This starts and sits column has arrived at the end of the fantasy football regular season. In Week 13, we had our best week of the season. Starts and sits had a 75% hit rate. Bryce Young and Russell Wilson were both starts and finished inside the top eight quarterbacks. Our quarterback sits saw Jordan Love be a QB2, but Tua Tagovailoa finished as a QB1.
Rico Dowdle finished as the RB6 in the running back starts, his second-best finish of the season, but saw Rhamondre Stevenson finish as the RB21. Our running back sits were both correct, with D’Andre Swift finishing as the RB30 and James Conner as the RB25. Let’s clinch some playoff spots with the Week 14 starts and sits.
Numerous teams with quarterbacks like Lamar Jackson, CJ Stroud, Bo Nix, and Jayden Daniels are on a bye this week. Time to get surgical.
Week 14 Quarterback Starts
Will Levis vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
Will Levis has had 18 fantasy points in consecutive games with a QB13 finish in there. He has not had a QB1 finish since Week 10, which was his only one of the season. Levis gets to face the Jacksonville Jaguars, who lost Trevor Lawrence for the season in Week 13. Levis gets a chance to have his best game of the season, but most importantly, show the Titans he can be their guy. The Jaguars have allowed 24 touchdowns to just five interceptions to opposing quarterbacks on the season. Levis has thrown for two touchdowns in three of his last four games. I am starting Will Levis if I have my main quarterback on a bye in Week 14.
Aidan O’Connell @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Aidan O’Connell had 340 passing yards, two touchdowns, and a QB13 finish in Week 13 against the two-time defending champions, Kansas City Chiefs. O’Connell gets a much easier matchup in Week 14 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Buccaneers are giving up 22.11 fantasy ppg to quarterbacks, which is second most. O’Connell is not a franchise guy, and the Raiders will most likely be drafting their franchise quarterback in April. I expect O’Connell to keep slinging with a chip on his shoulder in Week 14.
Quarterback Sits
Brock Purdy vs. Chicago Bears
The Brock Purdy hype has slowed down. He has been on and off with injuries, and all his weapons have been exiled with injuries. George Kittle is the only light of the 49ers offense. Deebo Samuel should be getting plenty of chances with Brandon Aiyuk out, but instead, Jauan Jennings has outproduced him. The Chicago Bears are allowing the second-fewest fantasy ppg to quarterbacks. With so much at stake in Week 14, pivot towards a better option.
Tua Tagovailoa vs. New York Jets
Tua Tagoviloa and the Miami Dolphins are fighting for the playoffs, and he has played well since returning from IR. The issue is the Jets have given up just nine passing touchdowns all season to quarterbacks. Add that the Jets are one of the worst football teams in the NFL, and I think this game is ugly overall, with Tagoviloa not having to do much to get a win.
Week 14 Running Back Starts
Tony Pollard vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
Tony Pollard is my favorite player in all of starts and sits. He is also someone I will talk about as a possible “league-winner” with a fantastic schedule for the fantasy football playoffs. Pollard faces the Jaguars, who are giving up the second most fantasy ppg to running backs this season. Pollard gets to face the Jaguars two times in the next month of football. He has finished as the RB15 and the RB5 in his two games against AFC South opponents. I expect Pollard to finish as a RB1 in Week 14.
D’Andre Swift @ San Francisco 49ers
D’Andre Swift was a sit last week but finds himself as a start in Week 14. Swift has not had a great game since Week 11. The good thing is that he faces the 49ers, who are allowing the fifth most fantasy ppg to running backs with 16 total touchdowns allowed to the position. To help the rookie Caleb Williams, an A+ outing will be needed by Swift.
Running Back Sits
Chuba Hubbard @ Philadelphia Eagles
Chuba Hubbard has been one of if not the best value of all football players in fantasy this season. Hubbard has had six RB1 finishes and is currently the RB13 in total points. He has filled in nicely, as he was either not drafted or drafted very late in fantasy drafts. The Eagles are a tall task, though, as they have allowed the fifth-fewest fantasy ppg to running backs and look more elite on defense than in previous years. Despite how much Hubbard has helped you this season, it is scary to start him this week.
Los Angeles Chargers running backs @ Kansas City Chiefs
The Los Angeles Chargers took a big hit when JK Dobbins went to the IR. I think this week against the Chiefs, we will see the old pass-happy Justin Herbert in a critical division game. The run game is not the same with Dobbins not there, and the Chiefs are allowing the fewest fantasy ppg to running backs with under 700 total rushing yards allowed this season. Stay away from Gus Edwards and Kimani Vidal in Week 14.
