MLB Injury Report

Spencer Strider – SP Atlanta Braves

The news yesterday was big, but also positive, as this should be considered the best-case scenario for Strider. During his last outing, he left early with diminished velocity in a shortened appearance. With elbow inflammation after an almost immediate Injured List designation, the worst was feared as he went to visit Dr. Keith Meister, the doctor who performed his major operation years ago. For now, it was determined that he avoided structural damage done to his elbow, which is a huge relief. That being said, he will not do anything for four weeks and then be reexamined. There’s a chance that he is ready to pitch again by the end of July, though that feels unlikely. Strider is hopeful he’ll pitch again this year, which means there’s a chance that he won’t. If you don’t have any Injured List spots left, he feels droppable in redraft formats.

Elly De La Cruz – SS Cincinnati Reds

De La Cruz ran the bases yesterday to test his hamstring. All went well, and he is slated to go on a rehab assignment. Chances are that this won’t be a long trip to the minor leagues. There have been reports that it was hard to convince De La Cruz to go on the Injured List, considering he played through an injury last year. He is apparently chomping at the bit to return, and a few games where he feels 100% and looks like his dominant self might be all that he needs.

Christian Scott – SP New York Mets

Scott went on the Injured List with a hip impingement that doesn’t seem to be overly serious. That’s good news if true, as the Mets need him back. That being said, we’ve had many pitchers say these sorts of things before and not have it be true.

Trea Turner – SS Philadelphia Phillies

Turner was hit by a pitch earlier in Monday’s game, and left in the eighth inning with what was described as a contusion. He had X-rays done after the game, and while the results came back negative, it is anticipated that he will be quite sore today. The team will evaluate him and determine the next steps. Stay tuned.

Gleyber Torres – 2B Detroit Tigers

Oof, not a good look here. Torres had just returned about a month ago from a left oblique injury, and now exits with what could be the same injury. If this is in fact a recurring injury, it could signal an extended absence, as many teams tend to play it safe when things happen more than once. Let’s hope this isn’t the case and that he left for precautionary reasons. There were no updates after the game, as the team was awaiting the results of tests being done. Either way, though, this isn’t good until we hear news stating otherwise.

Miami Marlins – Team Update

Fantastic news for both Marlins players here, as it would appear that Miami has some reinforcements on the way. Eury Perez will likely need more time than Griffin Conine, though getting to 50 pitches with some level of effectiveness would be a sign in the right direction for the Marlins and fantasy managers.

Los Angeles Dodgers – Team Update

Edwin Diaz continues to show improvements with each and every update that is provided. Him throwing a bullpen would be a great sign that he is trending toward a recovery in the original timeline provided. Slowly, but surely, he’s working toward returning just after the All-Star Break, though the Dodgers likely won’t rush things, regardless of the standings. As for Tyler Glasnow, there have been mixed reports regarding his status, but this one puts any of those with a positive outlook to rest. Glasnow hasn’t shown much progress at all and continues to be at a standstill with respect to when he can get his recovery on track. As someone who is quite injury-prone and usually requires extensive time off when hurt, this is no surprise. Finally, Tommy Edman will return today, with Santiago Espinal to be the player that is DFA’d in his place.

Teoscar Hernandez – OF Los Angeles Dodgers

It had been rather quiet on the Hernandez-front, with little to no news regarding his status. Now that we know he’s on the verge of a rehab assignment, it’s fair to assume he’ll be back before the end of the month. If you can buy-low or stash him on your roster, now is the time to do it.

Corey Seager – SS Texas Rangers

This move was expected, as Seager was experiencing concussion symptoms for a couple of days before this designation. There’s no telling when he’ll return, as the severity of the situation is not yet known. Concussions are tricky and a serious matter to deal with, so taking their time here would be wise.

Houston Astros – Team Update

Be prepared!

Chicago Cubs – Team Update

There was some concern surrounding Matthew Boyd after his recent setback, so today’s up-and-down bullpen is very important. If he can come out of it unscathed and feeling as good as anyone should be, he just might be closer to a rehab assignment or to rejoin the Cubs, as per the original plan before this setback. As for Justin Steele, he is aiming to return late in the season despite his most recent setback, but he is poised to be a dynasty piece more than a redraft asset.
