Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire: Week 3 Defense Streamers

Defensemen are never that easy to find on the fantasy hockey waiver wire and it takes more luck than grabbing a hot forward. But you can target more consistent production by the defense, which includes stats like hits and blocks, while also watching where they play in the lineup and in what roles. These are three of the best options for the remainder of Week 3.

Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire: Defensemen to Target for Week 3

Brent Burns, Colorado Avalanche

Brent Burns is on a four-game assist streak. While it’s not likely he will continue getting points every game, the Colorado Avalanche are very good and score a lot. He can still move the puck up and seems to get it to the top players and to the net for chances. Burns won’t stop throwing the puck on net in the offensive zone. He gets three shots on net per game, 1-2 blocked shots per game, and already has three penalties. He’s covering a good amount of stats for someone very widely available on the waiver wire. The Avalanche still match up against the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins this week.

Tyler Myers, Vancouver Canucks

Tyler Myers is more of a physical presence with consistent stats previously mentioned. He does have a goal and two assists, coming in the past three games, but has three penalties, shoots a bit, but has consistent hits and blocked shots. This helps being a big defender who plays a good amount and is on the penalty kill. The Canucks have a beaten-up forward group, so play may even be in their own end more, increasing Myers’ value by a bit more. The Canucks have three more games this week, playing the Nashville Predators, Montreal Canadiens, and Edmonton Oilers.

Thomas Chabot, Ottawa Senators

Thomas Chabot came out of the gate a little bit slower, not getting on the scoresheet points-wise until his last two games, but was consistently blocking shots and got some penalties. He is still the number two defenseman behind Jake Sanderson, and the Ottawa Senators need Chabot to play like he has in his last two games. He is on a second power-play unit that looks good and has produced two goals in the past two games. If you’re looking for that type of production, Chabot is your best bet right now on defense.

Defensemen aren’t always going to get points, but going for players with more consistent stats that could contribute more in the points department is your best bet most of the time when streaming.
