Kansas City Royals – Team Update
#Royals injury updates:
—Cole Ragans scheduled to throw his first bullpen tomorrow
—Jac Caglianone scheduled to go on rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha tomorrow— Anne Rogers (@anne__rogers) August 11, 2025
Today is a big day for the Royals, with two of their most fantasy-relevant players taking big leaps forward. First, Cole Ragans throwing a bullpen is a massive development, as if successful, it could mean that he’s physically ready to start ramping up. As for Jac Caglianone, beginning a rehab assignment is the final step in his recovery, and if he feels well enough after one game, it could mean that he’s back with Kansas City within a week. How both of these players feel afterward will help determine what their next steps are and how long they will take to return.
Grayson Rodriguez – SP Baltimore Orioles
Grayson Rodriguez had successful right elbow debridement to remove a bone spur today with Dr. Keith Meister in Dallas.
He is done for the season but the hope is he’ll be ready for spring training
— Danielle Allentuck (@d_allentuck) August 11, 2025
The procedure here is to help alleviate issues with his elbow, and the belief is that he will be back in time for the start of Spring Training. It’s unclear if this is a permanent solution to his previous problems, though, to be fair, he’s had multiple ailments all over his body. A procedure should help fix things for, at the very least, a long time; however, this doesn’t necessarily mean he’s in the clear just yet. The timeline for recovery is three to six months, and there is a lot of time for him to get better.
Dylan Crews – OF Washington Nationals
Dylan Crews will continue his rehab with Rochester, scheduled to play the outfield Tuesday and Wednesday. Those will be his 12th and 13th rehab games.
— Mark Zuckerman (@MarkZuckerman) August 11, 2025
Over eleven games played during this rehab assignment, Crews has posted a .278/.333/.472 slash line with two home runs and one stolen base. There have been no reports of any setbacks, but it appears that the team is being extra cautious here, with good reason.
Marcelo Mayer – SS Boston Red Sox
Red Sox’ Marcelo Mayer is playing catch today. This is the start of baseball activities
— Christopher Smith (@SmittyOnMLB) August 11, 2025
Mayer has been on the shelf for quite some time with a wrist injury. There was some belief that he would miss the rest of the season, but he did take an anti-inflammatory injection to help ease the pain. As such, he has resumed baseball activities. Barring a setback, he could be able to ramp things up in time to return at some point in September.
Jacob Misiorowski – SP Milwaukee Brewers
Matt Arnold said a rehab start for Jacob Misiorowski is still TBD. They are reading the situation over the next couple of days and will make a decision. https://t.co/zY8iT5SHj3
— Adam McCalvy (@AdamMcCalvy) August 12, 2025
This is significant in that it could change the date of his return by almost an entire week, assuming that he only requires one rehab start. It also signifies that the injury is more concerning than once believed, as he has pitched just under 100 innings in total this year, and is likely needed to pitch in the playoffs. As such, the team wouldn’t necessarily want to burn some more of those innings in the minor leagues unless it was necessary.
Gerrit Cole – SP New York Yankees
Gerrit Cole started his throwing program today… about 20 pitches on flat ground #yankees
— Meredith Marakovits (@M_Marakovits) August 11, 2025
The journey of 1000 miles begins with the first step.
Yordan Alvarez – OF Houston Astros
Update on Yordan Alvarez (right hand inflammation): He is going through a hitting progression at the Astros complex in Florida. He hit on field BP for the first time on Saturday.
— Julia Morales (@JuliaMorales) August 11, 2025
Three days after this, we haven’t heard of any recurring pain. Given that it’s the Astros we’re talking about, we may not know of this pain until Christmas. However, for now, let’s consider no news being good news.
Josh Hader – RP Houston Astros
Josh Hader was unavailable due to shoulder discomfort, Joe Espada said. He is undergoing tests.
— Chandler Rome (@Chandler_Rome) August 12, 2025
Hopefully, we will find out the severity of the situation here soon. There is a chance that he requires time on the Injured List, but without jumping to conclusions, let’s just wait for the results of the tests.
Shane McClanahan – SP Tampa Bay Rays
#Rays McClanahan had a surgical procedure today to try to address lingering nerve issue in left arm. Ends any chance of coming back this season.
— Marc Topkin (@TBTimes_Rays) August 12, 2025
#Rays Cash said the procedure is a step to try to fix the problem: “(The doctor) is not sitting there saying ‘he's fixed.’ That's not the case. It's, ‘This is one step, and we'll see how this goes.’ And hopefully we get good results. And if we don't, then let doctors decide what…
— Marc Topkin (@TBTimes_Rays) August 12, 2025
This is an unfortunate turn of events for Shane McClanahan this season, as he won’t even throw one pitch for the Rays. After setbacks throughout the year, it was determined that pushing through and attempting any sort of progress could not be done safely without this procedure. The incredibly peculiar note here is that there is no guarantee that this procedure will solve the issue and make him ready to pitch in 2026.
Lars Nootbaar – OF St. Louis Cardinals
X-rays on Lars Nootbaar's left knee were negative. He is listed by the #STLCards as day-to-day. He fouled a pitch off his left leg in the third inning, but stayed in the game for three innings before leaving with pain and swelling in the knee.
— John Denton (@JohnDenton555) August 12, 2025
This is good news for Nootbaar, whose exit last night provoked some fear, seems to be okay, and should be considered day-to-day with a contusion. How he feels when he arrives at the ballpark today will go a long way in determining his availability.
