MLB Injury Report
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. – 1B Toronto Blue Jays
UPDATE: 1B Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was removed from today's game with a right elbow contusion.
He underwent X-rays which came back negative for a fracture.
— Toronto Blue Jays (@BlueJays) May 24, 2026
That sound you heard yesterday afternoon was the collective sigh of relief exerted by every Blue Jay fan and fantasy manager who saw that Guerrero was diagnosed with a contusion. The first baseman was in a lot of pain and had to be removed from the game after the hit-by-pitch. However, it appears that the worst has been averted, and his return to the lineup will be pain-tolerance-based. For now, it would appear that his streak of never being placed on the Injured List is intact.
Dylan Cease – SP Toronto Blue Jays
Update: Dylan Cease was removed from the game with mild left hamstring discomfort. #BlueJays
— Keegan Matheson (@KeeganMatheson) May 24, 2026
The good news here is that Cease’s departure was due to a condition that is mild. It’s unclear if the team will have any follow-up examinations, but because that wasn’t announced, chances are they will monitor this situation internally. He is slated to start later this week, and we should have updates closer to that day. That said, if I were deciding on whether to start him this week or not, I would opt to insert him in the lineup, given what we know now.
San Diego Padres – Team Update
Musgrove and Pivetta updates from @sdutKevinAcee
Joe Musgrove plans to play catch next week. Nick Pivetta says he's probably a little further behind Joe when it comes to throwing again. Too early to put a timeline on when either will return, but the hope is late summer. pic.twitter.com/pXYx6Ophqe
— Talking Friars (@TalkingFriars) May 24, 2026
From the sounds of this report, we won’t see either Joe Musgrove or Nick Pivetta back on the mound for the Padres anytime soon. In all redraft leagues, they are worth dropping if there are no spots on the Injured List, since their output the rest of the way will be minimal at best.
Wyatt Langford – OF Texas Rangers
Wyatt Langford threw and hit today for the first time in three weeks. He’ll do the same routine for another week or so before he goes out on rehab assignment.
“It’s much healthier now than it was when I was trying to come back the first time,” Langford said.
— Shawn McFarland (@McFarland_Shawn) May 22, 2026
This is a promising development, as Langford has missed most of the season with forearm tightness. He later returned and was close to being activated before suffering a setback in a rehab game. He has been taking things much more slowly as a result, but it appears that he is in a good place as it stands. The team would be wise to take their time, given the setback, but also because of that quote about how he feels healthier. The hope is that he has learned his lesson not to push things harder than they ought to be.
Corey Seager – SS Texas Rangers
Skip Schumaker said that Corey Seager’s back recovery “wasn’t where we wanted it to be” after yesterday’s workout. He was supposed to face live pitching tomorrow but that’s been postponed.
“We’re trying to figure out the next steps,” Schumaker said.
— Shawn McFarland (@McFarland_Shawn) May 24, 2026
This is somewhat concerning. There’s a chance that his back “wasn’t where it should be” because the team moved too quickly to try things out. It’s a completely different thing altogether if his back isn’t where it should be because it needs something more. The other report of him needing another week off to be re-evaluated isn’t encouraging news. The hope here is that surgery isn’t needed, but the writing seems to be on the wall with a poor output this season and now a slow recovery. This is speculation on my part, but it’s also something that fantasy managers should keep in the back of their minds as well.
Yordan Alvarez – OF Houston Astros

