Top 20 Athletics Prospects for Dynasty Leagues

The [REDACTED] Athletics have had quite the disappointing year both off the field and on it with the announcement of their move and everything surrounding it. On the field they finished fourth in their division but did have breakout stars like Brent Rooker, Lawrence Butler, and Mason Miller. They also signed Luis Severino to the largest contract in franchise history. As they move their home ballpark to Sacramento, there could be fantasy baseball implications as well. This article will try to ignore all of that and look at how Athletics prospects look to impact the team in the next few years.

Their farm system is in the midst of creating a very interesting lineup for the Athletics. Their top prospects project to be in the big league lineup sooner rather than later. The A’s go for loud tools, whether that comes in the form of power and speed or elite contact. For dynasty baseball managers, it makes for an interesting mix of talents.

Top 20 Athletics Prospects for Dynasty Leagues

1. 1B Nick Kurtz, Age: 21

Regarded as one of the best hitters in the 2024 draft, Nick Kurtz wound up going fourth overall to the Athletics. He played in both Single-A and Double-A in his debut year, slashing .368/.520/.763 with four home runs in a total of 50 plate appearances before a hamstring injury. Kurtz wound up in the Arizona Fall League. There is thought that he could be with the Athletics sooner than later. With the ability to hit and hit for power, he should be a highly desired name near the top of FYPD.

2. SS Jacob Wilson, Age: 22

After being a first-round pick in 2023, Jacob Wilson debuted for the Athletics in 2024, hitting .250 across just over 100 plate appearances. For fantasy purposes, Wilson can be a tricky player to buy into because his game is built on the ability to make contact at absurdly high rates.  As early as this season, he should be able to provide average help. The starting shortstop job appears to be his to lose at this point, so his playing time makes him more valuable as he continues to develop.

3. RHP Luis Morales, Age: 22

It cost the Athletics $3 million to sign Luis Morales during the 2023 International Free Agency period. His stuff is electric, starting with a fastball that tops out just under triple digits. He has a solid mix of off-speed pitches led by his slider. The arsenal can make him successful. He’ll have a chance to show he can get outs against Double-A hitters at some point in 2025. If he reaches his ceiling, he’ll be a reliable pitcher with solid strikeout rates.

4. OF Denzel Clarke, Age: 24

The Athletics added Denzel Clarke to their 40-man roster this offseason to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft. He’s an exciting player who is a phenomenal fielder with loads of speed. Clarke can have power too when he makes enough contact. His strikeout rates have been near or above 30 percent at every level he’s played at. While not ideal, he’s still been able to steal plenty of bases and provide double-digit home runs. Clarke comes with a lot of risk, but the upside could be equally as high.

5. OF Colby Thomas, Age: 24

Another potential outfielder for the Athletics at some point in 2025 is Colby Thomas. He spent over half the season in Triple-A where he slashed .272/.344/.559 with 17 home runs. On the season he had a total of 31 homers and 15 stolen bases. Thomas’ power is very real and he has the potential to fill up power categories in fantasy baseball if he hits enough. The outfielder struck out at a 30 percent clip with Las Vegas.

6. 3B Tommy White, Age: 21

A standout freshman year with North Carolina State and a transfer to LSU culminated in Tommy White becoming the 40th overall pick in 2024. After adding Kurtz, the Athletics brought more high offensive upside with White. After signing he hit .224 with a pair of home runs and a 17.6 percent strikeout rate. White’s ability to hit and produce power makes him a very interesting fantasy baseball prospect.

7. RHP Jack Perkins, Age: 25

It was a breakout year for Jack Perkins, who had an 11.84 K/9 with a 2.96 ERA in 76 Double-A innings. His fastball can get up to 97 MPH with a really good slider. His loud stuff produced plenty of strikeouts last season, but he will need to walk fewer batters. Perkins likely starts in Triple-A and could wind up pitching for the Athletics at some point in the upcoming season.

8. RHP Mason Barnett, Age: 24

The Athletics received Mason Barnett as part of the return from the Royals in exchange for Lucas Erceg. He pitched at the Double-A level for both teams, amassing a 4.20 ERA with a 10.89 K/9 in 133 innings. Barnett’s mid-90’s fastball and slider both are pitches that can generate whiffs. Much like Perkins, Barnett is likely to start in Triple-A before potentially making his MLB debut before the end of the season.

9. SS Max Muncy, Age: 22

There could soon be a second Max Muncy in the majors. The Athletics selected their Max Muncy 25th overall in 2021. Last season he slashed .277/.374/.525 with eight home runs in Triple-A. Jacob Wilson is likely to hold down the shortstop position, so when Muncy does debut, he may wind up at third base. Muncy may not stand out in any particular category but could provide some production in several categories.

