This is the first edition of Dynasty Baseball Buys and Sells of the 2025 season. As anticipated, there have been some surprising and disappointing starts to the year. It’s still very early in the season, but there are some indicators to help determine if a player is worth buying or selling in dynasty leagues. Let’s take a look at some of the dynasty buys and sells.Â
Dynasty Baseball Buys
Alec Bohm, 3B, Philadelphia Phillies
Bohm has had a disastrous start to the season, to say the least. He is currently slashing .211/.235/.274 in 98 plate appearances. He has yet to homer and has only driven in six runs. Bohm also has an unsightly 0.06 BB/K ratio. The fact that he’s only drawn one walk in his first 23 games is highly concerning. It’s very easy to lose faith in Bohm after such a rough start to the season.
While he has struggled mightily, there is optimism for Bohm to get things turned around soon. Bohm is posting the highest hardhit percentage (51.8%) of his career, which ranks 29th in the majors. He is also putting up his best barrel percentage (7.8%) since his rookie year. Bohm is only striking out at an 18.4% clip, so that is not an issue. He has established himself as one of the premier RBI men in the game, driving in 97 runs in consecutive seasons. Bohm ranks in the top 15 in RBI (194) from 2023 to 2024. I would recommend Bohm as a strong dynasty baseball buy.
Dylan Cease, SP, San Diego Padres
Cease was one of the most dominant starting pitchers last year, compiling a 3.47 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 14 wins, and 224 strikeouts. However, he has posted an atrocious 6.04 ERA and 1.50 WHIP this season, while registering only one quality start in five opportunities. Cease has allowed 8 barreled balls this season, which is tied for 19th in the majors. His 10.7% barrel percentage is a career high.
Although he is allowing more barreled balls than ever, he has only allowed 0.71 HR/9, which is the fewest of his career. Cease has also displayed the best control we’ve yet to see out of him. His 2.84 BB/9 and 7.1% BB% both mark career lows. His .384 BABIP shows just how unlucky he has been and is bound to come down quite a bit. Cease’s LOB% of 56.8% is destined to rise as he’s never posted below a 68% LOB% in any season. His 3.35 SIERA certainly suggests he is a great dynasty baseball buy.
Dynasty Baseball Sells
Tyler Mahle, SP, Texas Rangers
Mahle essentially missed nearly all of 2023 and 2024 due to injuries, consequently making him pretty much an afterthought heading into this season. Despite being overlooked in drafts, Mahle has been one of the most successful fantasy pitchers so far this year. He has put up a microscopic 0.68 ERA and 0.83 WHIP in his first five starts. He ranks first in the majors in ERA and sixth in WHIP.
Nevertheless, Mahle has some major red flags in the early part of the season. He has a 90.9% LOB%, which is the fourth highest in the majors and not even remotely sustainable. Mahle’s .156 BABIP indicates some big regression is coming in the near future. His 4.10 SIERA is nearly 3.5 runs higher than his actual ERA, which spells disaster for Mahle. I consider him a priority dynasty baseball sell before the wheels fall off.Â
Mitchell Parker, SP, Washington Nationals
Like Mahle, Parker has been one of the most pleasant surprises among starting pitchers this season. He has won many fantasy owners over with a 1.39 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, and three wins across five starts. His ERA ranks in the top 10 in the majors, while his WHIP ranks in the top 15. Also, he’s only allowed one home run in 32 innings, which ranks fourth in HR/9.
Regardless of his pristine numbers, there are some disturbing trends with his underlying stats. Parker has a 7% K-BB%, which ranks 72nd out of 81 qualified pitchers. His .191 BABIP and 85% LOB% hint that bad news is on the horizon for Parker. His 4.76 SIERA demonstrates how lucky he has been to this point. Parker had a 4.15 ERA and 1.40 WHIP for his career in the minors, making it hard to trust him in the majors. I would advise treating him as a dynasty baseball sell.
