Welcome to the Fantrax MLB Injury News for Thursday, June 12, 2025. In today’s report, Cole Ragans is back on the Injured List, Shane McClanahan needs to see a specialist, and Jazz Chisholm may need some rest. All of that and so much more in today’s MLB Injury Report from Fantrax.
MLB Injury Report
Cole Ragans – SP Kansas City Royals
#Royals didn’t provide many details about the severity of Ragans’ rotator cuff strain. Quatraro said that they were waiting for a few tests results to come back before determining severity and timeline. Doesn’t sound like it will be a quick IL stint like last time, though.

This sucks, plain and simple. Ragans felt soreness last week after his start against the Cardinals, and it reappeared once he started playing catch. This doesn’t sound like it’s going to go away anytime soon, as it will likely need additional rest before any soreness goes away. The team will soon know the severity of this strain, but if it’s anything but mild, he will require extended time. Judging by his diminished velocity at the end of last season, this might have been a long time coming, too. Stay tuned.
Shane McClanahan – SP Tampa Bay Rays
#Rays ace Shane McClanahan is “kind of in a shut down mode” according to manager Kevin Cash, and is going to visit with another nerve specialist before determining the next step in his recovery.
— Ryan Bass (@Ry_Bass) June 11, 2025
McClanahan has missed the entire 2025 season after sitting out all of 2024 recovering from Tommy John Surgery. There is a significant chance that he won’t pitch one inning for Tampa Bay this season, as this type of ongoing and lingering pain is worrisome. He had advanced from throwing without pain up to a full-fledged bullpen session a few days ago. It wasn’t revealed how he felt, but with the team opting for a specialist, perhaps they’re as perplexed by this situation as the fans are.
Grayson Rodriguez – SP Baltimore Orioles

Interesting choice of words here, as manager Tony Mansolino went the human being route. And yes, he is correct. Rodriguez and other players are human beings, and we do need to remember and respect that fact. Judging by the words here, the team likely talked with Rodriguez, who may not have wanted some of his most private moments, struggles, and feelings to be revealed to the public. After all, it can be daunting to be the face of a franchise, but not have your body withstand the rigors of doing this week after week. Now, after suffering yet another injury to a body part that just won’t work the way that it should, the team is choosing to respect their right to privacy. All that being said, this was a roundabout way for the manager to say that things may not work out as expected in 2025, and it’s all about getting healthy for next season. There is a significant chance that he doesn’t throw an inning’s worth of baseball in 2025.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. – 3B/OF New York Yankees
Boone says he thinks Jazz Chisholm is OK after exiting at KC due to left groin tightness.
Initial strength tests were good. “We’ll see what we have tomorrow.”— Pete Caldera (@pcaldera) June 12, 2025
Chisholm left a game early for the second consecutive night, this time due to groin tightness. While it sounds like he has avoided the worst-case scenario, we won’t know more until closer to game time today. It’s worth noting that since the end of last season, he has missed time with a sprained UCL, a strained oblique muscle, spasms in his neck, and now tightness in his groin. Not an ideal situation, with the hope being that perhaps a day off will give him what he needs to be healthy.
Luke Weaver – RP New York Yankees

This all seems like great news, as Weaver’s hamstring seems to be on the mend. That being said, it’s worrisome that he was given a four-to-six week timeline for a return, and he is less than ten days into his recovery. There’s a real danger of him reinjuring himself here to the point where he may do significant damage.
Christian Yelich – OF Milwaukee Brewers
Christian Yelich is out of the lineup for a second straight day. The right wrist that was hit by a pitch in Philadelphia swelled up again a few days ago after a slide, Murphy said. X-rays were negative.
— Jack Stern (@ByJackStern) June 11, 2025
The good news here is that Yelich’s X-rays are negative, which means that there is no structural damage. The hope is that he can return for this weekend’s series after having taken some swings in the cages earlier yesterday.
Nathan Eovaldi – SP Texas Rangers
Nathan Eovaldi — who went back to Arlington for further diagnostics — has played catch the last few days. They hope he'll throw a bullpen this weekend when the Rangers return home and then evaluate from there.
— kennedi landry (@kennlandry) June 11, 2025
From the sounds of it, Eovaldi, who is eligible to return from the Injured List this Friday, will require extra time away to recover from this triceps injury. That being said, it’s good news that he’s at least playing catch and isn’t completely shut down. The hope is that when he is evaluated this weekend, the team will make the right call and not rush him back. When healthy, he is one of the best pitchers in baseball, but that label of health comes and goes frequently.
Cody Bradford – SP Texas Rangers
Cody Bradford (elbow) threw 22 pitches of live batting practice today as he continues his rehab progression.
Bruce Bochy said he looked really good. The Rangers hope he'll be stretch out to five innings by July 4.
— kennedi landry (@kennlandry) June 11, 2025
Bradford has missed the entire 2025 season with an elbow injury that popped up in March. Since beginning to throw again, he has built himself back up to 22 pitches, which is a significant gain. He still has a ways to go, but he is worth stashing in leagues with IL spots due to his upside.
Jackson Jobe – SP Detroit Tigers

This is just awful news, as it means he will miss the rest of the 2025 season and either most or all of the 2026 season.
