Top 20 Baltimore Orioles Prospects for Dynasty Leagues

The Baltimore Orioles ended 2024 in the postseason before getting swept in the Wild Card Series by Kansas City. Their lineup is still very promising with young stars like Gunnar Henderson and Adley Rutschman, as well as some very promising players like Jackson Holliday and Colton Cowser, among others. It is their pitching that will need to take a step forward to compete with the top brass of the AL East.

In terms of prospects the Orioles have two players in the top 10 of our Top 600 Dynasty prospects. Many of their top prospects are hitters. There are some crowded position battles already with prospects getting closer and closer to being ready to compete. It’s possible they look to trade for pitchers. Either way, the recent promotions leave the Orioles with a very top-heavy system that has some interesting pieces beyond the big names.

Top 20 Baltimore Orioles Prospects for Dynasty Leagues

1. C/1B Samuel Basallo, Age: 20

Just a couple of weeks after his 20th birthday, Samuel Basallo received a promotion to Triple-A, where he got 86 plate appearances to end the season. Prior to that, he was hitting .289 with 16 home runs. Basallo has a lot of power and a lot of hitting ability. His success, especially at his age compared to the level he played at is tremendous. It’s one reason he sits eighth on our Top 600 prospects. If he keeps catcher eligibility he has the potential to be an elite fantasy backstop, however, with Adley Rutschman holding that position down, Basallo will likely move off the position. He still has the ability to be a very good fantasy player, but his best value is with catcher eligibility.

2. 3B Coby Mayo, Age: 23

The Orioles fourth-round pick in the 2020 draft has developed into one of the better power-hitting prospects in the minors. Part of that development has been becoming a good all-around hitter. Coby Mayo spent most of 2024 in Triple-A where he slashed .287 with 22 home runs. In a 41 AB sample with Baltimore, things did not go as well. He hit .098 with a 47.8 percent strikeout rate. He will get another chance at the big league level to right the ship after a rough adjustment period.  Still, it will be hard for him to find regular playing time in a crowded infield picture. He may wind up at first base, but Basallo might need reps there too.

3. OF Enrique Bradfield Jr., Age: 23

Enrique Bradfield Jr. was a 17th overall pick by Baltimore in 2023 after being a standout player for Vanderbilt. His calling card is his speed, which helped him to steal 74 bases during the 2024 season. He does a good job getting on base to give himself the opportunity to rack up stolen bases. He slashed .272/.358/.371 between High-A and Double-A. There isn’t much power to speak of, hitting only four home runs during last season. Bradfield Jr. is a table-setting outfielder who could put up gaudy steal numbers for fantasy lineups.

4. OF Vance Honeycutt, Age: 21

The upside of Vance Honeycutt is very high, but he’s still pretty raw in terms of his skills. Still, he represents a speedy outfielder with power potential. After Baltimore made him the 24th overall pick in 2024, Honeycutt played in both Single-A and High-A, hitting .176 in 13 games. While the sample is not big enough to make any definitive statements, he did strike out at a 42.9 percent clip. In his first full season, he will look to show more of the upside offensively that made him a first-round pick. The Orioles should assign him to High-A, where he finished last season.

5. RHP Chayce McDermott, Age: 26

While the Orioles have added Charlie Morton and Tomoyuki Sugano this offseason, Chayce McDermott should still have a shot at a rotation spot heading into 2025. Though he may head back to Norfolk. He did start a game for Baltimore last season where he allowed three runs across four innings. In 100 Triple-A innings he posted a 3.78 ERA with a 12.96 K/9, however, his 5.40 BB/9 is high. He’ll need to contain his walks in 2025, but he should get another crack at the big leagues at some point during the year. The command poses an issue, but the strikeouts make him someone to keep an eye on.

6. RHP Brandon Young, Age: 26

Another potential rotation option for the Orioles this year is Brandon Young. He put together a very good season in 2024, where he had a 3.57 ERA with a 10.70 K/9 and 3.00 BB/9. He’s long had the reputation of throwing strikes, but showing the strikeout numbers in the upper levels of the minors. He works with a fastball that can touch the mid-90s, but it’s his big curveball that stands out the most from his arsenal. Like McDermott, Young is on the 40-man and should get a chance in 2025, though it’s unlikely to be from the beginning of the year.

7. OF Dylan Beavers, Age: 23

The 2022 33rd overall pick, Dylan Beavers, is coming off his best professional season so far after hitting .241 with 15 home runs and 31 stolen bases in Double-A. He got a taste of Triple-A and will be back there to start the 2025 season. Beavers has added power since he was first drafted and is starting to look like a real power and speed threat. When he heads back to Norfolk, he’ll be looking to show he can hit enough to stand out amongst what is becoming a pretty crowded outfield picture for Baltimore.

8. SS Griff O’Ferrall, Age: 21

The Orioles took Griff O’Ferrall 32nd overall in the 2024 draft as a Prospect Promotion Incentive pick following Gunnar Henerson’s AL Rookie of the Year. He was able to debut and play at a couple of different levels after signing, the highest being High-A. The former Virginia Cavalier hit .250 with a couple of steals. O’Ferrall can draw walks, which help him to get on base and steal. He won’t be much of a power threat, but he could wind up with multi-positional eligibility with the ability to hit for average and steal bases.

9. RHP Keeler Morfe, Age: 18

Despite being listed at 5-foot-8 Keeler Morfe, who will be 18 years old until June, is able to hit triple-digits with his fastball. After a ridiculously good DSL performance where he gave up only two runs while striking out 38 batters in 22 innings, Morfe got a promotion to Single-A. He threw 10.2 innings there, posting an ERA above six and issuing a lot of walks. Regardless, his big fastball makes him an interesting upside play in deeper dynasty leagues. He should wind up back in Single-A where he can take another crack at finding more success.

