Welcome to the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Thursday, April 24, 2025. In today’s edition, we get major updates on players such as Blake Snell, Christopher Sanchez, and Grayson Rodriguez. That and so much more in today’s Injury Report from Fantrax.
MLB Injury Report
Blake Snell – SP Los Angeles Dodgers
Blake Snell was supposed to throw another bullpen this week in Chicago, but it was canceled after he still “didn’t feel great” in catch play yesterday, Dave Roberts said
Snell will get re-examined when the team returns home, but Roberts said he’s not concerned right now
— Jack Harris (@ByJackHarris) April 23, 2025
This is unfortunate news, as Snell was attempting to ramp himself back up through a series of bullpen sessions. Instead, he didn’t feel good after his last one, and came back telling the team of his issues. The team will take some time to give him the rest they think he needs to get back on track while also getting himself re-examined once their road trip is completed. This has an ominous tone to it, but chances are that he faces an extensive absence here, even if nothing new is discovered. They have stressed that their end goal is for a healthy rotation come the playoffs, so if they are going to get a certain amount of innings out of Snell this year, better make it later in the season than now.
Christopher Sanchez – SP Philadelphia Phillies
Thomson: Sánchez is feeling good. He wanted to play catch today. They told him to wait. No plans for an MRI. He could be bumped back a few days. He will play catch Friday. So, we’ll see.

What a difference a day makes, as Sanchez came to the stadium on Wednesday feeling nothing like he did the night before. There were reports that his entire body felt off yesterday, so there is a chance that it was one of those days and that he was just not himself. However, forearm soreness in a pitcher who is getting more movement on a ball while adding velocity is a dangerous combination. Time will tell, but Sanchez did say that he wanted to play catch yesterday. The team wouldn’t allow it and said that he could do it later in the week. Stay tuned.
Grayson Rodriguez – SP Baltimore Orioles
Grayson Rodriguez has a mild lat strain, Brandon Hyde said. He’s already feeling better, and he’ll start throwing again in a couple weeks.
All things considered, good news for Rodriguez, who was already rehabbing elbow inflammation.
“I’m trying to stay optimistic about it.”

The saga of Grayson Rodriguez continues, this time with an official diagnosis of a mild lat strain. This is not his first time suffering the injury, though everyone hopes that it is his last time. Still, the last time he suffered this exact injury, he missed two months in 2024. In addition to this, he was diagnosed with elbow inflammation not too long ago. He has a boatload of injuries, an extensive injury history, and continues to suffer setbacks when he throws. He is difficult to trust this season for much of anything, and it’s hard to envision when he will be ready to pitch again this season.
Zach Eflin – SP Baltimore Orioles
Zach Eflin (right lat strain) will throw a side session on either Friday or Saturday, per #Orioles manager Brandon Hyde
— Jake Rill (@JakeDRill) April 23, 2025
Good news here on Eflin, as he appears to be ready for a side session appearance this weekend. How he does there will help determine the next steps and if he is ready for a bullpen.
Edwin Diaz – RP New York Mets
Edwin Díaz explains why he exited the game in the 10th inning, chalking it up to cramps in his hip
He is not concerned at the moment about this being a problem moving forward pic.twitter.com/WLtznrAQxS
— SNY (@SNYtv) April 23, 2025
Diaz explained why he felt that his exit was due to cramping, stating that the trainers were working on his legs the day before this injury. He has one leg longer than the other, and the trainers were attempting to fix the issue. He just couldn’t lift his leg the way it was supposed to work, and as such, it was a case of mechanical issues with his own body. The hope is that he can return soon, because when healthy, he is one of baseball’s best closers.
Emmanuel Clase – RP Cleveland Guardians
When asked Tuesday night if Emmanuel Clase was healthy, Stephen Vogt said yes, but that the club wanted to give him a second straight day off.
Today, Vogt revealed Clase had shoulder discomfort after his outing Sunday. He played catch today and his availability today is TBD.
— Zack Meisel (@ZackMeisel) April 23, 2025
This is quite discouraging, but it could help explain why he has been struggling since the playoffs last year. Clase throws hard and has been near the top of the leaderboards in innings pitched and pitches thrown for relievers over the past few seasons. There is a lot of wear and tear on his body, and this could be it finally catching up to him. He did not play in yesterday’s game, though the opportunity never really arose. We should know more in the coming days. For now, go add Cade Smith if you can, and possibly Joey Cantillo.
Arizona Diamondbacks – Team Update
Not much from pregame availability today on A.J. Puk as they continue to gather information.
Torey Lovullo said he feels "strongly that today could be the day" for Justin Martinez.
— Alex Weiner (@alexjweiner) April 23, 2025
This was the piece of news that encapsulated both players of note, hence its usage here. First, AJ Puk is receiving multiple opinions on his elbow, which is likely an indication of either the first opinion being too extreme or that the team is unsure what they’re dealing with. Whatever the case, it’s serious enough to warrant additional help, making this a worrisome situation. As for Justin Martinez, he may be dealing with general soreness and overall fatigue here. Keep in mind that he throws incredibly hard and provides movement (or lack thereof) on his pitches like nobody else in baseball. He is a unicorn in the way he throws, and thus, he may need time to rest up. That said, he did pitch a scoreless inning last night, so he may be over it now.
Corey Seager – SS Texas Rangers
Corey Seager is going on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain. They expect it to be a short stay.
Veteran shortstop Nick Ahmed, who was re-signed a few weeks ago and has been working out at the facility in Arizona, will take his place on the roster.
— Shawn McFarland (@McFarland_Shawn) April 23, 2025
It feels like every year, something causes Seager to head to the Injured List. He is no stranger to hamstring strains, either, and this one will keep him away for at least ten days. Fantasy owners should watch updates throughout next week to ensure that he doesn’t need more than the minimum time away.
Ryan Pressly – RP Chicago Cubs
Cubs manager Craig Counsell said closer Ryan Pressly had his right knee drained on Tuesday night.
He hopes to have him available on Friday.
— Andy Martínez (@amartinez_11) April 24, 2025
This would help explain why he wasn’t used in a save situation last night. Hopefully, this is a minor ailment and he can return to being the team’s closer.
