Week 2 NFL DFS: Money Makers and Heart Breakers

Week 1 is in the books, and what a strange week it was. Many players we thought would produce didn’t, and other guys we expected to fail went crazy. Aaron Rodgers was one of those guys who went crazy. I think I hate you, A-A-Ron Rodgers, I really might. So I have to put out there the 10 things I hate about you.

10 Things I Hate About Aaron Rodgers

  1. I hate the way you talk to the media
Every press conference feels like a TED Talk mixed with a conspiracy theory podcast. Yet somehow, I still tune in.
  2. I hate the way you cut your hair
Man-bun, slick-back, grizzled ponytail—you’ve had more hairstyles than touchdown passes in Week 1. But somehow, they all scream: “I’m still that guy.”
  3. I hate the way you run a drive down the field
Precision. Poise. Back-foot lasers. You make it look easy, and I hate that my fantasy opponent reaps the rewards.
  4. I hate the way you look at Jonnu Smith with that stare
It’s not just a read—it’s a declaration. The ball is going there, we all know it, and yet defenses still can’t stop it.
  5. I hate your big, dumb peyote-smoking head
Ayahuasca retreats, darkness caves, UFO theories—yet that brain still dissects defenses better than anyone else’s.
  6. I hate the way you read a defense
Disguise the blitz? You sniff it out. Drop eight? You carve it up. It’s like you’ve got the cheat codes.
  7. I hate that you’re good for fantasy again
I swore I was done. I told myself I’d never draft you again. But here I am, plugging you in and I am not sure how I feel about it.
  8. I hate the fact that you still throw TDs
Effortless flicks of the wrist, red zone darts—it’s annoying how inevitable it feels.
  9. I hate the way you make Pat McAfee laugh
That show became your personal brand of chaos, and I still can’t look away.
  10. I hate, even more, the way you make Jets fans cry
For a franchise defined by misery, you were both the hope and now you are the heartbreak.

I hate that you’re still around. I hate that you didn’t fail. I hate the way you’re supposed to be washed… but aren’t. But mostly, I hate the way I don’t hate you at all. Not even close. Not even a little bit. Not even at all.

Now let’s get to the Money Makers and Heart Breakers you are really here for.

Here is a brief definition of each of my terms for anyone that might be new:

💰 Money Maker – This player will perform better than expectations

💔 Heart Breaker – This player will perform lower than expectations

💰 Week 2 Money Makers

Quarterbacks

Jalen Hurts

Kansas City gave up 318 yards and 3 touchdowns in Week 1 to Justin Herbert. It doesn’t get any easier for the Chiefs’ defense this week against Hurts. Hurts can do it on the ground; he had 62 yards and 2 touchdowns rushing in Week. Hurts can also air it out. I expect Hurts to pass a bit more in Week 2.

Justin Fields

Fields had a massive Week 1 against the Steelers, passing for 1 touchdown and rushing for 2 others. The Bills gave up a big game to Lamar Jackson in Week 1. Look for Fields to pass a little and run a little as he gets it done to keep the Jets in the game against the Bills.

$7,600 on FanDuel

Drake Maye

If Danny Jones can destroy the Dolphins’ defense in Week 1, then Drake Maye can do the same in Week 2. Jones looked like a stud quarterback last week, posting 272 yards and 3 total touchdowns. Maye gives you a a guy that could put up top 5 quarterback numbers in Week 2. Yes, the Dolphins’ defense is that bad.

Running Backs

James Conner

Last week I had Travis Etienne in this same spot going against the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers stink at defending the run. Etienne had 143 rushing yards. I would expect to see Conner run and run some more in Week 2. Conner split touches with Try Benson but Conner was on the field for 65% of the snaps. This guy seems to silently produce fantasy points season after season. He will for you in Week 2.

$6,600 on DraftKings
$7,700 on FanDuel

Christian McCaffrey

CMC had 31 touches in Week 1 and produced a great fantasy day. In Week 2 he should see massive volume and a high touch count again as it seems everyone on the Niners is getting hurt. McCaffrey will run, catch, and run some more against the Saints in Week 2.

$8,900 on FanDuel

Kyren Williams

I like Kyren Williams more than you do. It doesn’t matter who you are; I like him as much as his mom does. Kyren will run the ball a bit on the Titans for sure. He should catch a few passes as well. The Rams will most likely game script this to a defense and run the ball on offense game. The Titans are not very good. Run, Kyren Run.

Wide Receivers

AJ Brown

Week 1 for AJ Brown can be summed up in one word: YUCK. The Chiefs’ defense gave up a lot of yards and touchdowns to wide receivers in Week 1. You can pretend his 1 target, 1 reception for 8 yards didn’t happen. This is a great week to play him, in what appears to be a good match-up for the Eagles to pass the ball a lot. AJ Brown bounces back in Week 2.

$6,600 on DraftKings
$7,500 on FanDuel

Cedric Tillman

I am very serious about playing Tillman in Week 2. If he is out there in your redraft league, add him now, too. The Ravens were picked apart by the Bills’ passing game in Week 1. Tillman had a 17% target share in Week 1. He was also on the field for 88% of the snaps. Flacco looks for him, and Tillman delivers. Great spot for him to do it again in Week 2 against the Ravens.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba

JSN led the Seahawks in targets with 13. That was an amazing 56.5% target share. The volume will be there for JSN. The Steelers are the opponent in Week 2. In Week 1, Garrett Wilson had 95 yards and a touchdown against them. The sky is the limit for Jaxon as he will be fed the ball over and over. What a time to be alive.

