2026 Dynasty Baseball Prospects: Daily Write-Up Series #144 Ricky Tiedemann

The countdown rolls on with another installment of my 2026 Dynasty Baseball Prospects: Daily Write-Up series. Coming in at #144 is Ricky Tiedemann, a left-hander in the Toronto Blue Jays organization who remains one of the most talented arms in the minors despite a lost year to Tommy John surgery. When healthy, Tiedemann shows a dynamic three-pitch mix headlined by a mid-90s fastball with carry, a devastating changeup, and a sweeping slider that misses bats on both sides of the plate. With his rehab on track, he’s poised to reestablish himself in 2026 as one of the premier left-handed pitching prospects in baseball.

Daily Baseball Write-Up Series #144 Ricky Tiedemann

The Blue Jays southpaw hadn’t pitched meaningfully since mid-2023, but when healthy, his arsenal stacked up with the best arms in the minors. After a dominant full-season debut in 2022, Tiedemann rocketed into Top-25 prospect status. Since then, injuries, inconsistency, and Tommy John surgery derailed his ascent, but not his upside.

The raw ingredients never disappeared. Tiedemann blitzed through three levels in 2022 with a 2.17 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, and 38.9% strikeout rate over 78.2 innings, numbers that earned him the top spot in Toronto’s system and a consensus Top-30 national ranking. His deception, mid-to-high-90s fastball, plus slider, and fading changeup formed a true three-pitch mix that overwhelmed hitters. Scouts at the time graded his fastball and slider into the 60–65 range and pointed to how well the shape and execution backed the performance.

In 2023, the stuff looked even nastier in stretches. He struck out 39.7% of batters at Double-A and posted a 2.12 FIP despite a 5.06 ERA inflated by poor luck and spotty command. His walk rate climbed to 13.5%, but he finished the year strong with a scoreless start in Triple-A and a dominant showing in the Arizona Fall League, where he earned AFL Pitcher of the Year honors. That momentum stalled in 2024. Tiedemann made just four abbreviated Triple-A starts, walking more batters than he struck out, before exiting a July outing with forearm tightness. He underwent Tommy John surgery shortly after and missed the rest of 2024, and all of 2025 as well.

Fantasy Outlook
At his peak, Tiedemann showed SP2 or better upside: a lefty with elite strikeout rates, strong ratios, and a deep arsenal. But as of 2025, he has thrown just 96 professional innings over the previous three years and hasn’t made it back to full health. The talent remains, but the control, durability, and role are all in question. Dynasty managers need patience, and redraft relevance looks off the board until at least mid-2026. For those willing to wait, the upside still makes him stash-worthy, but the window narrows with each missed inning.
