Fantasy Baseball Injury Report

Gunnar Henderson – SS Baltimore Orioles

This is a minor wrinkle in the notion of Henderson returning to the Orioles’ lineup. After having played an evening game last night, it could be tough for him to make his way from Norfolk, Virginia, to Baltimore, Maryland, all within a time frame that gives him enough time to be ready and rested for today’s afternoon game. Some reports state that he is en route to play for the Orioles, so that’s a positive development on that front. The good news is that if his return does get delayed, it won’t be for long, as the team has already said that if he doesn’t play on Thursday, he will debut in Kansas City this weekend.

Grayson Rodriguez – SP Baltimore Orioles

This, alongside some short box sessions where the pitcher is closer to the catcher, are all good signs of progression here. It is these sorts of things that he would be doing at the start of Spring Training, as the team has said he would be starting from scratch once he resumed throwing. As such, he will still need to throw live bullpens and then likely pitch in a handful of rehab outings, all of which are designed to build up his pitch count. While he still has a ways to go, this can and should be considered great news.

Tomoyuki Sugano – SP Baltimore Orioles

All of this makes sense, as hindsight is always 20/20. Hopefully, the team and Sugano himself can use this as a learning lesson to prevent these sorts of things from happening again. The biggest news here, though, is that the removal from his debut was not for anything serious.

Jack Leiter – SP Texas Rangers

From the sounds of it, this precautionary exit could mean that Leiter will avoid time on the Injured List. He had quite a day on the mound, and if it developed late in his start, then there’s a good chance that it wasn’t given a chance to grow. Blisters will sometimes linger, so this is something to watch, but it would appear for now that he has avoided something significant.

Freddie Freeman – 1B Los Angeles Dodgers

While Freeman did miss another game, it’s a good sign that he was able to work out with the team and do some pregame drills. The hope is that he will return by the weekend, but there have not been any indications that this will happen. Stay tuned.

Los Angeles Dodgers – Team Update

This is good news for the Dodgers, as both Tony Gonsolin and Evan Phillips can provide additional depth for a team that could need it due to the injury history of their pitchers. Both players will need multiple appearances, but because Phillips is a reliever, his time to ramp up will likely be shorter. That being said, there is no timeline for either to return.

Edward Cabrera – SP Miami Marlins

Cabrera missed the start of the season with a blister on his right middle finger, but it looks like he is feeling better, as he was able to throw 46 pitches at the start of his rehab assignment. That’s already a substantial number for a first-time throwing, and it would appear that he is as close to making his 2025 debut as ever. Stay tuned after his rehab next start, because it could also be his final one.

Mike Tauchman – OF Chicago White Sox

Tauchman is recovering from a hamstring injury that he sustained during Spring Training. He got his rehab assignment off to a tremendous start and looks to be almost ready to join the White Sox, where he should receive everyday at-bats on a lineup in desperate need of hitting.
