Welcome to the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Wednesday, June 19, 2024. In today’s edition, Aaron Judge got hit by a pitch and the results of his imaging were good. Also, Anthony Rizzo will miss months, Jeimer Candelario has been ailing for a while, and Jordan Westburg was removed from last night’s game. All of that and more in today’s Injury Report from Fantrax.

After getting hit on the hand/wrist area, there was some concern that Judge may have fractured it. He left the game and had some imaging done in order to ensure the damage done was minimal. It turns out everything came back negative and all was intact. While this is great news, there is still a chance that he will miss the next few games if the bruising makes it too difficult to play. Consider him DTD, but this is the best-case scenario.
Anthony Rizzo – 1B New York Yankees (forearm fracture)
Anthony Rizzo was placed on the 10-day I.L. with a right forearm fracture. The first baseman provided an update to @M_Marakovits earlier today. #YANKSonYES pic.twitter.com/XWHuwHvJ1C

Rizzo will miss about eight weeks of the season due to a fracture in his right arm. That will include being shut down from baseball activities for about one month. It’s a big blow to the Yankees despite his struggles at the plate this year. Look for prospect Ben Rice to get a shot to prove himself.
Jeimer Candelario – 3B Cincinnati Reds (tendinitis)
David Bell said Jeimer Candelario has been dealing with tendinitis and was more sore today.
“He’s not in danger of going on the IL or missing any extended time.”
“It’ll go away. It might linger a bit.”
— Charlie Goldsmith (@CharlieG__) June 19, 2024
What’s interesting here is that Candelario suffered from tendinitis on his wrist many years ago while he was with the Tigers. There was another report out there that said he had been suffering through this for quite a while, which could explain his slump at the plate this season. All of that being said, the team doesn’t seem concerned and linked this to any “normal mid-season fatigue”.
Max Scherzer – SP Texas Rangers (back)
Max Scherzer will make his 2024 debut on Saturday starting for the #Rangers

Be prepared.
Jordan Westburg – 3B Baltimore Orioles (hip)
Jordan Westburg is day to day with a bruised hip, Brandon Hyde said.
— Jacob Calvin Meyer (@jcalvinmeyer) June 19, 2024
Westburg collided with Juan Soto during a baserunning kerfuffle and had to leave the game. Luckily it would seem that everything is going to be alright here with some minor maintenance.
Chicago White Sox – Team Update
Chris Getz said Yoán Moncada is on track to return to the Sox around the All-Star break, while Eloy Jiménez could be back with the big league team next week.
— Vinnie Duber (@VinnieDuber) June 18, 2024
Yoan Moncada (abductor strain) was injured almost two months ago and was given a timeline that could have extended through most of the season. This estimated recovery would be on the significantly quick part of the estimation, which would be a good thing. As for Eloy Jimenez (hamstring), he is batting .545 with one home run and five runs batted in through four rehab games, albeit in the Rookie League.
Washington Nationals – Team Update
Josiah Gray will throw 75-80 pitches for Harrisburg tomorrow. Davey Martinez was noncommittal if that could be his last rehab start.
Cade Cavalli will resume his rehab Friday for Wilmington, likely going 3 innings.
— Mark Zuckerman (@MarkZuckerman) June 18, 2024
Josiah Gray (elbow) last pitched on June 14 and threw only 41 pitches. He is expected to double that output in his next and possibly final rehab start, though chances are that his return is slow-played. As for Cade Cavalli (elbow), he will be throwing for the first time in almost three weeks after taking a break from his rehab. It remains to be seen how his body will respond.
Charlie Blackmon – OF Colorado Rockies (hamstring)
#Rockies Charlie Blackmon exited Tuesday's game with right hamstring tightness.
— Patrick Lyons (@PatrickDLyons) June 19, 2024
Blackmon exited Tuesday’s game while running the bases and coming up limping. There has been no word on if and when he would require a trip to the Injured List, but chances are at age 37, he will need more than a day or two to get better.
Brendan Rodgers – 2B Colorado Rockies (hamstring)
#Rockies Brendan Rodgers said he will be going out on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Albuquerque before returning from a left hamstring strain.
— Patrick Lyons (@PatrickDLyons) June 18, 2024
There was some speculation that he would not require a trip to the Injured List, but those reports were wrong. Having not played in a game since June 7, he may not need a lengthy assignment either.
Pete Fairbanks – RP Tampa Bay Rays (thumb)
Pete Fairbanks has a right thumb contusion and X-rays are negative
— Tricia Whitaker (@TriciaWhitaker) June 19, 2024
Fairbanks took a comebacker off of his bare hand and needed to be replaced in last night’s game. The good news is that he is dealing with a bruise on his thumb and nothing more. Consider him DTD, with the possibility that it is a multiple-day absence.
Justin Verlander – SP Houston Astros (neck)
Justin Verlander has been added to the 15-day IL for neck soreness, retro 6/16, per the astros.
Nick Hernandez has been called up in his place.
— Michael Schwab (@michaelschwab13) June 18, 2024
Verlander had his last start bumped and now joins a long list of injured Astros pitchers. He wasn’t responding well to treatment and thus the decision to give him at least fifteen days was made.