Tight Ends

Jonnu Smith

The Steelers play the Seahawks in Week 2. The Seahawks gave up 2 touchdowns to 2 different Niner tight ends in Week 1. Smith had 6 targets which he turned in 5 receptions, 15 yards and a touchdown in Week 1. Expect the Steelers to be creative With Smith in the red zone. Sneaky play for you in Week 2.

$3,900 on DraftKings
$5,400 on FanDuel

Trey McBride

The Cardinals play the lowly Panthers in Week 2. McBride led the Cardinals in targets with 9 in Week 1. That was a 31% target share. Kyler Murray will continue to look for him in Week 2. The passing tree is nice and small in Arizona. With 2 players having 51% of the total targets in McBride and Marvin Harrison Jr. Have pride with McBride.

Defense

Rams

The Rams play the Titans in Week 2. The Titans gave up 6 sacks to the Broncos in Week 1. The Rams have a very good defense themselves as they had 3 sacks in Week 1. Look for some takeaways by the Rams and expect them to get to Cam Ward, repeatedly.

$3,100 on DraftKings
$4,500 on FanDuel

Patriots

The Patriots? They stink. You know who else stinks, the Dolphins. The Patriots can get after the quarterback as they had 4 sacks in Week 1. The Dolphins’ offensive line looks like a turnstile in the subway at rush hour. Patriot will take you to at least 10 fantasy points this week.

$3,800 on DraftKings
$4,400 on FanDuel

Colts

The Colts’ defense is good. They had 3 sacks, 2 interceptions, and a fumble recovery in Week 1. The Broncos, meanwhile, coughed up the ball 4 times with 2 interceptions and 2 fumbles. Colts D comes up big in Week 2.

$2,600 on DraftKings
$4,000 on FanDuel

💔Week 2 Heart Breakers

Quarter Backs

Matthew Stafford

The Rams play the Titans in Week 2. You don’t have to pass much on the Titans. This looks like a game where the Rams get up and just run all over the Titans. Play calling just means so much to fantasy production.

Spencer Rattler

Spencer Rattler draws a tough matchup in Week 2 against a strong 49ers defense. With several of San Francisco’s top skill players sidelined, expect the Niners to slow things down and turn this game into more of a grind-it-out slugfest. Sometimes the call is obvious, and this one is just that, an easy fade. Yuck.

Daniel Jones

Daniel Jones was a heartbreaker last week, but he also reminded us just how incredible he can be when everything clicks. This week, the challenge gets tougher with a Broncos defense that’s miles ahead of what the Dolphins put on the field. Still, I’m keeping Danny Dimes on the radar. And let’s be honest—I’m secretly rooting for a shootout between the Colts and Broncos.

Running Backs

D’Andre Swift

The Lions’ defense is strong against the run, which makes this a tricky matchup for D’Andre Swift. Even so, in season-long leagues, he should remain in your lineup this week. However, I wouldn’t be targeting him in DFS. Yes, Swift played well in Week 1, but his limited volume was concerning and that issue could surface again in Week 2. Looking ahead though, I do believe things will improve for Swift as the season progresses.

Tony Pollard

Pollard had 89 total yards in Week 1. I expect much the same from him in Week 2 against the Rams. The Titans just aren’t very good. I don’t know what else I could say.

De’Von Achane

The Patriots’ defense is legit, and the Dolphins’ offense is… not. That offensive line might be the worst in the NFL right now, and it shows. For fantasy purposes, the only Miami player I’d even consider starting this week is De’Von Achane and even then, expectations should be tempered.

Wide Receivers

Zay Flowers

The Ravens’ offense is one that spreads the ball around. Flowers is a boom or bust player. Zay really flowered in Week 1. The problem is that it doesn’t happen for him every week, as Lamar Jackson will simply throw the ball to whoever is open. This is what the Ravens offense does: spread the ball around passing and run a lot.

DK Metcalf

Metcalf managed 84 yards in Week 1. Metcalf saw four targets in Week 1. Jonnu Smith had a team-leading 5 targets. Metcalf was tied for second on the team with 4 targets. Metcalf will probably need a touchdown to give you what you want in fantasy.

Michael Pittman Jr.

The Broncos held Ridley in Check in Week 1. In Week 2, the Colts play the Broncos. The pass defense of this Broncos defense is good. Pittman may very well not see the opportunities he saw in Week 1.

Tight Ends

Sam LaPorta

LaPorta looked pretty good in Week 1. 9 targets, 6 receptions, and 9 yards. I could be very wrong about having him as a heartbreaker. I simply think the Lions will look to get it going with Jahmy Gibbs and Amon-Ra St. Brown. There are too many mouths to feed in Detroit.

Noah Fant

Fant doesn’t have much volume with only 4 targets in Week 1. Fant needs a touchdown to be relevant in Fantasy every week. I can feel the throw up in the back of my mouth just thinking of playing him this week.
