MLB Injury Report
Michael Harris – OF Atlanta Braves
Asked if the Braves could get Collin McHugh or Michael Harris II back for this next homestand, Braves manager Brian Snitker said he did not know.
— Justin Toscano (@JustinCToscano) April 19, 2023
More uncertainty for Harris, whose absence was expected to be a short-lived one. It’s now been 13 days since he went on the Injured List and there is no end in sight for him. Still, one has to think that a return is close.
Jorge Mateo – SS Baltimore Orioles
Brandon Hyde said Jorge Mateo is day-to-day with his right hip discomfort. The off day tomorrow works in Baltimore’s favor. Hyde said it happened as Mateo came out of the box
— Andy Kostka (@afkostka) April 20, 2023
It remains to be seen if this is just a one-day off sort of thing or if he’ll need time within the weekend. All that being said, it looks like he’s avoided anything major.
Yoan Moncada – 3B Chicago White Sox
Yoan Moncada not expected back this weekend. Before he returns, a minor league rehab stint more than likely, per Grifol.
— Daryl Van Schouwen (@CST_soxvan) April 19, 2023
It’s unclear as to when and where Moncada’s rehab assignment will happen. Until then, his return remains in limbo.
Spencer Steer – INF Cincinnati Reds
Before the game, Spencer Steer gave an update on his quad/knee.
"I feel good. I ran sprints today pretty much 100%. No problems. I'll finish out my day and hopefully be in there tomorrow."
— Charlie Goldsmith (@CharlieG__) April 19, 2023
It’s encouraging to see that he was able to run at close to 100% today. He remains DTD but seems to be close to a return.
Trevor Rogers – SP Miami Marlins
I expect Rogers to be placed on the IL. The hope is (IMO) it is mild and can return in weeks, not months. MRI will determine. I’m optimistic there. Options include Bryan Hoeing and Chi Chi Gonzalez in the interim. https://t.co/Q311eV8mqq
— Craig Mish (@CraigMish) April 19, 2023
Rogers left yesterday’s start after 58 pitches and lowered velocity. It’s concerning because of what the injury is and what it could be. There will be more updates today, but it’s looking like a trip to the Injured List is happening.
Corbin Burnes – SP Milwaukee Brewers
Craig Counsell said Corbin Burnes’s throwing session before today’s game went well.
All systems go for his next start.
— Todd Rosiak (@Todd_Rosiak) April 19, 2023
Some very positive news here, as it’s looking like a return from Burnes is on its way. Time will tell if he’s able to make his start, but it’s looking great.
Garrett Mitchell – OF Milwaukee Brewers
OF Garrett Mitchell placed on the 10-day injured list with a left shoulder subluxation.
OF Blake Perkins recalled from Triple-A Nashville. pic.twitter.com/vX4ZInVwzl
— Milwaukee Brewers (@Brewers) April 19, 2023
Mitchell himself said that it happened when he dove into third base. He didn’t feel a pop or anything like that in his shoulder but rather felt more of a shift through his thumb which made it hard to do anything. He was later able to put his arm over his head, leading him to believe it would be okay, but when he threw a ball it hurt again. He will undergo imaging today to determine the severity.
Tyrone Taylor – OF Milwaukee Brewers
Tyrone Taylor could figure into the Brewers outfield picture soon. He began playing games on Arizona this week and is scheduled to go to Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday to continue playing.
— Adam McCalvy (@AdamMcCalvy) April 19, 2023
Interesting timing here, as the team will likely lose Garrett Mitchell for a significant portion of time. Keep an eye on Taylor’s recovery.
Jorge Polanco – 2B Minnesota Twins
We heard from #MNTwins infielder Jorge Polanco in St. Paul today with the Saints.
Polanco missed the final month of last season with a knee injury. He says he's 100%.
