MLB Injury Report – Big Bats on the Way Back!?

Welcome to the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Monday, May 26, 2025. In today’s report, there are updates on Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, Michael King, Yordan Alvarez, Corey Seager, and many more. Be sure to find out what all of the biggest names are up to in today’s MLB Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Report

Mike Trout – OF Los Angeles Angels

This is the result of two weeks of progression in Trout’s recovery. He has worked hard to slowly but surely get to the point where he will run at 100% intensity along the basepaths. As mentioned, he will need to do it more than once, but should this be a success, we could see Trout back in the Angels’ lineup within the week. From the sounds of reports, it doesn’t seem like he will want or need a rehab assignment. Great news here, as baseball is better when he is playing.

Michael King – SP San Diego Padres

This was a bizarre turn of events, as it was reported this weekend that King missed his scheduled start because of an awkward sleep. Baseball players are human, and things like this happen. Then, a day later, he is placed on the Injured List with shoulder inflammation. Something doesn’t add up here, but as an outsider, it’s too difficult a case to crack. For now, we can take this at face value and hope that it is a sleeping incident and nothing more.

Yu Darvish – SP San Diego Padres

Definitely not the news that one would want to read if they were rostering or stashing Darvish, who had just pitched in a rehab outing. We should know more soon, but the idea that his elbow might not be structurally sound is discouraging. Stay tuned.

Yordan Alvarez – OF Houston Astros

Lately, it sounds like manager Joe Espada is trying his best to nicely say that Yordan Alvarez will return to the Astros lineup when he is deemed ready. It’s been noted by the team that Alvarez has gotten better every day for quite a while, but the question of how much better he can get comes into play. Alas, with the outfielder previously noting that he wouldn’t return until he is at 100% is likely the answer that nobody wants to hear, because chances are that this is the type of injury that won’t go away without some sort of extended rest or procedure. That’s not to say that he cannot play through it, as this might just be a pain tolerance issue. However, it would appear that he will return when he feels comfortable. Unfortunately for the fantasy community, we will have to wait for that to happen.

Adley Rutschman – C Baltimore Orioles

This will be something to monitor as lineups lock later on today. It’s hard to tell if he will miss minimal time, a week’s worth of time, or no time at all. For now, we can only assume that this precautionary move will result in his insertion back into the lineup this week. However, that is a tenuous estimation that could change on a moment’s notice. Stay tuned.

Roki Sasaki – SP Los Angeles Dodgers

Sasaki, who has missed the last two weeks with a right shoulder impingement, will look to get back onto the mound soon enough, as a throwing progression program will begin in the near future. That means he will likely start by playing catch, slowly increasing the distance at which he is tossing, and then throwing bullpen sessions. This is a long road ahead of him, but the good news is that he’s at least about to get in the car and start the journey.

Shohei Ohtani – SP/DH Los Angeles Dodgers

Nobody else is out there like him, as not only did he throw a live bullpen session early in the day, he also hit a leadoff home run off of Kodai Senga to start Sunday Night Baseball. On the pitching side, he threw 22 pitches, and some of them made his teammates look foolish. Where this leads him is unknown, but it’s good to know that he has this in him, as he tries to build himself back up. It’s unclear if he will go on a rehab assignment, as that would mean he would need to be away from the team. Instead, he may continue doing things like this from yesterday and pitch against his team. That being said, this is pure speculation at this point.

Byron Buxton – OF Minnesota Twins

Yet another big decision here for fantasy players, as Buxton might not be back in the lineup until the end of the road trip. It’s unclear if he is still feeling symptoms or if they will return. Still, it’s a great sign that he is returning to join the team on this road trip, likely an indication of a close return. Chances are he is back mid-week, but that’s optimistic speculation.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. – 3B New York Yankees

Good news here for Chisholm, whose asymptomatic status means that he is just about ready to start his rehab assignment. He likely needs to get his body back into game shape, which will come soon with baseball activities, but overall, this is tremendous news for one of baseball’s most eclectic players. In fact, we could see him back in the Yankees’ lineup as early as next week.

Corey Seager – SS Texas Rangers
