MLB Injury Report
Braxton Ashcraft – SP Pittsburgh Pirates
Braxton Ashcraft is headed to the 15-day IL, sidelining him until at least the last week of the season. It’s right arm discomfort for the Pirates starter who has been so good all year.
— Aiden Stepansky (@AidenStepansky) September 10, 2026
As mentioned here, Ashcraft has been a rock for the Pirates for most of the year. He has already pitched around 50 innings more than he did last season, which is a big jump, but also normal when teams want to stretch out their pitchers to become long-term starters. This injury will be something to monitor. Should the Pirates not advance to the playoffs, there’s a chance that the team decides that rest is all he needs. If that’s the case, we may see him come into the season with an injury early on, since the problem here may not have been fully healed with an operation. That is me spitballing here with some speculation, but it’s happened time and again with different players.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. – OF New York Yankees
Jazz Chisholm Jr. (right thumb sprain) said he expects to play before the end of the regular season. He anticipates returning when the Yankees are back from their upcoming road trip.
— Bryan Hoch ⚾️ (@BryanHoch) September 10, 2026
Chisholm will be re-evaluated in about a week, and from there the team will get a better idea of what the next steps will be. From the sound of that, fantasy managers should prepare for the worst, which is not having him back in the lineup once those ten days are done. When teams don’t have a firm grasp on a timeline for return, that usually means that they are putting the extent of the injury into perspective and making it a realistic possibility of happening.
Jacob deGrom – SP Texas Rangers
Skip Schumaker said that Jacob deGrom was dealing with groin tightness through much of his start today.
That’s what the mound visit was about in the sixth and that’s also why he didn’t come back out for the seventh.
— kennedi landry (@kennlandry) September 10, 2026
Jacob deGrom was having quite the game despite this news. He was almost unhittable through six innings, and then his disappearance from the game came with some questions. It turns out that the reason behind it was that he was experiencing tightness in his groin throughout the entire game, and the team didn’t want him to have to do it anymore. We don’t know much more than this, and it’s unclear if a trip to the Injured List is warranted. For now, let’s assume that he makes his next start, but anything is possible this late in the season.
Lane Thomas – OF Atlanta Braves
Lane Thomas was a late scratch just before the game. He could to miss the remainder of the season with an intercostal strain.
This could mean a few more opportunities for Brewer Hicklen, who's made the most of limited chances (8-for-24 with 6 BB). https://t.co/YoliShNRaL
— Grant McAuley (@grantmcauley) September 10, 2026
Given the nature of the injury, this is likely season-ending for Thomas, who found some success in Kansas City earlier this season before being unable to replicate that post-trade deadline in Atlanta. He may require surgery, as this is the type of injury that could have some ramifications if not addressed.
Corbin Carroll – OF Arizona Diamondbacks
Have heard nothing concerning on Corbin Carroll’s MRI and that he will be in the lineup tomorrow,
— John Gambadoro (@Gambo987) September 11, 2026
This is great news for the Diamondbacks and for fantasy baseball managers, as it would appear that Carroll’s back issues are behind him. He underwent an MRI, and for now all is good. Back pain does tend to linger, so it’s hard to imagine him out of the woods altogether, but he will be in the lineup and will seemingly avoid the Injured List. Had we seen the worst-case scenario, dropping him altogether would have been a difficult choice to make this late in the season.
Brandon Marsh – OF Philadelphia Phillies

— Phillies Nation (@PhilliesNation) September 10, 2026
There wasn’t much to report on this, as the news was sparse about what direction the team was going to go. It’s unclear if he will get X-rays, imaging, or something else done, but there’s a chance here that he misses at least one game with this injury. Stay tuned.
Justin Steele – SP Chicago Cubs
Justin Steele came out of the bullpen for Iowa tonight:
2.0 IP | 4 H | 2 R | 0 BB | 3 K
Velo was back down, with his four-seamer sitting 89.3 mph, but he generated a 38% whiff rate. Finished with 31 pitches. pic.twitter.com/jUjoCU2kps
— Carson Wolf (@TheWrigleyWire) September 11, 2026
Steele continues to make a push for a late-season return to the Cubs, who could use his services out of the bullpen. The drop in overall velocity is somewhat concerning here, and it’s unclear why that happened. It’s possible that this is injury-related, or he did have his start pushed back to an appearance later in the game, and maybe the mental aspect of that got him out of any routine he’s used to having. Either way, keep an eye on what the team says here. If there’s nothing injury-related, the Cubs may want one more appearance from him before giving him a chance to pitch for Chicago.
