MLB Injury Report
Cal Raleigh – C Seattle Mariners
Cal Raleigh is indeed heading to the IL for the first time in his career, with a right oblique strain.
Jhonny Pereda arrived this morning here in Houston from Triple-A Tacoma. He’ll have a timeshare for the time being with Mitch Garver.
— Daniel Kramer (@DKramer_) May 14, 2026
It’s about time. And no, this isn’t about him being on the Injured List for the first time in his career, but rather it’s about how he’s been playing through this injury. He just came out of a slump in which he hadn’t had a hit in over 30 at-bats, and his bat speed was significantly lower. All this happened after his first time being injured but not going onto the Injured List. It would appear that he was playing through this injury, and it was definitely hurting his production on the field. We will know more about the severity of this issue, but if it is an oblique injury, the chances of him returning before the All-Star Break are about 50/50, since they’re tricky injuries from which to recover and typically take at least a month of recovery time.
Byron Buxton – OF Minnesota Twins
Byron Buxton has been scratched from the line up with right hip flexor soreness.
— Audra Martin (@Audra_Martin) May 14, 2026
There wasn’t much else to report yesterday, other than the news of Buxton being left out of the lineup for soreness in his hip. There were later reports saying that his hip had shown improvement by the end of the Twins game yesterday, but the real test will be to see how it feels later today. The hope is that this isn’t a serious issue and that he can return without having to miss time on the Injured List. He has an extensive injury history, so any ailment comes with added risk. Stay tuned.
Tyler Glasnow – SP Los Angeles Dodgers
Tyler Glasnow has resumed playing catch over the last couple days. Goal is to get off a mound soon. When that happens, if all goes well, could go right back into the rotation.
— Fabian Ardaya (@FabianArdaya) May 14, 2026
Given his extensive injury history with multiple stints on the Injured List, the Dodgers are hoping to have Glasnow back with the team. It’s one thing to believe in it, but it’s another thing to actually see it through. Given who he is and the fact that it’s already been announced that the Dodgers will take their time with his return date, this plan is anything but stable. He is eligible to return next weekend, but he will already be held back because the team wants to be as precautionary as possible.
Chase Dollander – SP Colorado Rockies
#Rockies RHP Chase Dollander left today's game with right arm tightness.
— Thomas Harding (@harding_at_mlb) May 14, 2026
Dollander had a lowered velocity in this game and left early as a result of this tightness. The team has already said that they will check him out today and update everyone on this situation. Stay tuned.
Francisco Alvarez – C New York Mets
Francisco Alvarez had right knee surgery this morning to repair his torn meniscus. The Mets expect him to be on the longer end of his recovery timetable, so a full eight weeks. That should take Alvarez into mid-July.
— Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) May 14, 2026
Both Alvarez and the team have moved quickly to get this surgery done as soon as possible. With an eight-week timeline, a post-All-Star Break return seems the likeliest scenario here, though, given his extensive injury history, anything is possible.
Jeremy Pena – SS Houston Astros
Jeremy Peña won’t play again today on his rehab assignment due to neck soreness, Joe Espada said. The hope is he’ll play tomorrow.
— Matt Kawahara (@matthewkawahara) May 14, 2026
Pena hasn’t played in his rehab assignment since he collided with his teammate on Tuesday. The resulting neck stiffness obviously is some cause for concern, but all of that worry can be alleviated once he makes his way back to the lineup and plays. The team hopes that day is today.
San Francisco Giants – Team Update
Erik Miller’s rehab appearance last night went well, he’ll be activated when eligible Saturday. Daniel Susac could return tomorrow and Logan Webb is on track to be back when eligible on 5/21.
— Alex Pavlovic (@PavlovicNBCS) May 15, 2026
It looks like the Giants have some decisions to make this weekend. Getting both Erik Miller and Daniel Susac back in their lineup will be a nice boost, but it’s hard to figure out exactly who gets demoted. Both Bryce Eldridge and Jesus Rodriguez have struggled lately and could use some time in the minors to develop. As for Logan Webb, this is a step in the right direction, though it was never believed to be a long-term injury.
Christian Yelich – OF Milwaukee Brewers
Pat Murphy on Christian Yelich: “Tomorrow will be telling whether he will need a longer break,” regarding his back.
— Todd Rosiak (@Todd_Rosiak) May 14, 2026
Yelich has missed some time this week because of a back issue, and the decision on whether or not he needs to go on the Injured List should be made later today. Given his long track record of back problems that culminated in surgery, it seems likely that he will be headed to the Injured List as a result of this.
Casey Mize – SP Detroit Tigers
Tigers are listing Ty Madden as the starter Friday at Comerica Park against Blue Jays. Casey Mize is eligible to come off the IL Friday. He possibly could start on Saturday
— Chris McCosky (@cmccosky) May 14, 2026
Mize last pitched on April 28, and tomorrow would make it 18 days since his last outing. It feels advantageous for him to do this without a rehab assignment, but the Tigers feel like he could do it without any issues. It remains to be seen whether this will in fact happen, but the team believes it is true. Regardless, fantasy managers need to be prepared for this.
