, I had the elite Anthony Richardson as a sit. In Week 4, Patrick Mahomes, the best quarterback in football, makes the sits side of things. Mahomes has not lived up to his ADP, and despite the Kansas City Chiefs being 3-0, Mahomes has been a letdown for fantasy football. It does not get any easier as the Chiefs face division rival, the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Chargers are giving up just 10.38 fantasy points to quarterbacks through three weeks and allowing just 195 passing yards per game, two interceptions, and four total touchdowns. Yes, it sounds horrible, but at cost, Mahomes has not lived up to his name and should be on the bench in Week 4.

Running Back Starts

Najee Harris vs Indianapolis Colts

The Colts have been shredded by running backs through three weeks. They have allowed just the 18th most fantasy ppg to the position but the most total rushing yards. Najee Harris is a little banged up but not as bad as Jaylen Warren, who is set to receive an MRI on his knee.

The match-up is set for Najee Harris to continue his improvement through the first month of football. RB33, RB30, and RB20 are Harris’ finishes in the first three games. Harris will be a RB1 in Week 4. Do not hesitate to insert him into your lineup.

Tony Pollard @ Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins season is slowly getting away from them. Their starting quarterback is set to not be back till Week 8, and their offense has no life without him.

The Titans, on the other hand, fight hard each game, but overall, just not a good football team. In Week 4, Tony Pollard gets to fix his mistake from having a horrible Week 3. The Dolphins allow the eighth-most fantasy ppg to the position and six total touchdowns through three games. Do not let Pollard’s bad game last week have you sitting him in Week 4.

Running Back Sits

JK Dobbins vs Kansas City Chiefs

JK Dobbins went CRAZY the first two weeks of football; then he came back down to earth in Week 3. Dobbins started the season off with consecutive RB1 weeks with over 20 points. He did not even have ten points in Week 3 against a tough Steelers defense. He gets a defense just as tough in terms of stopping the run this week.

The Kansas City Chiefs have given up the fourth fewest ppg to the position and under 60 rushing ypg. JK Dobbins will still be good this fantasy season, but those first two weeks were not sustainable for a 17-game season. Keep him on your bench for this divisional game.

Travis Etienne @ Houston Texans

The Jacksonville Jaguars look like a bottom-five team this season. Their offense is flat, and Travis Etienne is losing snaps to Tank Bigsby. Etienne was drafted as an RB1 this off-season and has not finished as one in the three games so far.

In week 4, he faces a scary Houston Texans defense that is giving up just 63 rushing ypg to the position and under 25 ypc in the receiving department. Despite being drafted to be a superstar, it is okay to bench your “stars” at given times. The match-up does not look good, but the team does as well. Keep Travis Etienne on the bench in Week 4.
