MLB Injury Report
Jacob deGrom – SP New York Mets
The Rangers are going to skip Jacob deGrom’s start tomorrow due to shoulder fatigue, per Chris Young
He went back to Texas to see Dr. Kieth Meister and everything checked out good. More of a workload management situation
— kennedi landry (@kennlandry) August 19, 2025
This is a worrisome development from a fantasy perspective, as deGrom may have started feeling the effects of a long season for the first time in years. Since the 2019 season, he had not thrown for more than 92.0 innings in a season, and yet here we are in August of 2025, and he has thrown 140.1 innings of work. While the fatigue doesn’t necessarily mean there’s an underlying injury happening, it does mean that he could start missing starts or pushing them back a day to help spread things out over the last six weeks of the season. This is something to monitor to ensure that it’s nothing more than what’s been advertised.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. – 1B Toronto Blue Jays
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. just has some inflammation in his left hamstring.
Good news for the #BlueJays at this point and John Schneider sounded relieved.
He’s day-to-day and they could potentially use the off day Thursday.
— Keegan Matheson (@KeeganMatheson) August 19, 2025
All things considered, this is good news, as a serious injury seems to have been avoided. He will still need time to let it heal, as hurrying back could cause even more damage to the hamstring. That being said, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him back on Friday.
Austin Riley – 3B Atlanta Braves
Austin Riley felt soreness while working out today. It doesn’t seem like he’s going to return any time soon.
— Gabe Burns (@GabeBurnsAJC) August 19, 2025
This is the third noted setback for Riley during this injury recovery. It feels like they could be pushing him too hard, too soon, or Riley doesn’t have a good feel of how far he can go with his attempted comeback. Hopefully, he hasn’t done further damage to his abdomen and delayed his return significantly.
Baltimore Orioles – Team Update
Mansolino on Orioles injuries:
– Jordan Westburg’s ankle is sore but not severe. They’ll see how it is Thursday. If no improvement then, they’d consider IL.
– Adley Rutschman’s side sore, opposite of earlier oblique strain. Caught it early, precaution
– Jorge Mateo rehab tmrw— Andy Kostka (@afkostka) August 19, 2025
Big day for the Orioles, though not for the best reasons. First, Jordan Westburg is feeling better, but there’s still a chance that he needs extended time on the Injured List. If that’s the case, the hope is that he’d require minimal time away, but he’s shown in the past that he’s not always the quickest to heal. We should know by Thursday, which likely means he’s not playing today. As for Adley Rutschman, it’s been a tough 365 days for him, as he’s been injured and scuffling at the plate. Hopefully, this is a minimal stay away for him, and he won’t require a trip to the Injured List. Samuel Basaalo may get additional playing time here as a result. Finally, Jorge Mateo is beginning his rehab, and upon his return, he should provide depth.
Francisco Alvarez – C New York Mets
Francisco Alvarez needs thumb surgery, per Carlos Mendoza. But the Mets are going to see if he can play through it. "We're hopeful," Mendoza said. However, there's a chance he's done for the year if he can't.
— Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) August 19, 2025
For all of the hype that surrounds Alvarez, the unfortunate part of his profile is the lengthy list of injuries that have clouded his career. His season might be over, though we won’t know if it is until later this month.
Jackson Chourio – OF Milwaukee Brewers
Brewers medical updates:
Jackson Chourio is completing baserunning, hitting and defensive work without issue.
Rehab assignment at Class AAA Nashville to commence on Friday.
— Todd Rosiak (@Todd_Rosiak) August 19, 2025
The good news here is that Chourio has progressed to the point where he’s comfortable hitting, fielding, and running. Hopefully, he can return to the Brewers lineup before the end of the month.
Kenley Jansen – RP Los Angeles Angels
Kenley Jansen said he was bothered by something physical but he didn’t want to say what it was. When I asked if he might miss some time, he said: “Just gonna take it day by day and see where we’re at.”
— Jeff Fletcher (@JeffFletcherOCR) August 20, 2025
It’s unclear as to exactly what the nature of this ailment could be, but at age 37, he’s almost at the point of calling it quits as well. This is something to monitor, to see if time away is warranted.
Willy Adames – SS San Francisco Giants
Willy Adames has been dealing right side soreness the last couple days. He’s out of the lineup tonight.
— Justice delos Santos (@justdelossantos) August 20, 2025
Interesting news here that developed late last night. It’s unclear as to the severity of the issue, but if it’s anything serious, he may miss extended time. Stay tuned.
