Week 8 NFL DFS: Money Makers and Heart Breakers

Welcome to Week 8 of Money Makers and Heart Breakers for the 2024 NFL season! Every week I break down the main slate to tell you who is going to get you some money and who is going to break your heart.

Week 8 is great! I am keeping this extra short this week.

Here is a brief definition of each of my terms for anyone that might be new:

💰 Money Maker – This player will perform better than expectations

💔 Heart Breaker – This player will perform lower than expectations

Week 8 Money Makers💰

Quarterbacks

Jordan Love

Jordan Love has passed for over 220 yards and multiple touchdowns in four straight games. In Week 8 the Packers will play the Jaguars. The Jaguars give up the most fantasy points to opposing teams’ quarterbacks. In six out of seven games this season quarterbacks have passed for over 300 yards and/or multiple touchdowns against the Jaguars. I simply Love Jordan this week.

Kirk Cousins

The Falcons will play the Buccaneers in Week 8. They just played this Buccaneers team in Week 5. Cousins passed for 509 yards and 4 touchdowns in that game. In Week 7 Lamar Jackson passed for 281 yards and 5 touchdowns against this Buccaneers defense. I expect Cousins to have another big game in Week 8. Bucs cornerbacks just look defenseless.

Jameis Winston

The Browns will play the Ravens in Week 8. The Ravens give up the third most fantasy points to opposing teams quarterbacks. Winston passed for 67 yards and a touchdown after coming in as the third quarterback for the Browns in Week 7. The past three weeks the Ravens have been torched for an average of 344 yards and 3 touchdowns per game. Winston checks in.

Running Backs

Javonte Williams

The Panthers give up the most points to opposing running backs. The Broncos will play the Panthers in Week 8. Williams is the starting running back for the Broncos. Are you picking up what I am putting down? No, you need more huh? Williams leads the Broncos in running back snaps, In Week 7 Williams had 17 total touches which in turned into a combined 111 yards and 2 touchdowns. It’s not chasing the points, the Panthers really are this bad. In seven games 11 different running backs have scored double-digit fantasy points against the Panthers.

Kenneth Walker

The Seahawks get the Bills in Week 8. The Bills give up the second most fantasy points to opposing teams running backs. Walker has scored double-digit fantasy points in every game he has played this season. Walker will get fantasy points on the ground, he will get them in the air, he will get fantasy points everywhere. In week 8 that is,

JK Dobbins

When playing teams that are not good at defending the run Dobbins has averaged 20 fantasy points per game. The Chargers will play the Saints in Week 8. The Saints do not defend running backs well. Running backs average 117 yards and a touchdown rushing and another 40 yards receiving against the Chargers every week. Dobbins is going to be Charged up this week.

NOTE: Kareem Hunt is someone I am playing as well.

Wide Receivers

Cedric Tillman

I already mentioned that the Ravens do not defend the pass well. The Ravens give up the second most fantasy points to opposing teams’ wide receivers. Tillman played 82% of the snaps for the Browns offense in Week 7. He saw a 23% target share in Week 7. That was 12 targets, which Tillman turned into 8 receptions and 81 yards. Winston to Tillman looks like it may become a thing.

$5,100 on FanDuel

Romeo Doubs

Since Romeo started complaining he has turned into a true dive wide receiver. In the past two weeks, Doubs has 14 targets, 11 receptions, 143 yards and 2 touchdowns. In Week 7 Romeo had 10 targets which led the team with a 30% target share. In Week 8 he plays against a Jaguars defense that gives up the fourth most fantasy points to wide receivers. Oh Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou?

$6,100 on FanDuel

Drake London

In Week 5 against this same Buccaneers defense that the Falcons will play in Week 8. London had 12 receptions, 154 yards and a touchdown. Drake has 26% target share on the season. Darnell Mooney is also in play this week against the Buccaneers, but I am leaning into London as he has scored a touchdown in three straight games and is going to make it four straight in Week 8.

Tight Ends

David Njoku

This is the third time a Browns player has come up as a Money Maker this week. If Watson was still playing this never would have happened. But Winston is driving this bus now and he will force the ball to guys like Njoku. In Week 7 Njoku saw 14 targets and turned that into 10 receptions, 76 yards, and a touchdown. Playing that against a defense that gives up on average 6 receptions and 76 yards to tight ends this season. Play David I am not Njokuing.

