Welcome to the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Monday, August 10, 2026. In today’s edition, the Dodgers may have a new reliever in Shohei Ohtani, the Yankees have a slew of injuries that they’re managing, and the Red Sox could welcome Adley Rutschman to their lineup sooner than we originally thought. All that and more in today’s MLB Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Report
Shohei Ohtani – SP/UT Los Angeles Dodgers
Shohei Ohtani began a progression toward his return to pitching on Saturday following a two-week break after developing an issue in his left biceps.
Manager Dave Roberts said Ohtani, who has not pitched since July 3 due to left knee inflammation, will likely pitch as an opener… pic.twitter.com/JB4tPez3za

Arguably the biggest news of the weekend happened when Ohtani took to the mound to throw a bullpen session. It was his first time back on any mound for any sort of throwing in quite some time, but a day later, it was revealed that he would return as an opener. There is no timetable for when this would happen, but it’s encouraging nonetheless that they see a future here. Additionally, this keeps the window open for other pitchers to have fantasy value down the stretch. On a (personal) side note, I’d love to see him as the team’s closer one day, if he continues to push his pursuit of pitching consistently.
New York Yankees – Team Update

The Yankees are hopefully getting a lot of reinforcements back, none which mentioned here are Aaron Judge, who is still just at the light activities stage of his recovery. Within this report, however, Carlos Rodon has already worked his way up to 48 pitches with moderate success. As stated, he will require at least one more start before returning to the Yankees. That said, knowing his history, the minimum of one start isn’t guaranteed to be the end for him. As for Clarke Schmidt, the good news is that his setback is considered to be quite minor, as cramping isn’t always a major deal. He should continue to recover soon enough. As for Cody Bellinger, he continues to take batting practice and feels great. However, something to monitor will be how he recovers. A reminder that before he was placed on the Injured List, he did say that he had never actually injured his hamstring and didn’t know what to expect. His quote above feels more like a candid opinion and less like fact. Finally, Giancarlo Stanton continues to slowly come along and feels more like a playoff-type asset than a fantasy playoff helper. That seems like par for the course for him.
Maikel Garcia – 3B Kansas City Royals
Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia was taking grounders before today’s game. Matt Quatraro said if all goes well, Garcia will start at rehab assignment at Omaha on Wednesday. pic.twitter.com/NQ4441Nwaf
— Pete Grathoff (@pgrathoff) August 9, 2026
Garcia has been out of action since the end of June, and after setbacks and specialist appointments, he is now looking close to resuming his rehab assignment. With the Royals seemingly out of playoff contention, his return will be more focused on ensuring that he can enter the offseason with some peace of mind and an attempt to get ready for next season. As such, there’s no guarantee that he comes back quickly and plays every day, as his health for next year will be the team’s priority.
Kyle Stowers – 1B Miami Marlins
Left hamstring discomfort for Marlins OF Kyle Stowers who left the game, will undergo further evaluation.
— Craig Mish (@CraigMish) August 9, 2026
Stowers exited the game on Sunday with an injury to his left hamstring, and, as mentioned, he will undergo further evaluation. There was no word on how he felt or if the team was worried about this being a significant injury. While he did miss some time at the beginning of the season with a hamstring injury, that was to the right, and this one is on his left. That said, the team will likely exercise caution here.
Ryan Helsley – RP Baltimore Orioles
Orioles right-hander Ryan Helsley is in the first week of his throwing progression from elbow inflammation. He’s doing long toss. He said there are a few weeks more before bullpens and games.
“I’m really hoping so,” Helsley said of the possibility of returning this year
— Andy Kostka (@afkostka) August 9, 2026
From the looks of it, Helsley won’t provide much, if any, fantasy relevance for the rest of the season, making Andrew Kittredge and Yennier Cano both worth rostering in deep leagues as they will both be geetting save opportunities for the rest of the season.
Adley Rutschman – C Boston Red Sox
Adley Rutschman’s first rehab game with the WooSox:
1-for-2
1 2B
2 BB
2 R104 EV on the double. He was only scheduled for 5 innings today. Also threw out a runner trying to steal. pic.twitter.com/RWFrDLjuTS

It feels like Rutschman will be activated this week. How soon depends on how his body responds to this initial outing and if he can build on that for his next time out there. He is travelling with the team, and their next steps will be determined after a workout. He is Boston’s big addition, and they’ve succeeded without a catcher who can hit. There is no rush here. That being said, it feels like his return is imminent.
Cooper Pratt – SS Milwaukee Brewers
SS Cooper Pratt has been officially placed on the 10-day injured list with strained right hamstring according to the #Brewers. A huge bummer after the incredible last month and a half the rookie has put together.
— Cameron Ezeir (@camezeir) August 9, 2026
This came after an MRI revealed the strain, making the decision an easy, yet unfortunate one to make. Of note, David Hamilton slotted in at SS, but Andrew Vaughn started the game as the Brewers’ third baseman. Perhaps this could give him multi-eligibility and another shot to be a productive player for Milwaukee.
Griffin Jax – SP Tampa Bay Rays
#Rays Griffin Jax is going to see a doctor in Dallas, Texas for a second opinion to determine the extent of his elbow discomfort. We should expect to know more on Wednesday.
— Ryan Bass (@Ry_Bass) August 9, 2026
Uh oh, this can’t be good. Jax was scratched from Saturday’s start with elbow discomfort, and a day later it was revealed that he would seek a second opinion. While this could very well just mean that he wants to see what a specialist has to say about the whole thing, it does bring about some worry that surgery could be an option. Unfortunately for Tampa Bay, this comes a week after the trade deadline, so if he is in fact gone for the season, his replacement will have to be done internally. As it states, we will know by Wednesday, but he is likely a drop in all redraft formats and some dynasty.
Endy Rodriguez – C Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates announced Endy Rodriguez as a late scratch from tonight's lineup due to left hip discomfort. He's currently being examined by the club's medical staff. Rodriguez was previously on the injured list from July 8 to July 27 with a left glute strain. — From Eric Bowser in…
— DK Pittsburgh Sports (@DKPghSports) August 8, 2026
Rodriguez didn’t play this weekend and remains day-to-day with this injury. He’s been solid when on the field, but it’s hard to tell exactly when he can do so with any consistency.
