Welcome to the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Wednesday, May 14, 2025. In today’s edition, Roki Sasaki heads to the Injured List for impingement in his shoulder. Also, Ronald Acuna appears ready to join Triple-A Gwinnett very soon, meaning that his rehab assignment could be fast-tracked. Finally, the back-end of the Rangers’ bullpen is a mess right now, after their two best options suffered injuries. All of that and so much more in today’s Injury Report from Fantrax.
MLB Injury Report
Roki Sasaki – SP Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers recalled RHP J.P. Feyereisen and placed RHP Roki Sasaki on the injured list with right shoulder impingement.
— Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) May 14, 2025
Fabian reported elsewhere that Sasaki was pitching off of five days’ rest, which is a normal amount of time off in between starts here in North America. However, in Japan, many pitchers would pitch once weekly, giving them additional time to rest between starts. It’s worth mentioning that he has had arm issues in the past, making this quite a concerning development here. The bad news is that shoulder impingement requires rest, and the severity of the issue will determine the length of rest. Even if it is a mild ailment, he will still need at least one week of pure rest just to let the shoulder heal itself. However, there is a chance that this is a multi-month absence if the impingement is serious. The team will undoubtedly give updates soon, but they are now scrambling for a replacement.
Clayton Kershaw – SP Los Angeles Dodgers
Dave Roberts said Clayton Kershaw will start on Saturday. #Dodgers #Angels

Be prepared!
Tyler Glasnow – SP Los Angeles Dodgers
Tyler Glasnow update from Dave Roberts:
"Tyler started a throwing progression. He'll continue to work toward a bullpen, and we'll have a more clear picture later this homestand. But he has started throwing a baseball."
— Matthew Moreno (@Matthew__Moreno) May 13, 2025
Glasnow was set to meet with Dr. Neal ElAttrache this week to get a better idea of what he would be able to do physically. It turns out that he is ready to start progressing toward a progression to throwing a bullpen session. And while he has started throwing a baseball, the team needs to learn from last year’s mistakes and not escalate things too quickly. That was a big reason as to why he was shut down last September while working toward a return.
Blake Snell – SP Los Angeles Dodgers
Blake Snell will see the doctor before today’s game, Roberts said.
“If it checks out well from an orthopedic standpoint, he'll initiate a throwing program on Wednesday.”
— Dodger Insider (@DodgerInsider) May 13, 2025
There were rumors of this meeting happening on Monday, but it would appear that only Glasnow saw the doctors then. The results for Snell will be interesting, but his status feels more shaky here, as he’s been unable to progress further without suffering a setback. He also hasn’t been healing as well as one would like. There is a significant chance that he winds up with an extended absence. Stay tuned, as we should know the results today.
Ronald Acuna – OF Atlanta Braves
Third at bat for Ronald Acuna Jr. and he goes yard. His first home run tonight. Just look at his smile!!.
IMO— he’s ready. #Braves #ForTheA #BravesCountry pic.twitter.com/Gjl8XbGfHJ— Alison Mastrangelo (@AlisonWSB) May 13, 2025
Keep in mind that this is one of the lowest levels of competition in baseball, with players significantly younger than him. That said, this was awesome to see. There were other reports of Acuna travelling with Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday, to begin a rehab assignment then. This sets up for him to join the team by the end of May, if all goes well. This goes completely against the initial talks of him slowing down his rehab once he’s cleared to not make the same mistakes he made with his first ACL injury. This all feels rushed, but that could also be a passive take on the situation.
Logan Gilbert – SP Seattle Mariners
Logan Gilbert threw about 25 pitches in his first full-fledged bullpen this afternoon. He ramped up the intensity for his final handful of throws and hit 94+ mph … with no discomfort, he said.
An important step forward for the M’s ace.
— Adam Jude (@A_Jude) May 13, 2025
Gilbert throwing at a high intensity with no discomfort is and will be a big deal, if he recovers well from this and doesn’t feel anything abnormal. If that’s the case, then it would appear that it’s full systems go here, giving the confidence for him to move forward with his progression. He has said that he’s felt great physically for a while now. Good news, but still something to monitor.
TJ Friedl – OF Cincinnati Reds
X-rays came back clean for TJ Friedl on his left wrist.
Terry Francona said he will get an MRI in the morning just to be on the safe side.#Reds | @FOX19
— Regan Holgate (@HolgateRegan) May 14, 2025
Friedl had himself a game that he would quickly like to forget. Not only was he hit in the left arm by a pitch, but he also later collided with Elly De La Cruz while tracking a pop-up. The good news is that it would appear that he escaped this unscathed, as the X-rays came back clean and free of injury. The team will do their due diligence and get an MRI to ensure all is well, but chances are he misses a day or two at most.
Corey Seager – SS Texas Rangers
The Rangers have placed Corey Seager back on the 10-Day IL due to a right hamstring strain.

— FOX Sports: MLB (@MLBONFOX) May 13, 2025
This was to be expected after aggravating this hamstring issue on the weekend while swinging. It remains to be seen if the injury is more significant than last time, but chances are his time away will be longer than the previous stint on the Injured List.
Texas Rangers – Team Update
Chris Martin enters the game for a save, faces one batter and exits with athletic trainer Matt Lucero. This comes 24 hours after Luke Jackson was struck by a line drive. Jackson is feeling better today but not available. #Rangers up 4-1 in the ninth but with no outs and runners…
— Jeff Wilson (@JeffWilsonTXR) May 14, 2025
It’s been a tough week for the Rangers and the back end of their bullpen. Chris Martin left after one pitch last night with what Bruce Bochy called elbow tightness. There weren’t many more details after the game, other than that, but the tone in Bochy’s voice made it sound rather ominous. As someone turning 39 in less than a month, if the circumstances are worst-case, we may have seen the last of Chris Martin. As for Luke Jackson, he felt better yesterday after being struck on the hand the day prior. He feels confident that he won’t need the Injured List. All that being said, if both of these men do need the Injured List, the next save situation could go to Robert Garcia or Jacob Webb. It’s hard to imagine the Rangers being comfortable with any of their choices. Be sure to follow the work of Fantrax writer Mike Carter for the best bullpen analysis in the business….not to mention he’s a great guy as well.
