Week 8 Fantasy Football Trade Targets

This isn’t a bye week, it’s a buy week! With 6 teams getting a rest week, Week 8 offers managers a prime opportunity to acquire players at a discount. Look around your league and see if there are any teams particularly affected by the shortage and are in need of someone to play this week. If you have a startable asset sitting on your bench, offer it up for one of the players that they can’t use this week.

Don’t expect to outright steal anyone away, but if the manager is desperate enough, surprising deals can get done. For our Week 8 Fantasy Trade Targets, let’s focus on players who can boost your team following the bye-pocalypse.

Week 8 Trade Targets

Marvin Harrison Jr., Arizona Cardinals WR

It’s never easy to acquire an NFL team’s WR1, but Marv is the rare exception as he doesn’t really feel like the team’s #1. Trey McBride is the top target in Arizona, and managers should not expect that to change. Luckily, that means Harrison can be bought at a discount.

He’s coming off of two rough weeks, but there has been a lot of noise surrounding those performances that should be taken into context. First, he was dealing with a concussion. Second, he was going up against good defenses. I could also mention that he has been playing with a backup quarterback in Jacoby Brissett, but that should actually be seen as a positive, and I’ll be rooting for that to continue.

On the bright side, after the bye, he gets a matchup with the Cowboys, who are one of, if not the, worst teams against wide receivers. That will be his last great matchup for a while, but he does get to play the Bengals in Week 17 when most fantasy leagues hold their championship.

He’s shown a few strong performances already this season and appeared to be heating up before the head injury. He should be back to 100% after the added rest and should be a decent WR2/3 for your team moving forward.

He’s undervalued right now and can’t help anyone this week, making him a perfect trade target. Swoop in if you can.

Kyren Williams, Los Angeles Rams RB

Kyren Williams has been the exact same player he’s been for the past two seasons with one notable exception: touchdowns. His yards-per-carry are right in line with his past season averages, and he’s receiving the same general amount of touches.

In 2023, he had 12 rushing touchdowns, and in 2024, he was up to 14. This year, he’s not even on pace for 5. That’s actually a good thing for managers trying to acquire him, though, because it represses his value a bit.

There’s also reason for hope. The Rams are currently throwing way more touchdowns then they were at this point in either of those seasons. Kyren already has 3 receiving touchdowns. This matches his 2023 full-season total and surpasses 2024.

We can expect some regression to the mean, and Kyren getting more rushing touchdowns later this season. If he catches any more TD passes, that’s just icing on the cake.

He’s still a workhorse back on a very high-powered offense, making him an ideal trade target. Puka being out should mean the team leans on Kyren a bit more during his absence.

Go and get him now while he’s on a bye, and he will be an every-week lock moving forward.

David Montgomery, Detroit Lions RB

Nobody’s been ping-ponging more this year than Monty. He’s had a game this year with 29 points, another with just 1 point, and pretty much everything in between.

He represents a bit of a unicorn at the RB position, as he has every week potential value, but also the upside of a handcuff. In fact, he probably has the highest upside of any handcuff in the league.

If Gibbs were to go out due to injury, Montgomery would be a league winner. The team will still use a backfield split with Craig Reynolds, but he won’t receive as much work as Monty does now. Even if things continue as they are, Montgomery has weekly flex appeal.

Gibbs is coming off one of the best games of his career, which is going to suppress Montgomery’s value. If the manager who has him is burnt after the past two weeks, they’re probably willing to move him while he’s on bye.

Montgomery is the best lottery ticket in Fantasy.

Brock Bowers, Las Vegas Raiders TE

Any manager who drafted Bowers is probably struggling right now. The combination of high draft capital and lack of production is hard to overcome. Odds are, that makes Week 8 a must-win for them.

Despite this, his name value alone is going to fetch a pretty penny. Hopefully, the uncertainty surrounding his knee injury should negate some of that to an extent.

Acquiring him a week or two ago may have been a bit easier, as there were seemingly more TEs with value at that point. Now, with Waller going down, Kittle putting up a zero game, and a few other players who showed promise early on and have since fizzled, trade capital is hard to come by.

On the flip side, that means having one of the studs should provide more of a positional advantage than ever. If he can return to at least 75% of last year’s form, he’s still going to be better than most others at the position.

If you have a decent TE and can package them with another valuable player to go out and acquire Bowers, that would be a bet I would be willing to make.
