We’re 139 days away from Opening Day, and the countdown rolls on with another installment of my 2026 Dynasty Baseball Prospects: Daily Write-Up series. Coming in at #146 is Brandon Sproat, a right-hander in the New York Mets organization whose stuff has never been in question, only the command. After showing real progress in harnessing his upper-90s fastball and refining his slider-changeup combo, Sproat looks more like a future rotation fixture than a live-armed project.

Daily Dynasty Baseball Write-Up Series #146 Brandon Sproat
His year was built on contact management and just enough swing-and-miss to keep hitters off balance. Across 121 innings between Double-A and Triple-A, he posted a 4.24 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 113 strikeouts (8.4 K/9) against a 3.9 BB/9. The bat-missing showed up in stretches rather than consistently, but the total picture worked thanks to a .217 opponent average and a fastball that played off life and angle rather than pure velocity.
Where Sproat separated himself was in the batted-ball game. A 53.2% ground-ball rate paired with a 0.67 HR/9 showed how he neutralized Triple-A’s livelier ball, and his underlying metrics backed it up. A 4.18 FIP and 4.53 xFIP both came in better than league baselines, and the modest gap from ERA to estimators suggested he wasn’t surviving on luck. The 2.0 K/BB ratio remained the one factor holding him in “mid-rotation” territory, but it also represented a clear development path. A bit more precision in the zone or increased reliance on his slider and changeup earlier in counts could lift his whiff rates without sacrificing the grounders that make his profile tick.

Sproat also earned a brief big-league look, tossing 20.2 innings for the Mets with a 4.79 ERA and 3.90 FIP, a line that mirrored his Triple-A indicators. It wasn’t dominance, but it was proof he could execute the same formula against major league hitters, a strong early return for a pitcher still refining the edges of an already balanced arsenal.
Fantasy Baseball Outlook
Sproat’s game maps cleanly to fantasy formats that reward stability. In Roto, he projects as a ratios helper more than a strikeout anchor, think SP4 with room to nudge into SP3 if the walks come down a half-tick. The ground-ball rate and home-run suppression should travel, giving him a higher floor than the typical prospect arm. In Points, the walk rate is the watch item, but the workload and efficiency play well, especially if he’s turning lineups over twice with soft contact. Dynasty managers should value him as a near-term contributor with mid-rotation upside and a relatively safe path to usable innings; he’s the kind of stash who can help this year without cratering your ratios while you wait for the command to take the final step.
