MLB Injury Report
Trevor Megill – RP Milwaukee Brewers
Good news for the Brewers: Trevor Megill’s bullpen went well and he’s on a path to being active by Sept. 16, per Pat Murphy.
Bad news (*really* bad news) for the Brewers: Another reliever is about to be placed on the IL. Murph was not yet prepared to say who.

Fantastic news here for Megill, who vowed to return within the minimum fifteen days allotted for pitching injuries when he got injured. He has done everything in his power to follow up on those words, and yesterday’s bullpen was a step in the right direction. He will need to be symptom-free the day(s) after this session, but overall, it’s looking good. The hope is that he doesn’t push himself too much now and risk further injury down the road. That seems to be what happened to teammate Shelby Miller, who is out for the season. As for the other bullpen arm, it’s hard to know who that is, but it feels like anyone who pitched today could be ruled out, unless they were pulled earlier than expected.
Christian Yelich – OF Milwaukee Brewers
Pat Murphy on Christian Yelich: “I think it's pretty common for someone who had back surgery that at some point due to wear and tear, you're going to have that flare up again of stiffness and soreness and that type of thing. We've been assured that it's nothing more than that.”
— Adam McCalvy (@AdamMcCalvy) September 4, 2025
Fingers crossed that this is the case, and that the Brewers aren’t trying to will this sentiment into existence. He will be a necessary player for them if they have any chance of advancing in the playoffs.
Will Smith – C Los Angeles Dodgers
Will Smith is going for a CT scan right now. “Probably unlikely” he plays this weekend. Ben Rortvedt will be active and they will keep all three catchers active for now. https://t.co/Nd5MSlj6xm
— Fabian Ardaya (@FabianArdaya) September 4, 2025
The injury could be serious enough, as the Dodgers called upon Ben Rortvedt from the taxi squad to at least be there with the team. In order to make that happen, they DFA’d Alexis Diaz, so this isn’t an insignificant move. As for Smith, we should know more in the coming days. Fantasy players may want a backup plan.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. – 3B New York Yankees
Jazz Chisholm Jr. said he'd been treating his knees since he came out of the game and that he wants to play tomorrow.
Said Yankees had tests done of them and that they checked out OK.
— Brendan Kuty 🧟♂️ (@BrendanKutyNJ) September 5, 2025
Sounds like an awful night for Chisholm, who was forced to leave the game early. Because it’s a contusion, chances are a quick absence is in play here. The team should offer updates on his availability for today’s game soon. For now, fantasy players should breathe a collective sigh of relief.
Spencer Arrighetti – SP Houston Astros
The Astros are still waiting on Spencer Arrighetti’s MRI results but given the timing a return during the regular season is unlikely, Joe Espada said.
— Matt Kawahara (@matthewkawahara) September 4, 2025
All of this makes sense, given that we are in the beginning of September, and the Astros are running out of time (like all other teams) to bring back injured players. Keep a close tab on the type of injury here, because if it’s something that should require an extensive absence and/or surgery, and he decides to use the offseason to rest the situation, he could be an early 2026 candidate to return to the Injured List once he starts ramping things up. There have been many instances before where players hope that months of rest will heal their ailment, but it’s the untreated injury that can hurt later on.
Seth Lugo – SP Kansas City Royals
Seth Lugo is headed to the 15-day IL with low back tightness. Came out for catch today and didn’t feel any improvement, so he’ll need more rest.
Stephen Kolek is expected to return to the big leagues and make Saturday’s start, manager Matt Quatraro said.
— Anne Rogers (@anne__rogers) September 4, 2025
Lugo had his start pushed back to tomorrow because of back tightness, but because it didn’t dissipate this week, the plan now is to give him fifteen days to heal. The move is retroactive to September 1, meaning he could be back by the beginning of the week after next. Stay tuned for updates, as any setback could mean that he is finished for the season.
Cole Ragans – SP Kansas City Royals

Huge day here for Cole Ragans, who was able to successfully throw 30 pitches across two simulated innings. While how he feels in the coming days will determine the next steps, this was a big step in the right direction. The Royals may ask for him to do something similar with a higher pitch total before starting a rehab assignment, but the fact remains that he seems poised to begin said rehab soon enough. There is still an outside chance that he helps fantasy players with at least two starts before the season ends.
Ryan Jeffers – C Minnesota Twins
Ryan Jeffers was diagnosed with a head contusion, Rocco Baldelli said. He’ll be evaluated again Friday, but positive news so far.
— Bobby Nightengale (@nightengalejr) September 5, 2025
So far, so good for Jeffers, who took a foul ball off his mask in last night’s game. The hope is that a contusion is where it ends for the backstop, though he will likely need to be tested for a concussion nonetheless. Fingers crossed.
Pablo Lopez – SP Minnesota Twins
Though it’s not yet official, Pablo López will start for the #MNTwins on Friday in Kansas City, his first #MLB start since June 3.