10. LHP Luis De León, Age: 21

Southpaw Luis De León was signed for just $30,000 during the international free agency in December of 2021. In the three seasons following, he pitched his way up to High-A. The strikeout numbers from last season were encouraging, posting a 10.88 K/9 in 87.2 innings. However, High-A gave him some trouble as he had an ERA of 5.73 and a BB/9 over six. De León, who will turn 22 in April, sits in the mid-90s with his fastball that he compliments with a good slider and solid changeup. He has the potential to be a really interesting pitcher for fantasy baseball, but he will have to work to keep the walks in check for that to happen.

11. OF Jud Fabian, Age: 24

In 2021 Jud Fabian was thought to be a top-five pick in the draft, but when all was said and done he turned down the Red Sox who took him in the second round that year.  A year later he was taken 67th overall by the Orioles. He does a lot of things very well on the baseball field, such as being a good defender in the outfield and utilizing his power and speed. However, he also has quite a bit of hit tool concern. In 2024 he spent most of the year in Double-A before a late-season promotion. He slashed .215/.305/.390 with 20 home runs and 16 stolen bases. Fabian will return to Norfolk, but without being able to cut down on his 32.4 percent strikeout rate, he’s a very high-risk/high-reward type of player in dynasty leagues.

12. RHP Michael Forret, Age: 20

Michael Forret was a 14th-round pick by the Orioles in 2023. Baltimore went over slot value to do it, but his first season in pro ball showed why. As a 20-year-old Forret threw for a 3.88 ERA with 124 strikeouts and 44 walks in 99.2 innings playing in both Single-A and High-A. If the organization wants to get aggressive, Forret could see Double-A to start next season, and if not he should be on track to get there at some point. He seems like a player who could potentially break out in a big way and become very sought after by dynasty managers.

13. C/1B Creed Willems, Age: 21

After being drafted out of high school in 2021, Creed Willems got off to a pretty slow start offensively. Then in 2023, he hit 17 home runs. He followed that up with another 17 home run performance in 2024, reaching Double-A at 21 years old. For fantasy teams, Willems power as a catcher is something to dream on. Last season he really cut down on his strikeout rate, with a 20.5 percent mark that was down nearly seven percent from the year before. That being said the Orioles are pretty set with their catcher and with Basallo waiting in the wings, too, it could be a tough road for Willems.

14. RHP Nestor German, Age: 22

Seattle University product Nestor German made a loud professional debut in 2024, throwing 73.2 innings with a 31.4 percent strikeout rate and a 1.59 ERA. Of his 21 appearances last season, only 12 of them were starts. Regardless of role, he generated a lot of swing-and-miss. He is someone to keep an eye on moving forward, especially if the Orioles decide to make him a starter full-time in 2025.

15. 2B/SS Aron Estrada, Age: 20

As a 19-year-old playing full-season baseball last season, Aron Estrada slashed .286/.356/.416 with nine home runs a 39 stolen bases. The switch-hitting middle infielder is a contact-oriented speed threat who also played a handful of games in the outfield. He has more power potential than other speed threats in this system, but he will never be a consistent power threat. His versatility defensively and speed make him another potential speedy utility-type for the Orioles.

16. RHP Patrick Reilly, Age: 23

At the trade deadline, the Orioles sent outfield prospect Billy Cook to Pittsburgh in exchange for pitching prospect Patrick Reilly. Following the trade the Orioles promoted him to Double-A where he threw for a 3.73 ERA with a 10.91 K/9, which was par for the course that season. Despite his swing-and-miss stuff, he does have some command questions. His BB/9 was north of five after the trade. There’s reliever risk, but if he can reign in the command he has some potential as a whiff-generating option at the back of a rotation.

17. RHP Alex Pham, Age: 25

Alex Pham spent all of last season with the Orioles Double-A affiliate with a 4.24 ERA and 138 strikeouts through 119 innings. His low-90’s fastball plays better thanks to some better secondaries. While Pham used them well to generate whiffs last season, his strikeout upside may be limited as a starter in the big leagues. He’ll head to Norfolk in 2025 where he represents rotation depth for Baltimore, should they need it.

18. OF Stiven Martinez, Age: 17

Baltimore gave Stiven Martinez just shy of a million dollars to sign with them during the 2024 international free-agent period. He debuted in the DSL the same year at the age of 16, where he hit .278 with four home runs. He’ll be 17 until August, meaning a good portion of the 2025 season. After holding his own last season, plus his big 6-foot-4 frame. there’s certainly some intrigue around his future as a potential power-over-hit outfielder.

19. 2B/OF Tavian Josenberger, Age: 23

Baltimore’s third-round pick in 2023 showed a lot of things that dynasty managers may want to take note of last season. Namely, Tavian Josenberger stole 50 bases with a 13.7 percent walk rate and 16.4 percent strikeout rate. That being said, he hit just .235 with nine home runs. His speed and walks are likely what he can do to help a fantasy lineup unless he develops a little bit more thump in the bat. Long term, Josenberger could be a speedy utility type with eligibility at several positions.

20. C/1B Ethan Anderson, Age: 21

The Orioles 2024 second-rounder was Ethan Anderson out of the University of Virginia. After signing he played in both Single-A and High-A where he slashed .288/.361/.438 and added a home run and six steals. The switch-hitting catcher has a good offensive skillset makes him an interesting catching option. That being said, he may wind up at a different position long term.
