Week 8 NFL Survivor Picks

Wow, well that was historic. Those who went with the Denver Broncos last week are certainly exhaling as they are celebrating what was seemingly an impossible victory. The Green Bay Packers made you sweat, but the Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots took care of business with ease. That left us with a perfect week, but now it’s time to run it back. Only this time, there are six teams on bye. Let’s jump right into our Week 8 NFL Survivor Picks.

Week 8 NFL Survivor Picks

Atlanta Falcons vs. Miami Dolphins – Falcons -7.5

At this point, it’s surprising that Mike McDaniel still has a job as the Miami Dolphins’ head coach. The Dolphins are a complete disaster, and that stops at the top with the coach and also under center.

Tua Tagovailoa is calling out his teammates while also struggling through the first seven weeks of the season. He has just 1,313 passing yards and 11 touchdowns while throwing a staggering 10 interceptions. The Dolphins rank 25th in points scored (20) and 29th with 29.3 points allowed per game. That’s simply not a recipe for success.

In fairness here, the Atlanta Falcons have reversed stats ranking 28th in points scored (18.3) and 8th in points allowed (20). It appears that Michael Penix will be healthy enough to take the field, and he has plenty of weapons at his disposal. None is bigger than Bijan Robinson, and that should be the difference tonight.

Cincinnati Bengals vs. New York Jets – Bengals -6.5

Will the New York Jets win even one game this season? At this point, it’s not looking too favorable. That leaves us with the thought of targeting the Jets each week, but at some point, will they get lucky?

If the Jets do emerge victorious, it will be on the backs of their defense. But how much of a strength is that defense, as New York is ranked 14th in total yards (335.4) and 26th in points (26.1) allowed per game. In the last two weeks, though, the Jets have held each of their opponents to just 13 points.

Even if that’s the case, can the Jets score 14 points? On the season, New York is averaging 18.4 points per game, and there are major questions with their offense. Justin Fields was benched following his increasingly apparent struggles, but it remains to be seen if Tyrod Taylor will be healthy enough to take the field. And will he even have Garrett Wilson to throw the ball to?

After a short week, Joe Flacco had 10 days after last Thursday’s victory to truly learn the Cincinnati Bengals’ playbook. It also helps that he has Ja’Marr Chase to throw the ball to. And with Sauce Gardner dealing with a concussion, can anyone stop Chase?

The Jets aren’t in a position to take advantage of Cincinnati’s defensive struggles, and it’s tough to trust them right now.

Indianapolis Colts vs. Tennessee Titans – Colts -14.5

The coaching change for the Tennessee Titans didn’t work. They suffered a big (31-13) loss at home last week against the New England Patriots. As they face a strong defense, the Colts are eighth with 20 points allowed per game; things aren’t going to get better for Cam Ward.

Things are progressing slowly for Ward, and he has just four touchdown passes on the season, along with five interceptions. He doesn’t have much in the way of weapons to work with, and that’s very clear with the 13.7 points the Titans are scoring per game. It shouldn’t be a surprise, but it ranks dead last in the NFL.

That’s a far cry from the Colts, who are scoring 33.1 points per game. Things are going quite well for Daniel Jones and Jonathan Taylor, and there’s no reason for that not to continue as the Colts look to go to 5-0 at home.

New England Patriots vs. Cleveland Browns – Patriots -6.5

With an over/under of just 40.5 points, there’s a small margin for victory here. But with the Cleveland Browns scoring just 16.1 points per game, I’m not sure that it really matters.

The Browns are starting rookie Dillon Gabriel at quarterback, and the statuses of both David Njoku and Jerry Jeudy are in doubt. That leaves the rookie quarterback without much in the way of offensive weapons for a team that’s already been struggling on offense.

On the other hand, things are humming along for the New England Patriots on a four-game winning streak. The Browns are winless on the road, and Drake Maye is finding his groove. New England is ranked eighth with 25.9 points per game as Maye is up to 1,744 passing yards with 12 touchdowns and two interceptions.

The Patriots are also being supported by a strong defense. They are allowing the third fewest rushing yards (77.1) per game, and that takes away what’s currently the Browns’ biggest strength in Quinshon Judkins.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Washington Commanders – Chiefs -12.5

At this point, it’s very possible that you no longer have the Kansas City Chiefs left. However, we can’t ignore their worth this week. The Chiefs are substantial home favorites, and in primetime, that’s their wheelhouse. The fact that the Washington Commanders are without Jayden Daniels at quarterback and have substantial injury concerns at wide receiver only heightens our interest in the Chiefs.