10. LHP Gage Jump, Age: 21

Gage Jump was a popular name in draft circles as a high schooler but opted to go to college. A couple of years later, the Athletics made him the 73rd overall pick in the 2024 draft. Jump generally sits in the low90s but can ramp up several ticks when he reaches back. It’s a very data-backed pitch, as well. He has a pair of breaking balls too. His stuff makes him interesting, but he’s undersized and has command questions. Jump will debut professionally in 2025.

11. OF Henry Bolte, Age: 21

For the second straight season in 2024, Henry Bolte had double-digit home runs and steals. In total, he slashed .267/.368/.466 with 15 home runs and 46 stolen bases last season, making it as high as Double-A. While he walks plenty, his strikeout rate was 34.7 percent. His power and speed potential are massive, but there is plenty of cause for concern considering he’s never put up a strikeout rate below 30 percent at any level.

12. SS Ayden Johnson, Age: 16

The Athletics signed Ayden Johnson for $1.5 million in January. He gets marks for being an advanced hitter who can develop into above-average hit and power tools. Being an offensive-minded prospect makes him a name to monitor for fantasy baseball, though he’s still many years away from potentially helping lineups.

13. SS Joshua Kuroda-Grauer, Age: 22

After being the Athletics third-round pick in 2024, Joshua Kuroda-Grauer played 24 games in Single-A and High-A before the A’s promoted him to Triple-A for four games at the end of the year. He’s a hit-over-power profile in every sense of the word. Kuroda-Grauer makes good contact, but he doesn’t project for much power. The A’s infield is getting a little crowded, so if he moves fast he’ll have to prove worth of one of those spots.

14. C Daniel Susac, Age: 23

The brother of former big league catcher Andrew, Daniel Susac is a former first-round pick of the Athletics. He slashed .257/.300/.434 in Double-A last season with 12 home runs and seven stolen bases. Playing a premium position like catcher will help Susac’s fantasy value, however, the A’s have Shea Langliers penciled in as the starter. Considering he likely starts at Triple-A, that could leave Susac in a backup role.

15. RHP Gunnar Hoglund, Age: 25

Injuries slowed the start of Gunnar Hoglund’s professional career, but in 2024 he more than doubled his career high in innings. He posted a 2.84 ERA in 104.2 innings in Double-A with a K/9 of just over 8.0. Hoglund also made five starts in Triple-A. He fills up the zone enough that he could wind up a starter and if he can start to miss more bats he will become a very interesting fantasy prospect.

16. SS Myles Naylor, Age: 19

The younger brother of the Guardians starters with the same last name, Myles Naylor shows the potential to become a powerful infielder at some point in the future. He hit 11 home runs as a 19-year-old in Single-A last season while walking close to 16 percent of the time. However, with a .192 batting average and 34.7 percent strikeout rate, there is still a long way to go. Naylor will turn in April and may find himself back in Stockton. He may move slowly, but if things click his potential is high.

17. RHP Steven Echavarria, Age: 19

Steven Echavarria was the Athletics third-round pick in 2023 and he has a loud arsenal. His fastball already touches 98 MPH with a pair of very good secondaries. As an 18-year-old he threw 57.2 innings with a 6.55 ERA with a 9.21 K/9 and 5.62 BB/9 in Single-A. His upside makes him a breakout candidate, but he’ll need to bring his walks down in order to do so.

18. RHP J.T. Ginn, Age: 25

Last season J.T. Ginn threw 34 innings at the major league level with a 4.24 ERA. He performed well enough that he should be in the rotation mix during Spring Training. Even if he doesn’t make the team out of camp, he is likely one of the first up when they need a starter. His floor as a solid starter and his proximity makes him a solid prospect. Though he may never be more than a streaming option for fantasy baseball managers.

19. OF Rodney Green, Age: 21

The A’s selected Rodney Green in the fourth round of the 2024 draft and gave him $ 1 million to sign. Then he slashed .289/.368/.464 with three home runs and nine stolen bases after being assigned to Single-A. Green’s power and speed give him an intriguing fantasy ceiling, but he’ll have to prove he can hit enough to reach it.

20. 3B Darrell Hernaiz, Age: 23

There is a chance that Darrell Hernaiz fits into the Athletics infield early in 2025, but the question is if he can stay there. Long term, there is a real chance he winds up a utility man. In his first crack at the majors last season he hit just .192, but hitting .331 in Triple-A should give hope that more average is on the way. Hernaiz will walk some, but average and potentially positional availability are likely to be his main draws for fantasy baseball managers.