"I'm ready to go, I'm ready to go."The Twins return to Target Field on Friday.@KSTPSports pic.twitter.com/BNzWvxyD5N
— Alec Ausmus (@A_TwiceKSTP) April 19, 2023
Fantastic news to hear that Polanco feels like it’s at 100% right now. What he’ll need to do is strengthen it in order to keep it as strong as it needs to be. He just elevated his rehab outing to Triple-A and seems to be ready to return soon.
Starling Marte – OF New York Mets
Starling Marte's neck soreness has been lingering as a result of his slide against the Marlins
He is hopeful to be in the lineup tomorrow, but has to see how he feels when he wakes up pic.twitter.com/u2WsAvZil5
— SNY (@SNYtv) April 19, 2023
Marte was pulled from yesterday’s game, and it was revealed that this injury has been lingering. Perhaps a day or two will help things get to where they need to be. Consider him DTD.
Carlos Carrasco – SP New York Mets
UPDATE: Carlos Carrasco has a small bone chip in his right elbow, causing the swelling/discomfort that placed him on the IL. The hope is the injection he received today will allow him to resume pitching in two weeks. Otherwise, he could be facing surgery.
— Mike Puma (@NYPost_Mets) April 19, 2023
The hope is that he can avoid surgery, but it’s on the fence as to whether or not that will happen. The team can seemingly ill-afford to lose another pitching piece for a long period of time, though their record would indicate otherwise.
Josh Donaldson – 3B New York Yankees
Josh Donaldson said that he had an MRI today on his hamstring, and is receiving treatment. He isn’t sure how long they’ll shut him down. “I’m bummed out. I felt like it was going to be any day now.”
— Bryan Hoch (@BryanHoch) April 19, 2023
His return will continue to be delayed. DJ LeMahieu continues to take third base reps for the Yankees.
Carlos Rodon – SP New York Yankees
Carlos Rodón had tests on his back a few hours ago, per Aaron Boone. The manager added the first half of tests came back "normal," but other tests haven't come back yet. Boone called the issue a "minor nagging thing." #Yankees
— Gary Phillips (@GaryHPhillips) April 19, 2023
So far so good for Rodon, who looks to be on his way back, though the timeframe is still unclear.
Brent Rooker – OF Oakland Athletics
Brent Rooker is dealing with a contusion near his hamstring and is likely not available off the bench today, per Kotsay. They'll wait to see how he feels after tomorrow's off-day.
— Martín Gallegos (@MartinJGallegos) April 19, 2023
Initially removed for precautionary reasons, Rooker’s injury has now cost him two games. Time will tell if this is more serious than the early indications have us believe.
Trevor May – RP Oakland Athletics
Trevor May has been placed on the 15-day IL with issues related to anxiety, according to the A’s. Here is a statement from GM David Forst: pic.twitter.com/Vt0iopAXQU
— Matt Kawahara (@matthewkawahara) April 19, 2023
Here’s hoping that May can get the help he needs and come back as strong as ever.
Ramon Laureano – OF Oakland Athletics
Ramón Laureano was placed on the 10-day IL retroactive to April 17 with a strained left groin.
— Jessica Kleinschmidt (@KleinschmidtJD) April 19, 2023
The severity is unknown, but it’s enough to keep him out of the lineup for a while.
Robbie Ray – SP Seattle Mariners
Jerry Dipoto gave injury updates during Mariners pregame @ROOTSPORTS_NW
He expects Haggerty to return from his concussion Saturday.
Moore could rejoin the team early on the road trip.
It could be mid-May when Robbie Ray returns but says that’s just a guess at this point.
— Jen Mueller (@JenTalksSports) April 19, 2023
With the middle of May being an estimate, there’s no telling exactly when he will return, so pinpointing a time is futile. The fact is that Ray has yet to begin a throwing program. Until that happens, he remains a long-term return.
Jose Siri – OF Tampa Bay Rays
Siri likely headed to AAA @DurhamBulls this weekend for some rehab games, could rejoin #Rays sometime during #Astros series https://t.co/TpeNjfkmU4
— Marc Topkin (@TBTimes_Rays) April 19, 2023
The end appears to be in sight here for Siri’s injury time.
