Fantasy Football: Mock Draft from the 8th Slot

The mock draft series will feature four more articles, starting with this one. This mock draft will be from the 8th spot in a 12-team mock draft, the same format as the past. There will be one QB, two RBs, two WRs, one TE, and two FLEXs. This is my favorite mock that I have done with two familiar faces from previous drafts. Let’s begin!

What!? Your fantasy football league wasn’t hosted on Fantrax last season!? Once you see how Fantrax stacks up to the competition, we think you’ll be singing a different tune in the 2025 season.

Mock Draft from the 8th Slot

1.08 – Malik Nabers

Malik Nabers can very well be the best WR in the NFL after ONE season. The New York Giants’ WR had the highest target share % as a rookie with 34.9%. The Giants did not add any weapons, either. Nabers also had 170 targets and was the WR6 on a PPG basis. The videos from the Giants’ off-season camp show Russell Wilson and Nabers’ connection already in sync before Week 1 kicks off. I believe Nabers can be selected with a top-five pick because of his lethal abilities and the limited competition he faces. Getting him with the 8th pick is a blessing. I have found myself drafting Nabers in most mock drafts with a late pick.

2.05 – De’Von Achane

De’Von Achane’s first two NFL seasons have seen him be the RB6 and the RB5 on a ppg basis. Being able to draft him in the second round is from how much people crave drafting a WR at the end of the first round. In a draft where you can draft Nabers and Achane with your first two picks, it is the making of an epic fantasy squad. Achane averages around seven targets per game with Tua Tagovailoa under center, too. He was number one in receiving yards and receptions among running backs and had the second highest target share % for the position in 2024.

3.08 – Tee Higgins

Tee Higgins’ 17-game pace last season was good for a top-five WR on a PPG basis. The Cincinnati Bengals have had a bottom-10 defense since drafting Joe Burrow, but a top-five offense. The Bengals will continue to pass at a high volume once again in 2025. Playing alongside Ja’Marr Chase takes all the pressure off Higgins. Higgins, if healthy, will be a WR1 in 2025 and is a perfect pairing with Nabers and Achane as your first three picks. This is the most risky pick in this mock draft, but in an elite offense, it is worth the risk.

4.05 – Jalen Hurts

I have said this a lot. If you wait on your second RB, draft a rushing QB. Mine will always be Jalen Hurts. He is behind one of the best offensive lines, and the tush push is unstoppable. Hurts is locked in for double-digit touchdowns once again in 2025. Not only do I think the Eagles will pass more in 2025, which is a positive for Hurts, but they will also get to the red zone countless times, which in turn, will lead to scoring opportunities for Hurts. Hurts is one of my favorite picks in mock drafts.

5.08 – Jameson Williams

Jameson Williams’ numbers have gone up each of his three seasons in the NFL. Last season, he had 1,001 yards and eight touchdowns on just 58 receptions. With more routes and more receptions, Williams has all the makings to be a top-15 WR in 2025. Ben Johnson might be gone, but the talent in the Detroit Lions’ offense still remains. Drafting Williams in rounds five or six is tremendous value. Williams is a fan favorite in mock drafts and should be one for you, too.

6.05 – T.J. Hockenson

Justin Jefferson is dealing with a hamstring injury. Jordan Addison will be suspended for the first three games of the season. This will leave T.J. Hockenson as the prime target for the Minnesota Vikings and first-year starter, J.J. McCarthy. Hockenson is well past his ACL injury and will look to jump back into the top-five TE discussions in 2025.

7.08 – Brian Robinson

Robinson has had 17 touchdowns the past two years combined. He is a candidate to see double-digit touchdowns in 2025 in an offense led by Jayden Daniels. Selecting him as your RB2 with a team that has Hurts and Achane is a perfect fit.

8.05 – Rome Odunze

Rome Odunze is a second-year WR who is a prime choice to have a breakout. You add his talent, his QB, Caleb Williams, and now having Ben Johnson run the offense, drafting him as your WR3 is a STEAL in 2025. I think there is a real chance that Odunze becomes the Bears’ WR1 this upcoming season. I find myself drafting Odunze in most of my mock drafts and with good reasoning, too. It is his time to break out.
