We’re 19 days from Opening Day, and the 2026 Dynasty Baseball Prospects: Daily Write-Up series spotlights a high-upside teenage infielder. Ranked #68 is Felnin Celesten, a toolsy shortstop with twitchy athleticism and projectable power. Still just 20 years old, Celesten offers dynasty managers a blend of foot speed, bat speed, and long-term ceiling that is hard to ignore.
Daily Baseball Write-Up Series #68 Felnin Celesten
The Mariners have moved deliberately with Felnin Celesten, and 2025 has been the first real season where the tools meet the grind of a full schedule. At 19 in High-A, he’s learning on the job against pitchers three and sometimes four years older. The line won’t jump off the page, but when a teenage shortstop carries his own at this level, that matters. The question is no longer, “Is he for real?” but, “How fast does the power come online?”
Celesten’s 2025 line, .273/.345/.721 OPS with 19 doubles, three triples, six homers, and 21 steals over 472 plate appearances reads like a player who understands the strike zone and controls at-bats without selling out for impact. The bat-to-ball holds up for his age; a 12.9% swinging-strike rate paired with roughly a 23–24% K rate (111 strikeouts in 472 PAs) is perfectly workable for a teenage switch-hitter in High-A. He’s shown a sound all-fields approach (33.3% oppo, 41.0% pull) and a line-drive foundation (22.7% LD) that hints at more damage as his body matures. The gap power shows up in the doubles; the home-run output hasn’t popped yet, and the .102 ISO reflects that, but this is the kind of contact profile that often flips quickly with strength gains and minor swing decisions.

Right now, the biggest developmental lever is the batted-ball mix. A 45.0% groundball rate is capping his in-game power, even as the swing shows the bat speed and leverage to project above-average raw power in time. You can see the outline: he stays inside the ball from both sides, lets it travel, and trusts his hands to shoot the opposite-field gap. That’s a strong base. As he learns when to get the head out and lift, especially on hittable heaters, those opposite-field liners become back-spun rockets to the pull side. The plate skills are trending in the right direction, too; a near-10% walk rate (46 walks) for a 19-year-old at this level speaks to feel and poise in the box. Defensively, he checks the shortstop boxes with athletic actions, a plus arm, and the kind of internal clock that keeps him on the left side long-term. The speed plays both on the dirt and the bases, and the 21 steals underscore the athleticism you’re betting on.
The production contextualizes well. He’s a tick above league average by wRC+ (103), which is exactly what you want from a teenage shortstop challenged at High-A. No glaring red flags popped this year, but the modest ISO and groundball tilt are the honest checkpoints. If he starts lifting more and continues to improve his swing decisions on spin, the power output should follow. Age-to-level, switch-hitting shortstop, sound approach, and athleticism is a combination you buy early and wait on.
Fantasy Outlook
In Dynasty, Celesten is a patience play with a broad path to five-category contributions. In the near term, you’re buying batting average stability, runs, and steals, with the understanding that the homers may lag until he trims the groundballs and adds a little more loft. The approach, roughly 10% walks and manageable whiffs, keeps his floor intact for OBP formats, and the speed plays in roto even if the power is a year behind. In Points, the strikeouts are reasonable for his age, but the lack of extra-base damage limits ceiling until the ISO climbs. The timeline remains long (Top 100 range with an ETA around 2029), but that’s precisely why there’s still a window to acquire. If you can afford the wait, this is the kind of profile that matures into a high-AVG, 15–20 HR, 20+ SB shortstop at peak with everyday volume and stability, premium scarcity that wins in every format.
