Welcome to the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Friday, August 14, 2026. In today’s edition, the Reds take a major blow with their franchise player missing the rest of the season and possibly all of next season; the Rangers may be without their two aces in the rotation, and the Brewers have a conundrum at second base. You can read about this and so much more in today’s MLB Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Report
Hunter Greene – SP Cincinnati Reds
Hunter Greene update: Reds All-Star required a second Tommy John surgery yesterday. 12-18 months.
To miss all of next year.
— Gordon Wittenmyer (@GDubMLB) August 13, 2026
This is an absolute gut punch for the Reds, who will lose their ace for the foreseeable future. Greene went in for a revisionist procedure, but it turns out that he needed a full Tommy John Surgery, which is the second one of its kind for him. As such, he will miss the rest of this season and likely all of next year, barring some unforeseen miracle. It is something that will take a lot of work to recover from, though he is young enough that he can still have a successful career. Shane McClanahan and Jacob deGrom are two examples of pitchers who have bounced back from this in a fine way, and Greene can hold his own when healthy. Still, it won’t be an easy recovery for him or the Reds, as he eats up a lot of salary on a team that isn’t known for spending money.
Jacob deGrom – SP Texas Rangers

This is somewhat concerning, as deGrom was only able to make it through just over an inning last night. He had been dealing with a hip issue, and now will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the situation that he’s dealing with. deGrom himself doesn’t believe that this is a serious issue, so we will have to wait and see if his statement rings true. That being said, this has the potential to be disastrous for the Rangers, who have also lost Nathan Eovaldi with his own injury, making Texas a team down two aces and worth possibly streaming hitters against.
Jack Leiter – SP Texas Rangers
Jack Leiter threw 2.2 scoreless innings in a rehab start at Triple-A Round Rock.
He struck out three, allowed one hit, one walk and threw 32 of his 48 pitches for strikes. His fastball ran 96-97 mph and touched 98 mph in the first inning.
— Shawn McFarland (@McFarland_Shawn) August 14, 2026
Leiter is now up to 48 pitches thrown after having tossed 48 in his short rehab outing last night. He will likely need at least two more starts before a return is considered. However, with the aforementioned Jacob deGrom possibly out of action for the time being and Nathan Eovaldi gone too, there’s a possibility that Leiter becomes a featured option for the Rangers in September.
Garrett Whitlock – RP Boston Red Sox
Garrett Whitlock said he is not getting an MRI and he is confident it isn’t a major, surgery-requiring problem. He legitimately seemed upbeat. https://t.co/KNfwG0myga
— Tim Healey (@timbhealey) August 13, 2026
Whitlock will miss the next fifteen days because of elbow inflammation, but both he and manager Chad Tracy don’t feel like it will be a major issue. While Whitlock himself is upbeat, and that can be helpful right now, we won’t know for certain until we get full confirmation from the MRI. That said, most players feel like their injuries won’t cost them significant time, and more often than not, they are wrong. Stay tuned.
Kyle Teel – C Chicago White Sox
Wh Sox manager Will Venable said that the progress of catcher Kyle Teel ,should have him hitting off Trejekt machine soon. Teel running at 80 percent. Venable thinks without setback,Teel should be ready to go out on rehab stint the end of the month.
— Bruce Levine (@MLBBruceLevine) August 13, 2026
Teel has been making some progress here since his injury just under a week ago. That being said, his six-to-twelve-week timetable for a return doesn’t leave much time for him to make any contributions if he can get back within the lower end of the projected timeline. Even if he does, his fantasy value will be quite limited, and at the position of catcher, it’s still better to look elsewhere now and later in the season, even if he does in fact return.
Brice Turang – 2B Milwaukee Brewers

The injury bug is hitting the Brewers at the wrong time, though is there ever really a right time? Turang getting a second opinion on an already imaged left knee is concerning, as it’s obviously serious enough to warrant additional consideration. The team being non-committal about where they go from here is par for the course, but it’s also something to look out for. David Hamilton is versatile, but there’s only so much he can do. Should Turang miss some time, they may call up rookie phenom Jesus Made, but Ji Wan Bae seems to be the likeliest of candidates for a bump in playing time.
Maikel Garcia – 3B Kansas City Royals

This was the box score from last night’s Double-A Northwest Arkansas game, where Garcia finished with three walks. What we don’t see are the two errors that he made in the field. All of the above, however, looks to be rust or hesitancy, as Garcia hasn’t played since the end of June. The team will want to see more of him at the plate and more steady work on the field before they call him up, as he is recovering from a strained muscle in his left hand, which in his case, is his glove hand. Of course, I am merely speculating here, because at the time of this writing, there wasn’t much information on this performance.
Endy Rodriguez – C Pittsburgh Pirates
We have made the following roster moves: pic.twitter.com/JYOofaR26t
— Pittsburgh Pirates (@Pirates) August 13, 2026
Rodriguez is a very talented player with fantasy relevance. Unfortunately for him, he just cannot stay on the field long enough to allow for his true talent to break through. Over 419 plate appearances, he has ten home runs and six stolen bases, and most of those have been accumulated this season. That said, he’s had multiple placements on the Injured List over the years, and it’s that inconsistency on the field that has hurt his ability to truly blossom.
