Fantasy Baseball Pitching Streamers: Doing Jumping Jax

Finding pitching streamers in fantasy baseball leagues is not always an easy task. Assessing the risks to identify the players who’ll provide the most rewards takes time and research. Although we can’t predict how the pitchers will fare, we’ve seen enough from opposing offenses to know whom to target and whom to avoid. I break down some of my favorite pitchers to stream for the week of May 25-31.

MLB Pitching Streamers for May 25-31

Pitching Streamers for Shallow Leagues (Over 20% Rostered)

Griffin Jax (SP-TB)

Next Start: Monday, 5/25, at Orioles

Griffin Jax started the season as a reliever, posting an abysmal 8.00 ERA in nine innings. However, he has been stellar since joining the starting rotation, posting a 1.42 ERA over 19 innings. He has held batters to a .203 batting average and struck out 14, but he has struggled with control, walking eight. Walks have been an issue for Jax all season, as he walked seven as a reliever.

The lack of control may be contributing to Jax’s 80th-percentile whiff rate (29.8%). This will match perfectly with facing the Orioles, who have the third-highest strikeout rate (24.4%) against right-handed pitchers—feeding right into Jax, who has pitches that will strike out both sides of the plate. He throws his sweeper primarily to righties and has a 44.7% whiff rate.

To lefties, he primarily throws a changeup and curveball that own a 36 and 46.2% whiff rate, respectively. Showing he can dominate a lineup regardless of the side of the plate hitters are on. The Orioles give Jax an optimal division rival to face. Jax also has another favorable matchup next week, on Sunday, May 31, against the Los Angeles Angels.

Ben Brown (SP-CHI)

Next Start: Monday, 5/25, at Pirates

Like Jax, Ben Brown also started the season in the bullpen, but unlike Jax, Brown has been successful all season. He has a 2.09 ERA over 38.2 innings, has held batters to a .184 batting average, and has an impressive 18.2% strikeout-to-walk ratio. He’s only started three games this season, but has experience in the role with 23 starts over the last two seasons.

Brown has been most successful at keeping the ball in the ballpark, while allowing only a 14.9% flyball rate. He’s only allowed one home run, which came in his season debut. The Pirates play well into this because they have a team flyball rate of 23.7%, which is below the league’s average. So Brown will have no trouble keeping the ball inside PNC Park.

Pitching Streamers for Deep Leagues (0%-25% Rostered)

Connor Prielipp (SP-MIN)

Next Start: Wednesday, 5/27, at White Sox

Connor Prielipp is off to an outstanding start in his rookie season. Over 29 innings, he has posted a 4.03 ERA, has held batters to a .210 batting average, and has a 30:12 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He had a 2.88 ERA before his last outing against the Red Sox, where he allowed five earned runs over four innings.

However, he can get back on track with his matchup against the White Sox, which has the sixth-highest strikeout percentage when facing southpaws (24.6%). This rate means Prielipp is well-positioned to build on his 87th percentile strikeout rate (28.4%).

Prielipp throws his slider 37.8% of the time and is getting a 32.1% whiff rate. Although lefty hitters are hitting him better in a small sample. Left-handed batters have hit the Twins’ rookie slightly better (.200) than righties have (.159).

The White Sox have seven lefties that bat in their order, but five have a platoon when a southpaw is on the mound. Only Munetaka Murakami and Colson Montgomery will likely stay in the lineup, even though they’re a strong power duo, combining for nearly half of the team’s home runs. I don’t see Prielipp’s hot start coming to an end against his divisional foe.

Jared Jones (SP-PIT)

Next Start: Friday, 5/29, vs Twins

It’s been just over a year since Jared Jones underwent UCL internal brace surgery. He’s been stellar in his four rehab starts over all three affiliate levels for the Pirates. The righty has posted a 1.88 ERA, and has an unreal 27.3%strikeout-to-walk ratio. Jones had massive hype after being drafted in the second round, but his MLB debut didn’t go as planned. In 2024, he posted a 4.14 ERA but had only an 18.5% strikeout-to-walk rate, which is still impressive.

The Twins will give the righty a prime opportunity to showcase his strikeout stuff as they rank seventh in strikeout rate (23.2%) against right-handed pitchers. With Jones’s fastball velocity ranked in the 93rd percentile (97.3 mph) during his rookie campaign, it’ll be interesting to see how he fares after surgery. He will be eased back into MLB, so don’t expect a full workload, although he could still rack up the strikeouts.
