MLB Injury Report

Mike Trout – OF Los Angeles Angels

Trout was hit on the hand by a pitch from Shane Smith. It would appear that he’s avoided anything serious here and should be back in the lineup soon enough. It’s fair to wonder if this were a regular-season game, whether he would have stayed in the game.

Seiya Suzuki – OF Chicago Cubs

Since injuring himself at the World Baseball Classic, Suzuki has shown minimal progress. The fact that he isn’t yet able to run, much less jog, is a bit of a concern. The team needs to decide on his status for Opening Day soon, and the team doesn’t foresee this being a long-term issue. All that being said, it feels like a trip to the Injured List is in his future. Fantasy managers should be prepared for the worst here.

Brooks Baldwin – OF Chicago White Sox

Baldwin is an important piece to the White Sox puzzle, as last year he had at least ten appearances in all offensive positions other than catcher and first base. It remains to be seen if this injury will carry itself into the regular season, but it’s a lingering one that he’s played with before. Either way, he is the under-rated glue here that keeps the team going, giving others a chance to play. The team should have updates throughout the weekend.

Kyle Stowers – OF Miami Marlins

With this being a recurring injury, chances are that Stowers begins the season on the Injured List, as a way to help let this ailment heal. Knowing that he missed around two weeks earlier this spring, there’s a non-zero chance that he misses the entire month of April, regardless of the outcome of the imaging he received. Fantasy managers need to be ready for his replacement or for a diminished output, as this could be a nagging issue if not properly dealt with.

Lars Nootbaar – OF St. Louis Cardinals

Two steps forward, three steps back for Nootbaar, who continues to have physical issues preventing him from taking the next step in his development. He is a talented player at the plate, but his body has difficulty holding up. This foot injury is by no means a minor one, and it can take weeks, if not months, to get better. The good news is that he will ramp up his running progression throughout this weekend.

Shane McClanahan – SP Tampa Bay Rays

McClanahan is the feel-good story of the spring, as he looks to be ready for his first start in almost three years. Fantasy baseball managers need to be prepared for all outcomes here, as expecting his production from the past might be out of his reach. He is coming back from a long hiatus, multiple surgeries, and even more setbacks. That’s not to say that he can’t sustain the rigors of a long season. Just be prepared to see a different version of the pitcher you once knew.

Jeremy Pena – SS Houston Astros

Two straight days of progression without any setbacks. It remains to be seen if Pena will begin the year on the Injured List, but he’s doing everything that you and the Astros would want him to do to make himself available for Opening Day.

Gleyber Torres – 2B Detroit Tigers

The hope is that this is nothing to be worried about and that the precautionary approach is the one that leads him to being in the lineup for Opening Day.
