Week 5 is pivotal for making trades in dynasty. Managers are panicking about players, especially rookies who are not producing. These same managers are also considering trades and the direction they want to take, whether it’s rebuilding or contending. Peak trade season is right around the corner, and the best thing you can do is be prepared. Below are tips for both rebuilders and contenders as we head into Week 5.

Dynasty Football Trades to Consider Entering Week 5
Rebuilders
Check in on Malik Nabers (New York Giants)
Potentially competing rosters took a huge hit this past weekend, as Malik Nabers is now out for the season after tearing his ACL. Now, from personal experience, it won’t be easy to trade for him in dynasty. However, if you have some competing pieces or are looking to shed points. Say like Amon Ra-St. Brown or Nico Collins, plus an addition like an early second-round pick, could get a deal done. Every league is different, but if something like Rome Odunze and Tucker Kraft would get it done, I would also rush to make that deal. Those are just ballpark offers, but it never hurts to check. If you have the pieces, this will likely be the easiest Naber to acquire for a long time.
Trade for disappointing rookies
Look, everyone is looking for instant production. Omarion Hampton, Ashton Jeanty, Tyler Warren, Tetairoa McMillan, and Emeka Egbuka have all provided production in the first four weeks of the season. Although it hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows for rookie picks. Sure, we are seeing players like Woody Marks emerge, which is encouraging. However, what about those who have drafted Colston Loveland, Travis Hunter, or Terrance Ferguson? Those managers can’t be too happy.
That can especially be said for those who drafted Kaleb Johnson. Johnson has not been able to get on the field as a first-round rookie pick. Now, you can acquire him for a late second-round pick. I recommend waiting to trade for Johnson, as his value will likely continue to decrease as the season progresses. When managers start considering thirds, that is when I will consider making a move.
The panic meter is starting to rise when it comes to some of these rookies. Now I would deploy patience when it comes to these players, except Hunter, whose panic meter is probably the highest for me. Jacksonville does not have a concrete plan for him, and hopefully, the next few weeks will start to paint the picture after they get through their bye week in Week 8.
Increased Rookie Usage
Speaking of bye weeks, rookies typically see a bump in usage after their bye weeks. The rookies on their bye weeks include Colston Loveland, Luther Burden III, Matthew Golden, and Kaleb Johnson. Golden is the safest of the bunch, as his role has increased over the past few weeks. He caught five passes against the Dallas Cowboys for 58 yards. I would move a player like Travis Etienne for him.
The Bears duo is more complex. Loveland missed the last game with a hip injury. And Burden III had that long reception on the flea flicker against the Dallas Cowboys. However, he has struggled to maintain a role outside of that. If I can acquire either for a second-round pick with some added value, I would consider making that trade. And would happily trade a contending piece for either of them. These rookies are getting involved to an extent, but they figure to make an even bigger impact and see their value increase down the line. These three are all great trade targets while waiting for Johnson’s value to decrease some more.
Contenders
Look for Aging Veterans
If you haven’t already, scout the other teams in your league and see who is losing. Look at those teams for players like Davante Adams, Josh Jacobs, Courtland Sutton, and George Kittle. Odds are, some of those teams are struggling and want to trade.
And now is the perfect time to make the call and push some of those chips in. That way, you have the edge on your league mates, as most teams are still in their decision phases. Trading for older players on struggling teams is a crucial key to success in dynasty. Sometimes they just want to trade away those potential points to improve draft position. So, get out there and do some scouting on this fine Thursday before the game.

Taking the Value
This advice comes in response to dealing away a piece or two on a contending team. If the value is truly there and it helps your team, do not be afraid to make the trade. You can always trade those picks or players later on if you are getting a good deal. I see some contenders shy away from that as they do not want to lose points.
And while I understand that argument, if a good deal is sent your way, hit the accept button and do not look back. This line of thinking applies to most players who are not part of the elite tier. Experience playing in leagues over the years has helped me with that.
I also look back on some of the trades I have turned down and shake my head. However, we all have those that we look back on and regret. That is just part of the learning experience. Therefore, it is acceptable to trade contending pieces for other players or even picks, but I would only do so if the situation is right.
Final Thoughts
Dynasty football trade season should soon be getting underway. There have likely been a few trades in your leagues so far. The blockbusters have likely not yet gone down. That is why it is crucial to stay ahead of the curve. And knowing your opponents’ tendencies is a significant aspect of fantasy football that is not discussed enough. That could be what helps send a trade over the finish line. Or you to contact the league member that you know is looking to rebuild first. There is a lot that goes into fantasy football beyond the numbers, but hopefully, these tips can help you take advantage before we hit peak trade season.
