MLB Injury Report
Tanner Houck – SP Boston Red Sox
Houck, who seemingly survived a major scare by being conscious and aware the entire time, may not be out of the woods just yet. Time will tell how long he will miss, and this is evidence that he is still in some pain. Stay tuned.
Chicago White Sox – Team Update
Tim Anderson, out of lineup for second straight game after leaving early Saturday, is day-to-day with ailing shoulder. No big deal, per Pedro Grifol.
Rick Hahn said Sox hope to get Liam Hendriks throwing in next week or so and Mike Clevinger throwing by end of week.
— Vinnie Duber (@VinnieDuber) June 19, 2023
We’ve been down this road before with players from the White Sox. Seemingly DTD injuries with this team last about a week’s worth of missed time. It’s unclear when Anderson will be back, but it’s been two games now. It still wouldn’t be a surprise to see him land on the Injured List. As for Hendriks, he has already been given a cortisone shot and a PRP injection to help speed up the process. The hope is that the team doesn’t rush him back after his off-season ailments and a shortened ramp-up. Finally, Clevinger throwing by the end of the week would help him stay in line (or close to it) with a minimum stay on the Injured List.
Lance Lynn – SP Chicago White Sox

The Lynn family is wished well at this time.
Graham Ashcraft – SP Cincinnati Reds
The Reds move forward with a rotation in the short-term of Luke Weaver, Brandon Williamson, Ben Lively, Andrew Abbott and Graham Ashcraft.
Ashcraft is expected to return from the IL this weekend, and the Reds have an off day on Thursday.
— Charlie Goldsmith (@CharlieG__) June 19, 2023
Be prepared, as this isn’t exactly how the Reds drew it out when the season began.
Hunter Greene – SP Cincinnati Reds
The #Reds today activated from the 60-day injured list 1B Joey Votto and placed on the 15-day injured list, retro to Sunday, RHP Hunter Greene (right hip pain).
Additionally, RHP Kevin Herget was designated for assignment. pic.twitter.com/iz4TUSPnpy
— Cincinnati Reds (@Reds) June 19, 2023
Greene has been battling this hip injury for a while, and now was the time to give him some rest. Time will tell if this is an extended absence, but for now, it doesn’t seem to be that way.
Yordan Alvarez – OF Houston Astros
Yordan Alvarez is out on the field doing some stretch and stride with the Astros relievers. First sign of any physical activity he’s done since injuring his oblique.
— Chandler Rome (@Chandler_Rome) June 19, 2023
It’s a good first step for Alvarez, but he has a long way to go before returning. The team has said that they will take things slowly with him. He won’t be back for weeks.
Anthony Rendon – 3B Los Angeles Angels, Gio Urshela – INF Los Angeles Angels
The Angels announce that Anthony Rendon is going on the IL with a wrist contusion.
He was hit by a pitch on Thursday, but there was hope he could avoid the IL since there wasn't a broken bone.
Both Rendon and Urshela are on the IL.
No corresponding move yet.
— Sam Blum (@SamBlum3) June 19, 2023
Rendon is able to return on June 26, though there’s no indication that this will be a minimum stay on the Injured List. His injury history suggests that he will be there for longer. As for Urshela, he has a pelvis fracture and will undoubtedly miss more than ten days.
Miami Marlins – Team Update
#Marlins injury updates:
-Barnes playing catch
-Jazz expected to start a rehab assignment this week
-Cueto Thursday with Triple A Jacksonville; 5 innings/75 pitches
-No updates on Rogers/Segura
-Sixto Sanchez still not throwing— Jordan McPherson (@J_McPherson1126) June 19, 2023
The biggest takeaway here is that Jazz Chisholm Jr. is expected to ramp up things with a rehab assignment later this week. It likely won’t be a short one, but long enough to show that he is healed from his turf toe injury. Keep in mind that he will need surgery for this in the off-season. As for Cueto, he could be a candidate to fill in a spot in the rotation later this week. Finally, no update on Rogers is a bit concerning given we haven’t heard anything in about a week. Segura continues to be sidelined.
Kenta Maeda – SP Minnesota Twins
Nothing official yet from the #MNTwins on when Kenta Maeda will return from the injured list, but Rocco Baldelli said Maeda "likely will pitch for us in the big leagues by the end of the week."
— Aaron Gleeman (@AaronGleeman) June 19, 2023
It is assumed that he will either take over for Louie Varland or turn it into a six-man rotation for the team. Either way, be prepared.
Francisco Alvarez – C New York Mets
Preliminary X-rays on Francisco Alvarez's hand came back negative. He had left tonight's game after eight innings.
— Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) June 20, 2023
After taking a foul ball off of his hand/wrist, Alvarez seems to be okay since the x-rays came back negative. Consider him DTD for now until we find out more.
JD Davis – 3B San Francisco Giants
JD Davis looks like he’s moving ok fielding grounders. If he’s not feeling any discomfort going side to side he will be back in the starting lineup soon.
— Susan Slusser (@susanslusser) June 19, 2023
This is good news, in that he’s getting closer to returning to the field. He came in off the bench for the Giants yet again and has avoided the Injury List thus far.
Dylan Carlson – OF St. Louis Cardinals
Marmol said Carlson getting a day off had to do with the elbow issue he had after getting hit in NY. He was good enough to play yesterday, but they're giving him another day off today with Nootbaar returning.
— Lynn Worthy (@LWorthySports) June 19, 2023
Carlson remains DTD and will likely return within the next day or two.
Hyun Jin Ryu – SP Toronto Blue Jays
Chad Green (Tommy John rehabilitation) is scheduled to throw a live bullpen at the Blue Jays Dunedin complex on Tuesday.
Hyun Jin Ryu (TJ rehab) is scheduled for a two-inning live bullpen on Thursday in Dunedin.
— Arden Zwelling (@ArdenZwelling) June 19, 2023
Ryu has always stated that he wanted August to be his target date for a return. Keep that in mind as we head into July and he has a long way to go.
Alejandro Kirk – C Toronto Blue Jays
ROSTER MOVES:
🔹 C Alejandro Kirk (left hand laceration) placed on 10-day IL
🔹 C Tyler Heineman and RHP Trent Thornton recalled from Triple-A and will be active tonight
🔹 RHP Bowden Francis optioned to Triple-A pic.twitter.com/sxynF6vQqX
— Toronto Blue Jays (@BlueJays) June 19, 2023
Kirk has some bruising on his left hand, and it was enough to warrant a trip to the Injured List. It doesn’t seem like this will last much longer than the ten-day minimum, but time will tell.
