MLB Injury Report
Bryce Harper – 1B Philadelphia Phillies
Bryce Harper threw and took some dry swings in Philadelphia today. The plan is to get him outside tomorrow and throw a little bit longer/further, and potentially hit off the tee. The team will have more clarity on a timeline for his return when they see him tomorrow.
— Lochlahn March (@lochlahn) June 19, 2025
This was a big hurdle for Harper to clear, as both he and the team were looking for a full range of motion in his wrist. Now that he has it, he will be re-examined today in an effort to fully gauge where they are with his progress. If all goes well, we could see him skip a rehab assignment altogether, or possibly participate in a miniature-sized version of one. That being said, without getting too far ahead of ourselves, he needs to come into work today, feel minimal soreness, and continue with his ability to throw and swing.
Aaron Nola – SP Philadelphia Phillies
Today the Phillies selected the contract of INF Buddy Kennedy from Lehigh Valley (AAA). To make room on the 26-man roster, INF/OF Weston Wilson was optioned to LHV following last night’s game. To make room on the 40-man roster, RHP Aaron Nola was transferred to the 60-day IL.
— Philadelphia Phillies (@Phillies) June 19, 2025
This move was more procedural than anything, though it’s worth noting that Nola won’t be able to return until mid-July. As such, it would appear that a post-All-Star Break return is in the works….alongside a debut for Andrew Painter. If the Phillies can get both of those players in their rotation, pitching at a high intensity, the rest of the league should take notice.
Houston Astros – Team Update
Other injury updates, per Joe Espada:
* Luis Garcia could throw a live BP next week.
* Chas McCormick likely to face live pitching next week in Florida
* Yordan Alvarez and Zach Dezenzo are still not hitting
* J.P. France slated to throw his third live BP tomorrow— Matt Kawahara (@matthewkawahara) June 20, 2025
A lot of information to unpack here, beginning with Luis Garcia. He could throw a live BP next week, though nothing is set in stone. The good news is that he has thrown multiple bullpen sessions and seems to be progressing, so it’s plausible. As for Chas McCormick, it wouldn’t be surprising if the team aligns his live batting practice session with Garcia’s session, to kill two birds with one stone. Yordan Alvarez and Zach Dezenzo have yet to hit, and other than stating the facts, we have received minimal updates on their progress. Last week, we heard that Alvarez “could” hit this week, and therein lies the problem with the word “could”. It turns out he wasn’t close at all. Finally, J.P. France’s return would be a boost for a struggling Astros rotation, but he still has some work to do. A rehab assignment could be on tap right after this session.
Corbin Carroll – OF Arizona Diamondbacks
Dbacks’ Corbin Carroll asked to play today but manager Torey Lovullo gave him today to rest his bruised left hand.
— José M. Romero (@RomeroJoseM) June 19, 2025
His absence was understandable, given that the team played an afternoon game following a late-night late-game exit. Good on Torey Lovullo for not starting him and not using him as a pinch-hitter in yesterday’s game.
Gabriel Moreno – C Arizona Diamondbacks
We have made the following roster moves: pic.twitter.com/9MfVDjGhzX
— Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) June 19, 2025
The writing was on the wall for this type of move, as the Diamondbacks themselves said they couldn’t wait too long for Moreno to return. After all, Jose Herrera couldn’t play every day, and the team would need another catcher on the team to take over catching duties.
Matt Chapman – 3B San Francisco Giants

The long road to recovery has begun, as Chapman has started participating in light conditioning and baseball activities. He is not expected to be back until at least July, and possibly through the All-Star Break.
Max Scherzer – SP Toronto Blue Jays
Max Scherzer expected to join Blue Jays soon. Thumb sore as expected after 75 pitches. He’ll throw a bullpen in Toronto this weekend setting up a possible start vs. Guardians next week. Not official but trending well.
— Ben Nicholson-Smith (@bnicholsonsmith) June 19, 2025
The good news is that Scherer threw 75 pitches, which is a huge amount for the early stages of a rehab assignment start. However, given how much time he has lost here, this thumb soreness might be something he has to somehow manage and pitch through if he plans on ever pitching again. He will be 41 years old next month, and time is ticking on any chance he has of starting games in the majors. If he cannot manage this and pitch through it, perhaps retirement is the only real alternative.
Tony Gonsolin – SP Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers selected the contract of RHP Jack Little and optioned RHP Emmet Sheehan. In order to make room on the roster, the Dodgers transferred RHP Tony Gonsolin to the 60-day injured list.
— Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) June 19, 2025
It might be a while before we see Gonsolin back in the Dodgers’ rotation, and this isn’t based on his recent designation to the 60-Day Injured List. He has an injury history that is quite extensive, and the team won’t want to take any chances with this.
