Fantrax MLB Prospects Injury Report

DL Hall – P Baltimore Orioles

DL Hall was sent to the team’s Florida Complex many weeks ago in order to recharge his fastball. He got injured in the offseason with nagging back injuries that he couldn’t get rid of. This took away from his time in the weight room and put more of a focus on rehabilitation of that back instead of progressing forward as an athlete. As such, his fastball velocity dropped and he was less effective. The plan to send him to this complex was to bring the juice back to that pitch. Additionally, the team has been teaching him to throw his secondaries more effectively while ramping up his fastball velocity. The hope is that once he returns to active games, he will be a more complete pitcher. Essentially, this season is about playing catch-up from the time lost in the offseason. Hall is Baltimore’s ninth-ranked prospect, according to MLB.

Zac Veen – OF Colorado Rockies

Veen has been out of action due to a left-hand injury that will cost him the rest of his 2023 season. He had been struggling this season while trying to play through the injury, and having time this offseason to play in games can only help him make up for lost time. He is a big part of the team’s future, and the Rockies were hoping to see him at some point later this season or at worst, next year. Veen is baseball’s 68th-ranked prospect, according to MLB.

Logan O’Hoppe – C Los Angeles Angels

Since resuming baseball activities, O’Hoppe has been able to progress by resuming catching drills, taking dry swings, and hitting off of a tee. His next step would be to face live pitching, but there’s been no indication of that happening anytime soon. He was slated to potentially return about one month from now, but that’s purely speculation at this point. The team will take things slowly with him because he is slated to be a fixture for them for years to come. O’Hoppe is baseball’s 29th-ranked prospect, according to MLB.

Connor Prielipp – P Minnesota Twins

Prielipp has been on the Minor League Injured List since the middle of April, going from the 7-day variety over to the full-season designation. It’s important to note that this is not a full-blown Tommy John Surgery, which means that the internal brace inserted will be an alternative method of healing and support. There is no official timetable in place for the talented pitcher, who has pitched just 6.2 innings thus far within the Twins’ organization. Prilelipp is Minneosta’s third-ranked prospect, according to MLB.

Mason Miller – P Oakland Athletics

The Athletics continue to take things slowly with Miller, who last pitched for them in May. This was his first time throwing from flat ground, and at only twenty pitches, he will need to do this and ramp up even more. After this, he will progress to mound work and then live batters. He has a long way to go before pitching in an A’s game again, but if all goes well, we could see him return late in the season to test things out for next year. Miller is baseball’s 76th-ranked pitcher, according to MLB.

Andrew Painter – P Philadelphia Phillies

Painter just underwent successful surgery for his UCL and had ulnar nerve transposition surgery, meaning that he won’t be pitching for quite a while. The only good news regarding this injury is that he is a twenty-year-old athlete, and he should be ready to pitch when he turns twenty-two. This means that he has an entire career ahead of him and has a major surgery out of the way. Still, it’s a tough one to overcome, putting him out of action for a long time. He likely won’t pitch professionally until the 2025 season. Painter is baseball’s eighth-ranked prospect, according to MLB.

Kyle Harrison – P San Francisco Giants

Harrison is progressing well enough to return and looks to do so shortly. He suffered the injury just before the Futures Game, and his return so soon would be a bit surprising. Still, nothing has yet to be official, so anytime right now would be speculative. The biggest takeaway right now is that his injury is not season-ending and that he is doing better than he was two weeks ago. Harrison is baseball’s eleventh-ranked prospect, according to MLB.

Jack Leiter – P Texas Rangers

It’s important to note that this has nothing to do with Leiter’s health, but rather his mechanics. Prior to this, he surrendered a combined thirteen runs over five innings pitched in two starts, leading the team to alter their stance on him. Leiter is baseball’s 89th-ranked prospect, according to MLB.
