Week 3 MLB FAAB Report
Must Adds
T.J. Rumfield (1B – Colorado Rockies) – 55% Rostered
After a very solid 2025 in the minors with the Yankees, Rumfield was traded to the Rockies this offseason. He made the opening day roster at first base and hasn’t looked back. He is checking all the boxes as he has picked up at least one hit in eight of 10 starts with four multi-hit efforts resulting in an elite .389/.450/.639 slash line.
The advanced metrics also back up the solid start as he is in the 88% percentile or higher in xwOBA(88th), xBA(93rd), xSLG(90th), and Launch Angle Sweet-Spot %(97th). He doesn’t strike out much(17.5%), hits 5th in the batting order, and gets to take half of his hacks in Coors Field. There is a lot to like, and he should be added in all formats.
FAAB Suggestion: With daily transaction leagues included, ownership will go up fast leading into the weekend and the start of week 3. I will be spending around 8-10% in most leagues, with a ceiling around 15% in leagues where I absolutely need a first baseman
Davis Martin (SP – Chicago White Sox) – 50% Rostered
One of the hardest things to source with deeper rosters is starting pitching. While the White Sox are in a rebuild, they have a few options that can help us fill some gaps with early injuries all over the pitching landscape.
In his second full season, Davis Martin has gotten off to an excellent start and is third overall in fantasy points per game(21.5). He has gone five and six innings in his two starts and is coming off a four-hit, no-run, quality start in Toronto against the Jays. He has not only provided a high floor but also flashed upside with six strikeouts in each start, resulting in a 27% K rate which sits in the 71st percentile among all starters.
The BABIP (.308) is over 30 points higher than his 2025 number, and combined with his 59% hard contact rate, does suggest some regression. The good news is that he has done a great job of missing barrels (3.7%) with the run on both his fastball (76th percentile) and breaking balls (68th percentile). It also helps having six pitches, all thrown over 10%, to help keep hitters honest.
FAAB Suggestion:Â In leagues where I am littered with injuries at SP(lots of them!), I will be spending 5-10% on MartinÂ
Strong Adds
Troy Johnston (1B – Colorado Rockies) – 39% Rostered
Another Rockies bat is making the list this week, and for good reason. How do we ignore a hitter who is hitting in the middle of the lineup and plays half his games in Coors Field? He has also backed it up with a strong start, boasting an early .310/.356/.524 slash line with four multi-hit efforts in 11 starts.
Almost all the advanced metrics say the hot streak will continue as he ranks 65th percentile or higher in xBA, xwOBA, and xSLG, and is 92nd percentile in squared up%. Even with a high chase rate (38% or 13th percentile), he is still striking out under 20% so far this season.
He is another player who could gain multi-position eligibility soon, as he has already made seven starts in right field for the Rockies. I slightly lean Rumfield between the two, but it’s very close and both are viable options in all formats.
FAAB Suggestion: I am the 4-6% range with Johnston this week.
Sean Burke (SP – Chicago White Sox) – 40% Rostered
A second White Six pitcher is on my radar this week and is picking up steam on the waiver wire. After an early exit in his first start, where he gave up seven hits and three earned runs to the Brewers, Burke has looked good in his last two appearances. He came in as a long reliever against the Blue Jays and went six innings, limiting them to four hits and one earned run while striking out seven. He then went five innings against the Orioles, giving up five hits and two earned runs. Through those three starts, he has struck out 15 (24%) while walking just three (4.8%).
Like his teammate, Martin has also been very good at missing barrels (2.3%) and, with an elite pitch run (92nd percentile), has induced an above-average chase rate of 32.7%. That could definitely lead to more punchouts in the near future.
More good news is that Burke is a two-start pitcher next. He gets an average start against the Rays, and an upside start against the A’s, who have the second-highest K rate(29%) of all teams.
FAAB Suggestion: With his two-start status next week, I like spending around 5-6% in most cases and probably up to 10% on the teams where my pitching has been depleted.Â
Speculative Adds
Ildemaro Vargas (2B – Arizona Diamondbacks) – 8% Rostered
Vargas is listed at 2B-only right now on Fantrax, but that could change soon. With injuries to Carlos Santana and Pavin Smith, he has started two of the last three games at first base. He is also off to a hot start with hits in all seven games, including three multi-hit efforts, two doubles, a triple, and a home run. The success has also helped force his way up the lineup as he hit in the two hole on Thursday.
He is still a few at-bats short of qualifying for percentile rankings on Baseball Savant, but would be in the 90th percentile in xBA, xwOBA, xSLG, LA Sweet-Spot %, Whiff %, and K%. As long as the opportunity to hit every day is there, he makes an excellent add in all formats and will gain added value should he get multi-position eligibility.
FAAB Suggestion:Â All things considered, I will be spending around 2-3% on Vargas this week.
