MLB Injury Report

Bryce Harper – 1B Philadelphia Phillies

From the sounds of it, Harper could be returning very soon, if not today. If one were to guess, after a rest day yesterday, he will be asked to come in today and face live pitching to test his wrist and see how it feels. If all goes well, they may either activate him for tonight’s game or tell him that tomorrow will be the plan for a return. Either way, it feels like he will be playing in the majority of the team’s games this week. For context, I have him in my lineups.

Yordan Alvarez – OF Houston Astros

Some potentially good news here, as Yordan Alvarez seems closer to a return. While the estimated return time isn’t set in stone, it’s encouraging nonetheless that the team has a vision for something soon. In addition to this, Alvarez was seen taking batting practice this past weekend, which is a good sign that the hand is or is close to being fully healed. Both he and Chas McCormick will face live pitching this week at the team’s workout facility in Florida, and that will be a big step in the right direction, should it be a success. Still, one can’t help but second-guess the Astros because of their recent blunders in injury prevention and identification.

Jeremy Pena – SS Houston Astros

From the sounds of things, the team is anticipating Pena’s return tomorrow. His status will be one to monitor, but it’s worth noting that he doesn’t have any fractured ribs, as per the team late last week.

Josh Naylor – 1B Arizona Diamondbacks

Naylor did not come off the bench, nor did he appear in yesterday’s game in any capacity. The team plays today, and they start later than any other game. That means a lineup decision for the week may need to be made at a difficult time, considering that fifteen other teams also play on Monday. While it doesn’t seem like this neck issue will lead to a trip to the Injured List, it’s worth monitoring this situation throughout the day to help you make an informed decision about his availability for the week ahead.

Baltimore Orioles – Team Update

A lot to unpack here. First, it would appear that Zach Eflin will miss time following his injury and his latest outing, where he got rocked. One has to wonder if, by reading between the lines here, a trip to the Injured List will help heal his back and his mind. As for Jordan Westburg, he continues to trend in the direction of a return, but it’s worth noting that he was sore this weekend after taking some at-bats. This report was written before he swung a bat, and the latest news is that he doesn’t feel great. There is a chance that he misses the Texas series altogether. Finally, Adley Rutschman continues to slowly get better, but there is some worry that he won’t be ready right after the All-Star Break. While that period is still a ways away, it’s something that fantasy owners should consider when finding his replacement.

Luis Robert – OF Chicago White Sox

It’s not surprising that the White Sox placed Luis Robert on the Injured List, as his hamstring strain made it impossible for him to play. He is a slow healer, and as such, he finds himself on the Injured List for the eighth time in his career. It’s unclear the severity of this situation, so the team will likely send updates out in the coming days. As mentioned in the post, keep an eye on the corresponding move.

Hunter Goodman – C Colorado Rockies

While the Rockies are hopeful that Goodman will avoid the Injured List, it’s worth noting that he has now missed four straight games, and a decision will need to be made on his status for the upcoming week. With all of their games in Colorado, the hope is that he can benefit from this home-field advantage and get back into the lineup soon enough.

Brandon Woodruff – SP Milwaukee Brewers

For this outing, what mattered most was his velocity and his pitch count. Getting himself up to 82 pitches was a great sign of his readiness, and his velocity topped out at 95.8 miles per hour. The concerning part is that the average velocity on his fastballs was 93.0 miles per hour, which, when he comes back to the Brewers, could get him into trouble. Still, he is lining up to face the Marlins next, and his first opponent may not give him problems. All in all, his return will be a feel-good moment.
