NFL DFS Late Slate Picks Week 2

Welcome back, all of you people who swore they’d “never play fantasy again” after Week 1 but are now tinkering with their lineups at 2 a.m. It’s Week 2, and that means we’ve officially entered overreaction season.

But don’t worry, that’s why I’m here. This is Late Slate, where we dig into the Sunday late game matchups that could save your week, and at the very least, end your fantasy football week feeling better about yourself. Week 1 brought us a lot of chaos and showed us how uncertain the first week of the season always is. Week 2 might not be much better, but things will start to level out after this week.

So grab a snack, buckle in, and let’s dive into the Week 2 Late Slate. And remember, it’s not losing if you call it “gathering data for next week.”

NFL DFS: Week 1 Late Slate Picks

Quarterbacks

Jalen Hurts

The Chiefs’ defense had a rough start, surrendering 318 yards and three touchdowns to Justin Herbert in Week 1. Now, things don’t get any easier as they face Jalen Hurts. Not only can Hurts beat defenses through the air, but he’s also a nightmare on the ground, already posting 62 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the opener. Expect him to lean on his arm a bit more in Week 2, while still carrying that elite rushing upside that makes him a locked-in QB1.

Patrick Mahomes

In Week 1, Mahomes passed for 258 yards and a touchdown; he also ran for another 5 yards and a touchdown. He is going up against an Eagles defense that looked pretty good in Week 1 against the Cowboys. For me, he is a somewhat sneaky play this week as I think he has to post numbers to keep the Chiefs in the game.

Daniel Jones

Jones feasted in Week 1 with lots of stats against a bad Dolphins team. Danny Dimes passed for 22 yards and a touchdown and ran in 2 more scores. The Broncos are up in Week 2 and have a much tougher defense. But Jones has the best group of receivers he has ever played with, and Jonathan Taylor as a running back. He is going to put up some numbers again in Week 2

Running Backs

Saquon Barkley

In Week 1, Barkley had 60 yards and a touchdown rushing, and another 24 yards receiving. The Eagles’ offensive line is great and creates all kinds of holes for Barkley. The Eagles are playing against the Chiefs, who have a stout defense against the run, but this is Barkley. I would expect him to be more involved as a receiver in Week 2. If you want to pay up for Barkley at RB, Barkley is your guy.

James Conner

Last week, Travis Etienne gashed the Panthers’ run defense for 143 rushing yards, and there’s no reason to think James Conner can’t deliver similar results in Week 2. Carolina continues to struggle against the ground game, and while Conner did split touches with Trey Benson, he still logged 65% of the snaps. That kind of usage is more than enough for him to do damage. Conner has made a career out of quietly producing steady fantasy points year after year, and this week should be no different he’s a strong RB2 with upside. I like any running back playing the Panthers

Isaiah Pacheco

If you are playing in the Late Slate, you need to plug someone in with upside. Pacheco has that. Lots of people are down on him right now. The Chiefs are playing the Eagles. Last week, Javonte Williams ran in 2 touchdowns against the Eagles. Pacheco also has that kind of upside in Week 2.

JK Dobbins

Dobbins led the team in running back snaps in Week 1 with 53%. He also led the team in running back touches with 18. He turned that in a total of 68 yards and a touchdown. The Colts’ defense is up in Week 2. This game has the look of 2 teams that are better than we thought they would be hammering each other. Look for Dobbins to punch another touchdown in Week 2.

Wide Receivers

AJ Brown

Week 1 for AJ Brown can be summed up in 1 word: YUCK. The Chiefs’ defense gave up a lot of yards and touchdowns to wide receivers in Week 1. You can pretend his 1 target, 1 reception for 8 yards didn’t happen. This is a great week to play him, in what appears to be a good match-up for the Eagles to pass the ball a lot. AJ Brown bounces back in Week 2.

Courtland Sutton

As expected, Sutton led the Broncos in targets with 9 in Week 1. That was a 22.5% target share. He will continue leading the team in Targets in Week 2 against the Colts. He only had 61 yards and a touchdown, but it was a game the Broncos were in control of throughout. This week, I expect more scoring from the Colts, which means the Broncos will also need to score.

Hollywood Brown

Volume is king in fantasy football. In Week 1, after Xavier Worthy got injure,d Brown saw 16 targets. That was a massive 41% target share of Mahomes’ passes. Hollywood turned that into 10 receptions for 99 yards. The Chiefs will be passing to stay in this game against the Eagles in Week 2. Expect another huge target share for Hollywood.

Juju Smith-Schuster

You want a sneaky play for Week 2? Here it is. Juju. In Week 1, he was second on the Chiefs in targets with 5. Juju caught all 5 of those targets for 55 yards. There is nothing overly sexy about this play. But if you want a guy that has a 10-point floor this week, look no further than Juju.

Tetairoa McMillan

The Panthers’ offense looked bad. Real bad. There was 1 bright spot, and it was McMillan. Tet had a 26% target share in Week 1, which was 9 total targets. He turned that into 5 receptions for 68 yards. I would expect him to see most of the Panther targets again in Week 2 against the Cardinals. Volume is good; he will have volume.

Tight Ends

Trey McBride

The Cardinals get a soft matchup in Week 2 against the Panthers, and Trey McBride is set up to shine once again. In Week 1, he led the team with nine targets, good for a massive 31% target share. With Arizona’s passing tree condensed almost entirely to McBride and Marvin Harrison Jr. (who combined for 51% of the team’s targets), Kyler Murray’s top tight end should continue to see steady volume. McBride is locked in as a high-floor TE1so yes, have pride with McBride..

Tyler Warren

Warren is very good. How good is the rookie tight end? Well, in Week 1, Daniel Jones targeted Warren 9 times. He turned that into receptions and 6 yards. The Broncos’ defense is much better than the Dolphins but it appears Warren is a big part of the Colts passing attack and will be utilized as such. He led the Colts in targets in Week 1; do not be surprised if he does it in Week 2 as well.

DEF

Colts

The Colts’ defense came out strong in Week 1, racking up three sacks, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery. Meanwhile, the Broncos were sloppy with the football, turning it over four times (two picks and two fumbles). That’s a recipe for fantasy production, and it sets the Colts up as a sneaky strong play in Week 2. Expect this defense to come up big again.
