Welcome to the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Monday, September 8, 2025. In today’s report, the Philies will be waiting on pins and needles for the results of Trea Turner’s MRI, the Royals were happy with the results of Bobby Witt Jr.’s MRI, and both Kyle Tucker and Christian Yelich have yet to return despite long absences. MLB Injury Report
Trea Turner – SS Philadelphia Phillies
Trea Turner says he will have an MRI. He says he is a little sore. He says it’s hopefully not as bad as last year‘s strained hamstring when he missed 6 weeks. This would be a huge loss for the Phillies. He leads the NL in hits and a 305 batting average. https://t.co/vk21yGQtGO
— John Clark (@JClarkNBCS) September 7, 2025
This is concerning, and the Phillies have every right to feel the same. Last season, Turner missed six weeks with a hamstring strain, and he came back earlier than expected to do that. If he misses six weeks now, that could mean he won’t return until deep in the playoffs. The results of this MRI have a massive effect on the future of this team, the National League East, and the World Series.
Bobby Witt Jr. – SS Kansas City Royals
Manager Matt Quatraro said nothing else popped up today on Bobby Witt Jr.'s MRI, so now it's about waiting for the spasms to subside and Witt's back to loosen up enough to play. That's what Royals were hoping to hear, now they'll see how Witt feels tomorrow.
— Anne Rogers (@anne__rogers) September 7, 2025
This is in case there were worries about Witt’s absence this weekend: don’t be. It seems highly unlikely that he will miss time on the Injured List. Instead, another day or two could be in the works, but other than that, Witt should be out there in no time. Everyone can breathe a collective sigh of relief here for one of the game’s best.
Samuel Basallo – C Baltimore Orioles
Kremer’s MRI came back clean, he’ll likely skip one start.
Basallo’s x ray was negative
— Danielle Allentuck (@d_allentuck) September 7, 2025
Basallo took a foul ball off his hand in the same game where he also fouled a ball off his knee, so the odds of him returning this past weekend were slim. The good news is that all X-rays were clean, and a serious injury appears to have been avoided. With nothing to play for but the future, expect the team to take things slowly here, but he should be back soon.
Christian Yelich – OF Milwaukee Brewers
Christian Yelich confirmed that yesterday’s swings went well and offered a “we’ll see” when asked if he could pinch-hit today.
This concludes your daily Christian Yelich update. https://t.co/6jkmv5zSaH
— Adam McCalvy (@AdamMcCalvy) September 7, 2025
The good news here is that Yelich was able to take some swings and everything seemed to work out for him physically. The bad news is that the Brewers, without him in the lineup, still had a tremendous day yesterday, and as such, they may not rush him back. Their end goal is success in October, so if they can withstand his presence now to be healthy later, they’ll do that if it doesn’t hurt their overall place in the standings.
Miguel Vargas – 3B Chicago White Sox

Good news here for the White Sox, as Vargas will get a chance to continue growing this season and build toward next. He’s had his ups and downs this year, but a solid September will go a long way.
Kyle Tucker – OF Chicago Cubs
Craig Counsell on injured Cubs OFs, Kyle Tucker and PCA: "I don't think Tucker will be in the lineup tomorrow. I think we're starting to approach availability, though. I think, [with] Pete, we'll see how he's doing tomorrow and make a lineup decision on that tomorrow."
— Ryan Herrera (@ryan_a_herrera) September 7, 2025
The team was adamant on Saturday that they would take the long road and wait this out. Tucker was seen moving on the field nd doing drills pregame, but he didn’t make an appearance this weekend. With him missing today’s game, the Cubs need to make a decision here. That said, they’ve done this before (Hoerner in 2024), where they just allow the injury to heal without a trip to the Injured List, so that’s what could be happening here with expanded rosters.
Danny Palencia – RP Chicago Cubs
Cubs closer Danny Palencia, after giving up 5 runs in the 9th, is being tested for tightness in his posterior right shoulder.
— Bob Nightengale (@BNightengale) September 7, 2025
Palencia had himself a day to forget. After getting shelled for five runs, the team announced that he was getting tested for tightness in his posterior right shoulder. This injury could help explain why he was inexplicably off, as he had been so reliable for so long. Brad Keller figures to get some looks as the team’s closer in the meantime. Stay tuned.
Ryan Jeffers – C Minnesota Twins
Twins have placed C Ryan Jeffers on concussion list and recalled IF Carson McCusker from AAA St. Paul.
In addition, they have designated RHP Brooks Kriske for assignment and recalled RHP Pierson Ohl.
— Phil Miller (@MillerStrib) September 7, 2025
It’s an unfortunate development if you were relying on Jeffers in two-catcher leagues, as he was having himself a solid season that featured consistent playing time. It’s unclear if this will be a season-ending ailment, but with so little time left in the season, fantasy players would be wise to look elsewhere.
Byron Buxton – OF Minnesota Twins
Byron Buxton left the game with a left knee contusion after getting hit by a pitch in the 5th.
— Audra Martin (@Audra_Martin) September 7, 2025
There wasn’t much information regarding the extent of this injury after the game, but the team will undoubtedly send updates throughout the day. However, they do travel from Kansas City to Los Angeles, which could limit the amount of healing needed for a return. Stay tuned.
Los Angeles Angels – Team Update
Ray Montgomery said Jo Adell was feeling nauseous.
He said O’Hoppe seems OK but he’s still going to get tested for a concussion. https://t.co/nnc1eoU132
— Jeff Fletcher (@JeffFletcherOCR) September 7, 2025
Jo Adell left early Sunday, and now we know why. Consider him DTD for now, as he should be back soon enough. As for Logan O’Hoppe, the real news will be once we find out if he is cleared for a concussion or if he needs additional time away, which could include a trip to the 7-Day Concussion Injured List. Hopefully, the team provides some clarity before lineups lock.
Los Angeles Dodgers – Team Update
Dave Roberts said Max Muncy and Alex Vesia are expected to be active tomorrow, with Tommy Edman at some point after that.
Plan is for Tyler Glasnow to start a game in the Rockies series.
— Fabian Ardaya (@FabianArdaya) September 7, 2025
These returns could make things difficult for fantasy players rostering Dodgers players who could be on the bubble for a demotion. When setting lineups, it might be wise to look elsewhere.
St. Louis Cardinals – Tea, Update
Brendan Donovan and Nolan Arenado will both take live BP at Busch Stadium on Monday.
Donovan could start rehab assignment Tuesday. Place TBD.
Arenado will repeat live BP on Tuesday with some Class A Peoria players in town. Then he will aim to start rehab Wednesday.
— Derrick Goold (@dgoold) September 7, 2025
Big news here for the Cardinals, with both Brendan Donovan and Nolan Arenado beginning rehab assignments. With the Cardinals playing for next year, it feels like the team does not need to fast-track them back sooner than they need to be.
Alex Burleson – 1B St. Louis Cardinals
Alec Burleson expected back in lineup Monday at Seattle. He’s going through final tests today and getting all clear for return from IL. https://t.co/tgzTQIdt9i