$5,500 on FanDuel

Brock Bowers

Bowers has three straight weeks of double-digit fantasy scores. He is the top option in the Raiders passing game. This week Bowers is playing against the Chiefs defense that gives up the most fantasy points to opposing tight ends. The volume and production will be there. The current over TE2 in fantasy will start pushing to try to move into the overall number 1 spot this week.

DEF

Lions

The Lions play the Titans in Week 8. The Titans give up the most fantasy points to opposing defenses. IN the last two games the Lions have got 4 sacks in each game. They also have not played a lot of teams that allow fantasy points to defenses. This week that changes. Look for a double digit score from the Lions this week.

$3,500 on DraftKings
$4,000 on FanDuel

Chiefs

The Raiders are pretty bad. The last four defenses to play the Raiders have averaged 14 fantasy points per game against them. Five out of seven teams have scored double-digit fantasy points against the Raiders this season. The Chiefs play the Raiders in Week 8. It will be sloppy, it will be ugly, and the Chiefs will most likely still be undefeated after this game.

$3,000 on DraftKings
$4,700 on FanDuel

Broncos

The Broncos play the Panthers in Week 8. Bryce Young will be starting at quarterback for the Panthers. The Broncos have an excellent defense. Bryce Young is a really bad quarterback. You see where this is going right? I am paying for the Broncos in DFS this week. I will enjoy watching Bryce throwing interceptions and getting sacked.

$3,700 on DraftKings
$5,000 on FanDuel

NOTE: The Jets are a defense I like against the Patriots as well.

💔Heart Breakers

Quarterbacks

Kyler Murray

Murray has been ok thus far this season. In Week 8 Ok isn’t going to cut it as the Cardinals play the Dolphins and the Dolphins give up the fewest fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. No one has multiple touchdowns yet against the Dolphins and only one quarterback has passed for over 200 yards against the Dolphins defense.

Jayden Daniels

The Commanders play the Bears in Week 8. The Bears give up the second-fewest fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. Daniels is dinged up and in the toughest match-up he has seen this season. I’ll pass on Daniels in Week 8.

Bryce Young

The Broncos defense is really good. Bryce Young is really bad. If you need more than this to tell me not to play him you must be really new to fantasy football this season. Yuck!

Running Backs

Alexander Mattison

The Raiders play the Chiefs in Week 8. The Chiefs give up the least amount of fantasy points to running backs. I am playing Mattison in season-long because the volume should still be there but I am avoiding him in DFS. There are simply too many good running back matchups to risk it on Mattison in Week 8 in DFS.

Alvin Kamara

The Saints play the Chargers in Week 8. The Chargers give up the second-fewest fantasy points to running backs. The Saints have been struggling on offense with so many players out hurt. I hate saying to stay away from Kamara but stay away from Kamara in Week 8.

Tony Pollard

The Titans play the Lions in Week 8. The Lions are good at stopping the run. Pollard has been the only bright spot on the Titans this season. In Week 8 even he will not be good.

Wide Receivers

Marvin Harrison Jr.

Harrison has had an up-and-down rookie season so far. I should say mostly down. Like if you drafted him in the second round of your season-long draft you must be severely depressed. Well, it doesn’t get any better in Week 8. The Cardinals play the Dolphins who give up the fewest fantasy points to wide receivers. I just threw up in my mouth.

Diontae Johnson

Do you know who gives up the second-fewest fantasy points to Wide Receivers? That would be the Broncos. To top it off, Bryce “I am not good at throwing the ball” Young will be playing quarterback for the Broncos. I think I had a note already saying to play the Broncos defense, Yes, playing the Broncos’ defense was the bonus play.

Chris Olave

Even if he is playing Olave is a bad play in Week 8. Stay away from Olave until Derek Carr is back passing the ball for the Saints. To top it off the Chargers defend wide receivers really well. Good defense, bad quarterback, it’s a story as old as time.

Tight Ends

Mike Gesicki

As if you needed a reason to not play Gesicki. I have one for you anyway, the Eagles give up the fewest fantasy points to tight ends. You weren’t playing him anyway. Feel free to call me Captain Obvious on this one.

Sam LaPorta

Is there a more disappointing tight end this season? If you thought you were disappointed in LaPorta before, wait until you see how well the Titans defend the tight end. Wait, maybe there will be more targets for him this week. Maybe. I don’t think I want to play the guy in a bad matchup that has stunk all season because “maybe he will get more targets this week”.
