It only takes one week for everything to change. Or did anything really change? I’d say the answer is somewhere in between, but overall, it was a relatively quiet week at the tight end position. There was one injury scare, one situation to monitor, and one that will force us to find a replacement. Only one tight end eclipsed the 100-yard mark, with seven gaining at least 61 yards through the air. There were 10 touchdowns at the position, by 10 different tight ends, but some scored by the likes of Jake Tonges, Hunter Long, and Davis Allen. Let’s jump right into our Week 2 Tight End Rankings.

Injury Notes for Week 2
George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers
Things started off quite strongly for George Kittle. He caught all four of his targets for 25 yards and a touchdown in the first quarter, and then that was it. Kittle injured his hamstring, and we’ll now be without the San Francisco tight end for the next month. This leaves a gaping hole for fantasy managers as they now have to head to the waiver wire.
Brock Bowers, Las Vegas Raiders
From a performance standpoint, it’s hard to argue with Brock Bowers catching five passes for 103 yards. There was a period of concern when he left with a knee injury, but Bowers wanted to, and seemingly was able to, return. Instead, the Raiders were careful. While we have to keep an eye on this, I don’t foresee any concerns.
Evan Engram, Denver Broncos
A calf injury forced Evan Engram out of action in the fourth quarter, and his status remains unclear for Week 2. Prior to the injury, Engram caught three passes for 21 yards as the Broncos’ offense struggled as a unit to begin the season. This will be a situation to keep an eye on, but it’s fair to also expect more.
Tight End Notes
David Njoku, Cleveland Browns
Don’t read too much into things, but David Njoku seemed like the second tight end in Week 1. It’s just one week, and there’s no need to overreact, as Njoku will likely return to a larger role in subsequent weeks. He was targeted six times, and that turned into three receptions for 37 yards. However, we do have to take note of and make room for Harold Fannin. The rookie carved out a legitimate role, catching seven of his nine targets for 63 yards. I’d expect this to be an ongoing trend.
Kyle Pitts, Atlanta Falcons
I’m going to hold off on the complete optimism, at least for now, but things looked good for Kyle Pitts and Michael Penix in Week 1. A lot of the production came in the second half, but Pitts appeared to be a large part of the offense while having chemistry with Penix. Most importantly, Pitts came through with seven catches for 59 yards on eight targets.
Juwan Johnson, New Orleans Saints
Spencer Rattler certainly needs help and a safety valve. In Week 1, that appeared to be Juwan Johnson. The tight end was targeted 11 times, and he turned that into eight catches for 76 yards. Johnson has had stretches of success in the past, and if the targets remain, the success should be as well. There’s nothing wrong with chasing the quantity here.
Tyler Warren, Indianapolis Colts
Pretty much everything went right for the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. That extended to Tyler Warren as the rookie had a strong NFL debut. Warren was involved early and often in the offense, and a chemistry was quickly established with Daniel Jones. The rookie was targeted nine times, which resulted in seven receptions for 76 yards.
