We’re 51 days from Opening Day, and the countdown highlights one of the system’s most well-known speed-first prospects. Checking in at #82 is Justin Crawford, a center fielder whose elite athleticism and contact skills have pushed him to Triple-A at just 22 years old. While power remains the swing skill, Crawford’s speed, defense, and improving on-base profile give him a clear fantasy path. If the bat continues to take incremental steps forward, his category juice plays nicely in dynasty leagues.

Daily Baseball Write-Up Series #82 Justin Crawford
The Phillies did not draft Justin Crawford to be subtle, and he did not play that way in 2025. At just 21 and already in Triple-A, he spent the season torching pitchers with a contact-heavy, all-fields approach while wreaking havoc once he reached base. The style mirrored his bloodlines, but the polish he showed during the year pointed to more than speed-driven production alone.
Crawford’s game was built on elite athleticism and an advanced feel for contact. The bat-to-ball foundation proved real, with a 7.3% swinging-strike rate paired with roughly an 18% strikeout rate and an 11 to 12% walk rate backing a .334/.411/.863 line. He did not cheat for contact. He lived on opposite-field contact at a 43.3% rate and kept the ball on the ground 59.4% of the time, defining his offensive identity as spray, run, repeat. That approach played to a 133 wRC+ and 46 stolen bases, as he turned routine singles into scoring position almost by default.

The question throughout the season centered on power. At the time, it showed more as suggestion than reality. A .118 ISO, a 17.7% fly-ball rate, and just seven home runs reflected a profile that had not yet unlocked lift or consistent pull-side damage, with only a 31.7% pull rate. The bat speed and underlying strength were present for future in-game pop, but most of the contact arrived up the middle or the other way. Defensively, he played as a plus center fielder, pairing long speed with clean routes and an arm that did not limit him.
The floor remained buoyed by the approach. A .411 OBP at Triple-A with this level of swing-and-miss control translated cleanly, especially when paired with near top-of-the-scale speed. Ground-ball-heavy profiles always carry some risk against big-league pitching, but Crawford’s contact quality trends and decision-making kept both the batting average and on-base percentage stable throughout the year. While his public ETA sat at 2027, his 2025 performance tracked like that of a player capable of accelerating the timeline if the Phillies needed speed, defense, and table-setting.
Fantasy Outlook
In dynasty and OBP formats, Crawford profiled as a high-floor asset with the chance to become a category anchor in steals and average or OBP. The 2025 production supported immediate runs and stolen bases with a clear path to double-digit home runs if the launch profile eventually ticked up. In standard 5×5 roto leagues, that skill set played as a premium glue piece, while in points formats the value leaned more on context, with OBP, low whiff rates, and volume doing most of the work. The power ceiling remained the swing skill, but even modest growth from a .118 ISO profile would have pushed him into top-25 outfielder territory when paired with 40-plus steal speed.