This was after Alvarez was pulled from the game on Saturday with back spasms in his scapula region. This doesn’t appear to be anything serious, as he wasn’t scheduled to play yesterday anyway. Still, this is the Astros that we’re talking about, and their history of correctly tracking injuries is inconsistent. Chances are, he is back in the lineup this week and plays for most of the week. However, in daily leagues, be prepared.
Jared Jones – SP Pittsburgh Pirates
On his weekly radio show, Pirates GM Ben Cherington says that Jared Jones will meet the Pirates back in Pittsburgh and throw a bullpen Tuesday before "making a determination" on his next outing/activation.
Cherington again did not say whether that'll be as a starter or reliever.
— Colin Beazley (@colin_beazley) May 24, 2026
Tomorrow will be a big day for Jones and the Pirates. He has flown through this rehab assignment with impressive velocity. Should this upcoming bullpen session be a success, he will likely be activated this week. However, fantasy managers need not dismiss the notion that he will be used as a reliever. We saw it with Bubba Chandler, and with a young arm returning from a major injury, the Pirates may want to ease him into the season. Plus, having someone like him in your back pocket should injuries or fatigue arise, it’s a nice Plan B for later in the season.
Max Muncy – 3B Los Angeles Dodgers
Dave Roberts told reporters in Milwaukee that Max Muncy likely won't have a CT scan on his right wrist tomorrow.
"I think his improvement from yesterday to today, speaks to we'll kind of kick the can on that one."
— Matthew Moreno (@Matthew__Moreno) May 24, 2026
Muncy is as tough as they come, and this news is a great sign that he is trending in the right direction. He missed yesterday’s game, and there’s no word on exactly when he will return, but if the team isn’t going to undergo testing, chances are they believe he’ll be back soon enough.
Hunter Brown – SP Houston Astros
Hunter Brown’s first rehab:
2.0 IP | 1 H | 0 R | 0 BB | 5 K | ERA: 0.00
• 35 pitches (21 strikes)
According to local broadcasters, his fastball reached 98 mph and his slider 91 mph.

Such a positive first start, where everything went right. Great velocity, command, and control at the plate here by Brown; he looked like he’d never been injured. How he feels in the coming days will be key to how the team pushes his next start. That being said, before this started, the Astros speculated a mid-June return for their ace. If he physically feels good going forward, it would appear that the timeline would remain intact.
Josh Hader – RP Houston Astros
Josh Hader struck out 2 over a scoreless inning in a rehab appearance for the Hooks 🔥
He’s allowed one run while striking out 11 over 7 innings across 7 rehab appearances. #Astros pic.twitter.com/NUSA7qwtie
— Astros Future (@AstrosFuture) May 25, 2026
Another great outing yesterday for Hader, who, by all accounts, has looked solid over his entire rehab process. There wasn’t much on his velocity, but the results here have been great. Astros GM Dana Brown also said on the radio that the team expects Hader back in the first week of June. Be prepared.
Logan Webb – SP San Francisco Giants
Logan Webb said he feels physically ready to re-join the rotation after throwing on Friday.
Tony Vitello said Webb is “a good option” for the Diamondbacks series but nothing has been decided.
— Justice delos Santos (@justdelossantos) May 24, 2026
This is a good sign that he will be back. Fantasy managers should insert him into their lineups for this week.
Cole Ragans – SP Kansas City Royals

Despite pitching fewer innings than what was on the docket, the team remains encouraged with the progress of Ragans. He was seen throwing his fastball at 97.6 miles per hour in this start, and flashed consistent heat just below that mark. Whether or not he’s inserted back into the rotation remains to be seen, but the team isn’t ruling it out. There’s a chance that, if he feels good in the coming days, he will be activated to start later this week.
Kris Bubic – SP Kansas City Royals

Very promising first step in his recovery for Bubic, who has begun a full throwing program. From the sound of it, depending on how he feels in the coming days, he could start a rehab assignment shortly. Stay tuned.
Edward Cabrera – SP Chicago Cubs
#Cubs recall LHP Jordan Wicks from Triple-A Iowa. Edward Cabrera has been placed on the 15-day IL with a right middle-finger blister (retroactive to May 21).
— Taylor McGregor (@Taylor_McGregor) May 24, 2026
The good news here is that Cabrera is missing time due to a blister on his finger and not because of any arm or shoulder issues. Having had plenty of those in the past, it’s always something that needs to be considered when rostering him. The unfortunate news here is that the Cubs will lose another pitcher from their rotation for at least two weeks, which is an area that they cannot afford that luxury. Chicago will be without Cabrera, Matthew Boyd, Cade Horton, and Justin Steele for the foreseeable future.
